      1. Agreed. Prime 2 is my least favorite of the trilogy, maybe even my least favorite Metroid in general.

Mario Party 6? lol To each their own, but man I hated every entry after 5. And even that wasn’t great.

I’m surprised at the absence of Luigis Mansion. Such a fun game. But hey, it is just their opinions.

      2. Dude, at least it’s not short or boring. Plus with the dark world, extends gameplay mechanics and makes the exploration kinda scary at times. Backtracking? Metroid has always been about backtracking you fool. Returning back to old area to discover new paths when acquiring new suits/weapons. And best of all, fucking Quadraxis is one of my favorite bosses in the Metroid universe. Sucks that there’s no Dark Ridley which would’ve made the fanbase go nuts about. :)

            1. Hating is kind of his thing. Surprised that he doesn’t hate me after all the arguments we had earlier this year.

        1. He might have meant, like in many of them, especially the Prime series, as you unlocked suit upgrades, you would have to backtrack to earlier leverls to reach places or open doors previously locked!

          1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Sounds like he was hating on the backtracking if you ask me. Like I said, if he doesn’t like the backtracking in Echoes, I have to question if he’s actually played many Metroid games since they all involve backtracking. Echoes is the norm, not the exception.

    1. Wow, I didn’t even notice Melee was missing lol.

I used to be a Melee fanboy, but I guess I just grew out of that fanboy crap.

Plus I find Smash4 to be much more fun and balanced.

    1. Wind Waker is by far my most favorite game on the Gamecube too, it’s such a fantastic game. WWHD made a fantastic game even better.

  1. I’ll never understand the Double Dash love. I loved it as a kid, but having played it recently.. it has to be the worst controlling MK game I can think of. And there are only a couple tracks I like in it. I never played Super Circuit though. And I’m sure this was a more nostalgia-centric list.

Good list overall. God, I still have my original copy of some of those games lol… really wish Viewtiful Joe would get a new game. Probably will never happen though.

    1. Omg yessss.. I still have the game. That was such an amazingggg game. Fuck. See, these are the days I miss. Gamecube, N64…those systems had legendary games for all ages. Kids and adults alike.

  2. Love it, it’s not often I hear about a Top Games for the Gamecube list. Gamecube is definitely my most favorite console of all time.
Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Sunshine, Double Dash, Air Ride, Rogue Squadron 2, F-Zero GX, Melee, Luigi’s Mansion, DK Jungle Beat, Pokemon Coliseum, XD, Sonic Adventure 2, Wario World, and Starfox Assault and Adventures are my favorites.

Never got the Prime games unfortunately. I got to play them on the Trilogy disc. Love those games. I do regret not picking up Twin Snakes though when I saw it on sale back when the Gamecube was still a thing.

I also loved the controller, easily my most favorite. It just feels right in my hands.

    Definitely a good list.

  3. Well as always I have conducted my own top 20 (I know Kotaku only listed 17 but still) list of MY favorite Gamecube games

    20. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
    19. Killer 7
    18. Luigi’s Mansion
    17. Wave Race: Blue Storm
    16. Skies Of Arcadia
    15. Super Monkey Ball 2
    14. Viewtiful Joe
    13. Pikmin 1 & 2
    12. Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance
    11. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
    10. Resident Evil Remake
    9. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
    8. F-Zero GX
    7. Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II
    6. Mario Kart: Double Dash
    5. Super Smash Bros. Melee
    4. Metroid Prime
    3. Super Mario Sunshine
    2. Resident Evil 4
    1. Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker

    So….what do you guys think?

    1. Great list, there’s lots of games I’ve played with lots I haven’t. Definitely agree on WW. Easily my most favorite GCN game.

    2. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>Metroid Prime 2 Echoes is of course my favourite game and my second one is the same as yours, the rest is not decided yet>>>

    1. Eternal Darkness! Shit. So many good memories of that system. And you guys are remembering so many of the greats.

  4. No Twilight Princess either, strangely enough. And the more I dig the GC’s catalog, the more I’m convinced that while GC had fewer games than PS2, the games it had were more influential (or at least they good ones were). I can think of some exceptionally out-there games in the PS2 catalog such as Metal Gear Solid 3, Okami or Shadow of the Colossus, but not as many games that have that unique characteristic like Eternal Darkness and the like.

My top 10 list would be something like:

    1- Metroid Prime
    2- F-Zero GX
    3- Resident Evil 4
    4- Eternal Darkness
    5- Resident Evil: Remake
6- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
7- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
8- Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
    9- Pikmin
    10- Ikaruga

  5. The list is bit naff there is no super smash bros melee, Many people rely on quantity not quality gamecube had games like f-zero, super mario sunshine, metroid prime 2 these games are one of the finest games a person can play, each game produced oozes higher standards.

  6. Hey Listen!
Notice how nobody is fighting on this post?
That’s because there was a day Nintendo catered to everyone.

  7. Back when Super Monkey Ball used to be good. It all went downhill soon as the Banana Blitz came into the picture with lackluster boss fights, poor level design, and more unnessesary characters.

  8. No Pikmin 2? No RE0? No Pikmin 2 was better than Pikmin 1. Pikmin 2 is the best of all Pikmin tittles. It is alsom my favorite franchise IP by Nintendo. Im glad Pikmin 4 is in the works.

    1. I have to agree with you, tobiyyah. Pikmin 2 is my favorite as well. It was bigger than the other two Pikmin games. There was SO much more to do. And nothing compares to those treasures. I loved how so many was real life products. Pikmin 3’s fruit collecting was sub-par and meh.

  9. Don’t report on Kotaku! They don’t make news, they make clickbait bullshit, and everyone seems to be falling for their obvious trap of not including games like Melee and Fire Emblem and Pikmin 2 that are widely considered to be complete classics. Lists like these thrive off being just controversial enough to get people to comment, and thus ad money $$$.

  10. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Where the fuck is Eternal Darkness, Super Smash Bros Melee, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, & Pikmin 2!? I know this is their opinion but good lord!
