Nintendo Appears To Have Censored Lin Outfits in Xenoblade X English Version

https://twitter.com/_teikage/status/660050698080514052

It would appear as though Nintendo has censored and changed some of the outfits for Xenoblade Chronicles X star, Lin Lee. We already know that they have changed her age from 13 in the Japanese version to 15 in the United States version. Now it seems as though they have toned down some of her more revealing outfits which shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise.

    1. I was going to say “let’s see how much time passes until someone who completely misses the point of the complains says something stupid”, but you posted this first. Oh, well.

      1. No, people can see the problem of the complaints, but that doesn’t mean that people will blow it out of proportions to the point that the complaint itself is dumber than the problem (what kind of 13 year old would be wearing THAT in an alien planet? you really think there is no problem whatsoever with that?)

        1. “that doesn’t mean that people will blow it out of proportions to the point that the complaint itself is dumber than the problem”
This is how I know you don’t see the problem.

People aren’t ok with censorship in any other kind of medium. Not in music, movies or books (especially not in books). Why is it that when it comes to videogames there’s people who are ok with this kind of thing? Besides, why are you intimidated by the exposed body of a 13 year old? Don’t you go to the beach? The way many countries (the USA in particular) react to anything remotely sexual is amazing. Gotta keep that Puritan mentality alive.

What kind of alien planet has a habitable atmosphere in which both humans and a myriad of other extra-terrestrial species can breathe? What kind of alien races build giant mechs just for the sake of it? It’s fiction, and the fact that she can be dressed like that is not the weirdest part of the setting, you’re just projecting your own mentality and bias to it.

The way I see it, it’s either be opposed to every case or not caring at all with these things. You can’t have any kind of middle ground.

          1. Look, censorship does suck, ok? I don’t like the censorship of DBZ: Kai neither the censorship of One Piece, I don’t like the censorship of No More Heroes, but there is ALWAYS a limit of how far you can go, because sometimes if you go too far, you can make an overkill, if you don’t believe, did you know that Samurai Jack was censored from the beggining? nobody seems to be complaining about that, huh?

Just because kids can go around in skimpy clothes it doesn’t mean its right, its not about puritan thoughts (good one calling me something without even knowing who I am or where I come from, BTW, I live in Venezuela, and down here we do and say stuff that up there in the USA would be trigger every SJW beyond the levels of Anita Sarkeesian, so stop giving tags to people you don’t know, it doesn’t makes you right or smart, it makes you a douche) its about ethics and morals, because you very well know that those clothes weren’t made for the game or anything substantial, it was just to give people reasons to masturbate and that is the main focus of their problem (or did you just forgot that the age of consent in Japan is 14? she is 13, or you still think there is no problem with that?).

            1. “but there is ALWAYS a limit of how far you can go”
I disagree with this premise. People should write, film, compose, scultp and yes, create videogames about whatever the fuck they will. This kind of mentality is why the more ‘mainstream’ expressions of those mediums are so tame and uninteresting.

Why sholdn’t Burroughts write about kids having sex while snapping each other’s necks?
Why souldn’t François Ozon make a movie about a teenager prostitute?
Should we start putting clothes above Greek statues just because many of them are naked?

You can argue that in some of these examples nudity and sexuality happen to be the main topics of the work, and that would be a fair point. However, to me that’s the only reason why this is just an ‘oh, well’ case of censorship and not a ‘raise your pitchforks’ one, like it was with, say, Hotline Miami.

“did you know that Samurai Jack was censored from the beggining?”
No, but why do you assume I’m ok with it? Just because Tartakovsky delivered?

“Just because kids can go around in skimpy clothes it doesn’t mean its right”
Why do you think everything has to confort to political correctness? Sometimes the point IS that it’s not ok, or it’s supposed to make you uncomfortable. Not saying it’s the case of this game, but when a game with such message is created and gets censored left and right, remember this kind of things are what allow it.

“good one calling me something without even knowing who I am”
I never called you anything. I just said you have a puritan mentality, which you totally have.

              “BTW, I live in Venezuela”
A Venezuelan defending censorship. Talk about Stockholm syndrome.

” its about ethics and morals”
The ethical thing is to give people the freedom to create whatever they want.

