Nintendo’s First Smartphone Title Is Called “Miitomo”

With the news out-of-the-way that the first smartphone title from DeNA and Nintendo has been delayed until next year, we now know what the game is. It’s titled Miitomo and is free to play with microtransactions. The company’s other smartphone games will be pay-to-download. You can read more about the game, below.

The new smartphone game will be “Miitomo”. It will be free to play, with attractive add-ons that people can pay for, Mr. Kimishima says. Other smartphone games will be pay-to-download, he says.

Looks like Miis go ahead and communicate with other Miis without your knowledge. This will help people who are hesitant to talk about themselves to communicate with others, and reveal a side of your friends you never knew, Mr. Kimishima says.

In the new “Miitomo” game, users will design their own avatars, or “Miis,” to communicate with other users. Executive Shinya Takahashi says that Nintendo will find ways to encourage people who are hesitant to talk to share things about themselves.

Miitomo is the first of five smartphone apps that Nintendo plans to release by March 2017.

  1. Nintendo is taking a more cautious approach rather than going in full-throttle into this mobile venture I see. They’re sticking their toe in the water rather than their whole entire leg. It’s a free-to-play game so I really don’t know why people are so upset. The games will get better

    1. Microtransactions and this being their first “mobile game” which is not? And you still haven’t figured it out why more people than ever are getting as disappointed as E3.

      1. That’s exactly what I’ve been telling these fanboy morons the whole time. You think they’ll ever gonna wake up and realize they’re bullahit?

      1. This confuses the hell out of me. Nintendo castrates any an all means of social interaction, then they create an app that tells people things about you that yiu didnt or wouldn’t have intentionally shared yourself?
We’ll have to see how they implement this, because as-is, it goes against everything they’ve done by stripping us of Letterbox / Swapnote, making miiverse nearly unusable, and this…is some kind of ass-backwards social thing?

We should be able to assume, this will only work with the heaviest of limitations, maybe a friendslist at best…IDK.

The excuse of it being their first Mobile game is bullshit sir. What was the fucking point of acquiring a Mobile Game development company. If they had released a port of SMB1,2&3 – that would have probably been recieved better.

IDK. I want to see where this goes, but I’m glad the investors are smart enough to see that Nintendo is even able to fuck up something as established as Mobile Gaming. Jeezusss

      1. That’s not a fair statement because there are hundreds to thousands of devs who add games to the App Store, while Nintendo has significantly less. Not to mention Nintendo’s games are much more expensive and “full” than mobile games.

        Or at least, until Miitomo.

      2. Actually, it is and today’s pissy mobile announcement just proved that. And I’m talking about hardcore games. Nintendo has none of that and stupidly rejects it. So fuck them.

      1. I’m one of the most cynical Nintendo fans on this site. Especially when Federation Force is involved, so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Besided, it’s not defending it if you’re making shit up. Sakamoto isn’t involved with this project.

      2. >>>Don’t bother, here are Stranga facts:

1.Says he is done with Nintendo yet keeps coming back to complain and whine, which in the end is hoping for the empire to give him something he likes but in the end will still cry.

2.Blinded with rage and possibly drugs as he hallucinates comments that aren’t there. Several times he accused me of defending Federation Force, AC Festival and the Mobile Infantry when I’ve never done that and told him several times already and yet he still goes on about it.

3.He has been corrupted by the Applings as he constantly brings them up and defends them at all costs.

    1. Exactly. What the hell is wrong with some of these people? Nintendo said it themselves that they are not that many resources into the mobile market as they are with their dedicated gaming devices and besides……THIS IS A FREAKING FREE-TO-PLAY GAME. I mean this isn’t the only mobile game they’re making. Like I said there will be more and they will be better

      1. 1. It’s not a game but also not Mii Creator which would’ve been a lot better and 2. MICROTRANSACTIONS! Just like I said before, Nintendo has turned to the dark side of gaming, no thanks to Darth Vader.

      2. Swapnote / Letterbox was Free. After making friends on nearly every continent, Nintendo shut it down without warning due to some fucktard missusing it and some parent not setting parental settings.

This appears to be social-related, which I’ve learned, turns out to be fun, then stripped down to a disappointment…every…time.

I’d rather pay for fun entertainment than get disappointment for free.

Maybe with the new President, Nintendo will take a step forward in the social-space, I’m just not holding my breath.

      3. Just imagine how different our world would be right now if Nintendo had invented the cell phone with a monopoly on them with the mindset they have today & a few sickos misused cell phones and Nintendo, being retards & overreacting idiots, stopped making cell phones & put a stop to future manufacturing of cell phones. O.O

  2. I expect some very interesting memes from this when it comes out and I really want to see how this “social thing” will be used, I’ve heard of a game that consist entirely in communication and its also FTP, so I really want to see where does this thing goes.

    1. I would say I’m more nervous than upset.
I’m just worried we’ll finally get a functional, social/ communication app, only to have it taken away or patched into uselessness…. Not out of blind angst, but from data and history.
Science is testable, repeatable and measurable… So to speculate based on every social attempt Nintendo has made is a legit concern.

  3. They get everyone excited, say they’re gonna release a game by the end of the year and then delay it and show something involving Miis…. I don’t think Nintendo quite realizes how stupid this is. And then there’s the fact that the other titles (the ones people will probably want) will be paid titles. My experience with paid titles is they’re generally just as worthless as free ones. So there’s likely going to be paid content in those too. I don’t know why they thought showing a Mii game was the best idea but it clearly isn’t, as can be shown by the reaction from fans and stock holders. This isn’t so much a game as a social platform. As with most social networks it’ll come and go. I don’t see this having too much attention.

      1. Oh there was at least one fool that said Nintendo won’t do them because they still got that childish mindset that Nintendo isn’t like every other business that cares about money and only does video games because they “love” their job.

  5. basically it’s Sims with miis instead. But what worry me is the following statement:
“Looks like Miis go ahead and communicate with other Miis without your knowledge. This will help people who are hesitant to talk about themselves to communicate with others, and reveal a side of your friends you never knew, Mr. Kimishima says.”

Well I can see a lot of misusse with that apps:
    – I am a pervert and I wanna be your friend… a very good friend.
    – I know where you live and have been watching you for a longtime.
    – Hum hey little johnny how old are you? I am 6 .. great I am 7 (+60) years old… let’s be friend.
    – I am the bully champion and you are my next taregt… see you at school loser.

Looks like a fantastic apps…… no wonder why nintendo share lost 7.5%

    1. And as soon as the first report of misuse comes in, the app will be killed or stripped down so much it won’t be fun at all.
It’s happened over and over and it’s going to happen again. :/

      1. Expect a bunch of fucking idiots to defend/celebrate Nintendo’s stupidity, too! It’s happened over & over & it’s definitely going to happen again! >:/

  6. OK yes, as someone who has been sticking with Nintendo for about 10 years, I’ll admit, I also think this is an AWFUL app to release. I mean seriously, have they not learned anything from Nintendo Letter Box?