              1. Sorry, this is gonna be a long one. In many cases I would probably agree with you. I don’t like censorship for one main reason: it impedes the author’s creative vision. It’s important for people to have the freedom to follow their artistic vision. But I don’t believe that people should be publishing absolutely anything without reservation. If anything and everything is free game we run the risk of desensitizing ourselves to certain things.

Take movies for example. In the movie “Gone with the Wind” the word “damn” is used once. Previously that word was censored and wasn’t used in movies. It was considered wrong, but shortly before the film came out, the ruling was changed and it was allowed. Nowadays when we hear that word or any vulgar word really, we think nothing of it. We’ve become desensitized to it.

Imagine if people start publishing whatever they want. If it starts becoming commonplace to see kids having sex and killing each other and selling themselves for money, it’s only a matter of time before we start thinking “Well that’s just the way it is.”

I’m not saying that an creator’s work should be censored. I just think that people should act responsibly and consider what they’re doing when they create something.

                1. “If anything and everything is free game we run the risk of desensitizing ourselves to certain things.”
That is a fair point, yes. But from my point of view, applied to this case, the limit would be to have a real minor running around with that kind of clothing. This character is underage in age only (as it often happens with anime-like designs in general, everyone looks older than they really are), so the easy soulution would be to change her age, as they’ve done countless times in the past.

                  “It was considered wrong”
By completely arbitrary reasons. Besides that, laguage is not the best example for this discussion because it’s very mutable and words then don’t mean the same as words now, they aren’t applied in the same society, etc. It’s not so much that we’ve become desensitized by the use of ‘damn’ more than we’ve evolved as a society to the point in which the use of something as silly as a word is not considered to be ‘wrong’ (at least with the cases in which the word isn’t linked to a lack of formal education).

“If it starts becoming commonplace to see kids having sex and killing each other and selling themselves for money, it’s only a matter of time before we start thinking “Well that’s just the way it is.””
I get what you say, but that’s a problem only people who aren’t able to distinguish between reality and fiction have. Of course, if EVERY representation of kids was like that, then it would be a problem, but acting like if every single case in which this happens is a threat to society is alarmist to say the least. Since it’s much more common, I’d be more comfortable with this concrete case of censorship if people were justifying it from a ‘representation of women’ perspective more than a ‘protect the children’ perspective, although not by much.

“I just think that people should act responsibly and consider what they’re doing when they create something”
I agree, obviously. Context is important too. Hatred, for example, was just mindless violence just because, without any kind of message (positive or negative) about the reality of the game. I would consider it a ‘bad case’ of creation, but I probably wouldn’t be ok with any kind of official censorship. I am of the opinion that this kind of thing should fall in the hands of society as a whole (denouncing the game either by calling it out or by not buying it in the first place). This only applies to major censorship and not so much to small things like this, though.

                  1. I could see your point about this only being a game and not reality but Hentai isn’t real either. It still has the same effect as regular pornography. And I agree, all they need to do is change her age to 18 and this wouldn’t be a problem.

“It’s not so much that we’ve become desensitized…”
The word has the same meaning it had before even if we’ve forgotten it. When you say “Damn you.” you’re saying that you want that person to go to Hell, which is in essence saying that you want that person to suffer for all eternity. It’s more than just “a silly word”. It’s not that we’ve evolved as a society, we just don’t pay closer attention to what our words really mean. People back then were more careful about what they were actually saying.

“if EVERY representation of kids was like that, then it would be a problem” Obviously it only becomes a problem when a majority of representations of kids become like that, but how do you know when that is? Sure you might look the other way when kids are being represented that way once or twice, but unless you pay extreme close attention, when do you know that things have gone too far? I also feel that children are in much greater need of protection than women are of being represented properly. Kids aren’t typically able to independently protect themselves.

                    1. “It still has the same effect as regular pornography”
Ok, then let me draw the line further: it’d be ok for me to apply this kind of censorship in the cases in which the character is obviously recognized as a minor. That would cover every worrisome base and leave the way open for the ‘legal loophole’ of increasing the age of the characters to the age of consent (as long as it isn’t something completely stupid as Nowi).

“The word has the same meaning it had before even if we’ve forgotten it. ”
Actually, no, it doesn’t have the same meaning. You picked the worst posible example.
Yes, the meaning you mention is still used today, but if we’ve become desensitized to the word it’s because of its other meaning (water damns) which became much more commonplace as society evolved. And if people don’t think of the meaning you mentioned, that means that meaning has been lost and the fact that it still appears on a dictionary just means it’s a relic of the past. As I said, languages are mutable things that don’t belong to any kind of linguistic entity but to its speakers. If every English speaker decided to call cats ‘tables’, they would be tables.
But anyway, this is me arguing semotics and semantics, and I don’t want to get off-topic.

“when do you know that things have gone too far?”
When there’s a widespread societal change. I get what you mean, that the change can be so slow that maybe we won’t realize it, but to that I say: so what? Bisexuality and pedophilia were (more or less) the norm in ancient Greece. Moral is completely relative and evolves with time, so none can really judge the society of tomorrow (or the past, for that matter) with the morality of today. Given the protection children already get, I don’t think a change like that can happen in the span of a few decades.

                    2. I’m unable to further reply to your comment Marce so I have to reply to my own.

Like I said, it would be perfectly fine if they just changed the character’s age to 18.

                      “Water damns”
That word is dam, not damn. They are too completely different words with two completely different definitions. The word damn has always been used as a form of curse.

“none can really judge the society of tomorrow (or the past, for that matter) with the morality of today.”
The point isn’t really to judge. The point is to consider how our actions will shape the future. If we don’t want our society to turn out one way, we do what we can today to prevent it from doing so. Yes, we will be unable to control what actually happens; that is for future generations to decide. But we should still do what we think is in society’s best interest. We shouldn’t just live our lives without any concern for what happens after we’re gone. We should help guide the next generation the best we can. Once we start to see widespread societal change, it’s too late.

              2. Look, your reasons here are nice (stopping censorship), but you’re not realising that:

1.- You’re defending a skimpy clothe on a 13 year old (which is wrong unless she is a prostitute or you actually want to have wet dreams with her, for which I would say, are you out of your mind?).

2.- You do know that when the message of the game is saying that stuff like this is wrong it doesn’t get censored, right? like No More Heroes 2 or Spec Ops: The Line, it also doesn’t get censored when is integral to the character or the gameplay (Like Bayonetta 2 or Mortal Kombat), and if you still want to defend this them explain to me, HOW IS THIS CLOTHE INTEGRAL TO THE GAME!? it isn’t, it was just made for sex appeal to an audience that doesn’t exist outside of Japan (and before you even decide to talk about it, remember that this conversation can only go so far).

3.- “A Venezuelan defending censorship. Talk about Stockholm syndrome” Boy you really don’t know a thing about Venezuela, don’t you?, we do what we do because we can recognize the line of where is right to talk/say/do about it and when it isn’t, if you show this to Venezuelans, some of them would jokingly say that “they would like to bang her” or something like that, but most of us would be scandalized about this because we have ethics and morality, there is a difference between beign a puritanian person and understand when something is going too far (something that you clearly doesn’t). And don’t talk about my people unless you really study it (and I mean its history and culture), because them you start to say stuff that makes you look more like a jerk.

You talk about letting people do whatever they want, but you don’t seem to understand that there is a line between expressing an idea (like No More Heroes or Spec: Ops, which makes it a deeper game) and doing shock just for the sake of shock and expecting to still make money (like Hatred, which is why it flopped so hard, it made all that marketing to try to boost its own sales and they forgot to make the game actually good, now, do I think Hatred should have been censored or stopped like the other people? no, even if it was a sadistical game, it would have annoyed me if it got stopped, but it didn’t and in the end it was just what I expected, a bad game that tried to make a big fuss by trying to be “edgy”), but this clothes, they’re just a minor change, irrelevant, they don’t talk about an expression or an idea, they’re not integral to the game or the character, why defend something so irrelevant?. You really get triggered very easily or you don’t actually care for this and you just want a reason to fight.

                1. “You’re defending a skimpy clothe on a 13 year old”
No, I’m defending keeping the skimpy clothe (it’s more like a swimsuit to me, but whatever) on a 18 year old. It’s the easiest solution since it doesn’t cause any outrage.

“like No More Heroes 2 or Spec Ops: The Line”
Considering No More Heroes 1 was censored, you don’t really have much of a leg to stand on.

“HOW IS THIS CLOTHE INTEGRAL TO THE GAME”
I never said it was, and you’re still missing the point. Re-read my previous post (or the rest of my posts ITT for that matter).

“Boy you really don’t know a thing about Venezuela, don’t you?”
                  Dude, get some history lessons.

“You really get triggered very easily or you don’t actually care for this and you just want a reason to fight.”
I’m just having a conversation, you’re the one getting mad over my opinion.

                  1. 1.- No, it isn’t, just look at that girl and tell me: can she look like a 18 year old? no, thats impossible, 15 is more plausible (and even still, it wasn’t that much censored, you do realise that, don’t you?).

2.- No More Heroes 1’s censored version came out first than the one we all know (although is the only version you can find in Europe) and later we were given the uncesored version and No More Heroes 2 isn’t censored, so yes, I do have a leg to stand on.

3.- History lessons? ok, if you really know so much about Venezuela, then tell me, who was Guzman Blanco? or Vicente Gómez? who was Romulo Bentancourt or Arturo Uslar Pietri? Do you know the names of the 3 most influencial persons of the 20th century of Venezuela’s history? Do you know who is Francisco de Miranda and what he did achieve? Do You know who is Andres Bello or Simón Rodríguez or Ezequiel Zamora? Do you know what was the point where Venezuela’s Bolívar managed to surpass the Dollar? Do you even know what is The Great Colombia and how big it was going to be? Because I do, and I seriously doubt you do, unless you either A) live here or B) you want to live here, which is a seriously bad idea. So don’t you ever say to me, to get some history lessons, because you literally insulted me, you may be on the Internet and you may be able to shield yourself over anonymate, but that still doens’t give you the right to insult other people, and you know its true.

4.- The Venezuela’s history rant aside, I am also a very calmed person, and I hardly get triggered (you just happen to have found one way), and I suppose you don’t even know what is a conversation, because long ago, this devolved from a conversation to a dumb fight of “who is right and who is wrong” and I am still doing this, because I am very curious of how far can you take this (comment limitations aside), so far, you’ve been an interesting subject.

                    1. “can she look like a 18 year old? no”
YES SHE CAN, that’s exactly my point. My brother and my girlfirend’s sister are 17, and their friends are both more and less developed than her. You can’t make such a wild generalization when that age range has such an array of differences between individuals.

” and later we were given the uncesored version and No More Heroes 2 isn’t censored”
No, you do not, because you claimed that games aren’t censored if they depict this kind of topics as wrong, yet NMH was censored anyway. The fact that NMH2 was not only shows that they learned their lesson the first time, not that publishers aren’t willing to butcher what studios make so they can keep people quiet.

“if you really know so much about Venezuela, then tell me, who was…”
I can tell you who Juan Vicente Gómez was: a dictator and a censor. That’s what my coment was about, the fact that your country went through several periods of autoritarism and yet here you are defending censorship.

“this devolved from a conversation to a dumb fight”
No, that’s what you don’t get. We’re not fighting. You are upset, I am not. I’m just pointing out the contradictions and explaining to you the priorities you seem to have wrong. Even if it doesn’t go through your skull, maybe someone else will read it and think about it.

So, no I’m not fighting with you, or arguing, or mad, or whatever. I don’t get mad at missinformed people.

                    2. I’m not being racist, and don’t care to jump into this conversation, but Japanese and chinese men and women almost appear eternally young. So 13, 18, 40…they just have that gift.

          2. Who even implied that censorship would be okay in video games, but not on TV? In a case like this, I would absolutely aprove of censorship in TV. In fact, I think in TV, censorship would be even more neccessary in a case like this. Just imagine a thirteen year-old girl running around in a bikini like that on TV. This would be even worse than the game, since here it would (usually) be an actual real-life girl being shown. No, that wouldn’t be acceptable in any medium. And to prove my point: I have already seen a number of shows where they have done this kind of censorship and I aproved of it. Yu-Gi-Oh!, for example, where they made the skirts of school-girls longer.

            1. “In a case like this, I would absolutely aprove of censorship in TV”
Then trying to argue with you is a moot point. We’re so far on the opposite site of the spectrum in this topic that it would be a waste of time for us both.

              1. It wouldn’t be a waste of time of both sides were actually willing to understand the other person’s point or to learn more about it, but its quite clear that (at least you) thats not the case.

                1. I understand his point of view, I just don’t share it. You, on the other hand, are unable to follow what I say in half of your posts. You should try speaking less and reading more before you try to give your opinion about anything..

                  1. Oh, I do, otherwise I wouldn’t be answering to you, and you know, the type of comments you tend to give are the same type of comments that people say when they think they can be entitled and say whatever they want without expecting repercussions whatsoever, like a troll.

                    1. Considering that sometimes you make extremely obvious with your replies that you don’t get my point, you should read everything at least twice. Maybe if I just switch to Spanish you’ll understand me better or something.

Without expecting repercussions? What repercussions? For what, for voicing my opinion on this topic, which happens to be different from yours? Don’t be ridiculous.

If you stop to read my posts, you’ll see that I reply very amicably to the people who are making good points with their post (no matter if they happen to share my opinion or not), calling out those who make retarded assumptions or correcting people if I happen to be better informed about something than they are. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean he’s trolling you.

                  2. “I can tell you who Juan Vicente Gómez was: a dictator and a censor. That’s what my coment was about, the fact that your country went through several periods of autoritarism and yet here you are defending censorship.” Boy if thats all you have about Venezuela, then no wonder your little comments, ignoring other people’s claims and comments for the sake of beign right, I will let it pass since you’re at that age where you’re trying to figure out where you are (and that other existencial crap) because at that age we all do and say pretty dumb stuff, don’t worry, I forgive you.

But seriously, if you think a dictatorship is only about censorship then you should try to investigate more, because Guzman Blanco was a Dictator and he is very loved by Venezuelan people, along another Dictator that is a better example of censorship, but for the way you talk about “censorship” and Venezuela, you really don’t know who I’m talking about neither why he is so loved (both Blanco and the other Dictator), and no, I am not defending censorship, this is the kind of stuff that always happens when localizing a game, get over it.

                    1. “ignoring other people’s claims and comments for the sake of beign right”
I literally never do this unless the conversation is tangential to the main topic at best and I have no interest to deviate from it.

“I will let it pass since you’re at that age where you’re trying to figure out where you are (and that other existencial crap) because at that age we all do and say pretty dumb stuff, don’t worry, I forgive you”
Now you’re trying to patronize me by claiming you’re older than me? Come on, now. It’s very obvious from both how I express myself and how you do that I’m the oldest of us both. Trying to make those assumptions only makes you look bad in the eyes of whomever is reading this.

“Guzman Blanco was a Dictator and he is very loved by Venezuelan people”
I am aware, and you don’t seem to notice that it doesn’t matter to the original point I made. In fact, it reinforces the ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ part.

“and no, I am not defending censorship”
You literally just did it when you defended Guzman Blanco a couple of lines ago.

                  3. No, I don’t call you a troll because you disagree with me, I call you a troll because you’re just ignoring everybody who is saying not only the problem with this, but are also pointing out just how out of proportions people like you are making this out, this is a minor thing to complain, it isn’t important, and if you really can tell if someone is yelling through their typing, you must have some serious Psychic skills, because thats impossible, you cannot tell if someone is yelling or not just for how they type, and if you mean for my caps, I do it to emphasize my point, not to scream. and yes, I read what you write, because otherwise I wouldn’t be answering to you, and yes, I can see your point, is just that you’re trying to make it look more important than it actually is.

                    1. “you’re just ignoring everybody who is saying not only the problem with this”
How am I ignoring anyone when half of the replies ITT are mine? I’m not going to paste my post each time someone says the very same thing.

“how out of proportions people like you are making this out”
                      You still don’t get it.

“you cannot tell if someone is yelling or not just for how they type”
I can know when someone is much more emotionally invested in the conversation than I am, though.

“I read what you write, because otherwise I wouldn’t be answering to you”
The irony in this statement. I never claimed that you don’t read what I post, I claimed that you don’t undertstand it because you have terrible reading comprehension.

                    2. I’m sorry, I have to reply to this. This is not a minor thing. It may appear to be, but it’s not. This is an ongoing problem with the U.S. versions of Nintendo games. Bravely Default, Fatal Frame, and now Xenoblade Chronicles, just to name a few. It’s snowballing into a seriously bad trend. By defending this outfit change you defend censorship. Period. End of discussion.

I agree with Marce2240. Censorship, even a bikini on a 13 year old is still censorship. I want the material in its original format. Let me be the judge if it’s too racy. Don’t judge the game for me.

Btw, the original Xenoblade had these same outfits in them. That was not a problem. You did not have any outcry…..

Censorship is bullshit, stop supporting it.

                  4. Dude, do you even know what Guzman Blanco did to Venezuela? do you even know what is the definition of Dictatorship? a Dictator is ANYONE who takes control of the Goverment by force and thats it, Guzman Blanco took control fo Venezuela by force and during his rule, Venezuela was at peace (which says a lot if you know how things were during the 19th Century), he was the first President of Venezuela who tried to make Venezuela relevant to the World, he build the Theather of Caracas and brang many buildings that are considered Patrimonial culture to Venezuela, he was the first President who tried to cut the Catholic Church’s influence in Venezuela by bringing Civil weddings (wether thats good or not, I’ll leave it to you), he made The Bolivar (yes, our currency was made for him), it was the first time Venezuela grew in a time of Civil war, if you think I have Stockholm Syndrom because of that, then you don’t even understand what is nationalism.

I would be having “Stockholm Syndrom” if I were defending Vicente Gómez who’s motto was “A dumb people is a manipulative people” which means that he was against studying and he even exiled the Generation of the 28th and used his political enemies to make stuff like highways), the only good things that people let him pass are:

1.- He destroyed the Caudillismo, which meant the end of the civil wars that dominated the 19th Century in Venezuela.

2.- He had Venezuela away from WWI.

3.- He payed ALL of the International debt of Venezuela (which I haven’t heard of another nation of ever doing that.

Other than that, he stole Venezuela’s Money, he supress everybody until he died in 1935. But other than that, he is hated by everyone, even if he still was (wether we like it or not) one of the best Presidents in Venezuela’s History.

Don’t you ever try to compare Gómez’s (Or Márcos Pérez Jiménez’s) Dictatorship with this, because this clothes are dumb compared to that (especially Jiménez), you don’t know what is censorship, until you live it (like I am living it right now, you cannot say anything bad about the actual Goverment or they chase you and send you to Jail), but I’m pretty sure you don’t even realise how badly you have insulted me or my own country, instead, you will only reinforce what you said and completely ignore my claims, like every other troll would do.

Oh, I have 22 years BTW, born in 4/08/1993, 6 years away from a new time of communist dictatorship, that only helps its own and treat the rest (including its won people) like if they weren’t even worth to care for (and if you mentions votes, I will remind you that they fixed the elections ever since 2007).

I repeat: NEVER compare political censorship (especially one from a dictatorship or Autoritharism) with the one of a game (especially one that isn’t even a censorship but something that always comes when localizing a game), because they are very, VERY different. and yes, you made me mad about this one, because you’re claiming stuff about my own country, that aren’t real or true, and you got NO CLAIM WHATSOEVER about it, you’ve never been there nor here to know how bad it is, with claims like that you don’t look to me as a commenter or analyst or anything else but a troll.

Good day sir/lady, have a nice day.

                    1. Jesus Christ, man. You are reading what you want to read.

“Dude, do you even know what Guzman Blanco did to Venezuela?”
Doesn’t matter, because we’re talking about censorship. He was a censor, you’re defending him. The opinion of the people of your country about him is irrelevant to the conversation.

“if you think I have Stockholm Syndrom because of that, then you don’t even understand what is nationalism.”
Because I understand it I consider it ridiculous, and you’re mixing things up with the Stockholm syndrome part.

“I would be having “Stockholm Syndrom” if I were defending Vicente Gómez”
The fact that he was a worst dictator than Guzmán Blanco doesn’t matter to the conversation, you’re just changing one censor for another.

“you don’t know what is censorship, until you live it (like I am living it right now, you cannot say anything bad about the actual Goverment or they chase you and send you to Jail)”
So as I said, a Venezuelan defending censorship. Crazy.

                      “Oh, I have 22 years”
You are overestimating how much I care about your personal situation.

“I repeat: NEVER compare political censorship (especially one from a dictatorship or Autoritharism) with the one of a game (especially one that isn’t even a censorship but something that always comes when localizing a game)”
Nowadays one would include the other, and localization is not the same as censorship. Not even close.

                    1. Oh, he was a censor alright. Maybe they don’t teach you that in Venezuela, but he has a strict view on hispanic culture not created in Venezuela. His protectionist views on culture may have improved the stability and development of your country, but they also slowed the expansion of literatures of other countries (the older half of Spain’s generación del 98 in particular).

                    2. Besides, all this mess about Venezuela came from that post in which I implied it’s crazy that a Venezuelan defends censorship, of all people. Reminder:

“you don’t know what is censorship, until you live it (like I am living it right now, you cannot say anything bad about the actual Goverment or they chase you and send you to Jail)”
So as I said, a Venezuelan defending censorship. Crazy.

                  5. You do know that he was a fan of French culture and the European states and the hate towards Spain isn’t weird or anything if you consider Venezuela’s former relation with Spain, right? And not only that, In his desire to send Venezuela to World recognition, he wasn’t someone to screw around, he would go against Spain, the Dutch (because in the Islands of Aruba were enemies of his and he wanted them far away from Venezuela and even to the point of war if neccesary), Britain (for the Esequibo) and even the US if they were doing something that would be detrimental to Venezuela (or they were being plain bullies).

And please explain me, what is this Generation of 98 you’re talking about? Antonio Guzman Blanco ruled from 1870 to 1888 with 2 puppet rulers in between and also being the first President who modernized Venezuela, so this literature censorship is not only new to mention but completely separate and contradictory to how he managed the country (unless those books were against him, which I wouldn’t see as weird, but about 85% of Venezuela loved him at that time (they didn’t wanted him to resign in the 88) and with 2 exceptions, beign the student revolt of the 88 the latter, there wasn’t many rebellions against him, at least, not big ones or capable of defeating him), from where did you get that? and from what country?

                    1. “and the hate towards Spain isn’t weird or anything if you consider Venezuela’s former relation with Spain, right?”
Everything you said is irrelevant. He was a dictator that censored the things that went against his ideas. Period.

“And please explain me, what is this Generation of 98 you’re talking about?”
Google is your friend. The first half of the generation was affected by him, the latter half by Vicente Gómez.

“unless those books were against him, which I wouldn’t see as weird”
How not? Taking power by force is not the rightful way to gain it, no matter what was the public opinion about him at the time. There’s a lot of dictators that were loved by their people. Primo de Rivera, António Salazar (at least at first) or even Hitler for that matter. Doesn’t mean they weren’t dictators.
It’s taken from a book used at universities to act as recommended bibliography for Spanish literature studies of the period, written by Ortega y Gasset.

                  6. But the ideas of Guzman Blanco were to either praise him (which everybody in Venezuela did) or improve Venezuela (which he did), he wasn’t known for censor someone or somebody, in fact, he got nothing to do with the Generation of 98 since he stopped beign a President in 88 (10 years of difference) and he died in 99 in France, he couldn’t have been related at all with the Generation of 98; aren’t you confusing him with Cipriano Castro (who ruled from 1899 – 1908, beign exiled by Vicente Gómez), another dictator that Venezuela had and also one of the most influential of Venezuela during the 20th Century (along Gómez, irrelevant I know, but I still want to point it out)?

I mean that I wouldn’t see as weird if he censored books that were against him because all dictatorships do that, but (again) pretty much every Venezuelan loves him (both back then and now, being considered one of the Best Presidents in Venezuela’s History) and almost nobody talked badly about him, and from what I can get about the Generation of 98, that Generation wasn’t focused in Blanco, they were focused in the state of Spain during 98 onwards (which (again) didn’t affected Blanco) and would probably be more dangerous to the likes of Castro and Gómez who hated literature and wanted to rule over a dumb country rather than a powerful one (unlike Blanco).

                    1. “he wasn’t known for censor someone or somebody”
That doesn’t mean he never did it.

“he got nothing to do with the Generation of 98 since he stopped beign a President in 88”
They didn’t start writing in 98. And I know, that’s why I explicitely refered to the first half of the generation.

“I wouldn’t see as weird if he censored books that were against him because all dictatorships do that”
It sure does look that way to me.

“they were focused in the state of Spain during 98 onwards”
And before. And I never said he persecuted them, just that he (and his successors) mitigated the expansion of their writings. There’s hardly any literary influence of the writings of the generación del 98 in Venezuela. Blame it on Gómez if you want, doesn’t change the fact that it started with him

                  7. You got no proof or evidence that Blanco didn’t allowed or censored the Generation of 98, that is just plain speculation, is more plausible that the reason as to why Venezuela didn’t had them, for example, is that Blanco had political problems with Spain (because when 2 nations start to have political problems, they stop having connections, like US and Japan during WWII, is the first example that came to my mind, but hopefully you do get what I mean), not because he decided to personally censor them, especially because he was also focused on improving the studying aspects of Venezuela, I can assure you, that if Venezuela didn’t had a problem with Spain during that period, those books would have gotten to Venezuela (and if you think that argument is speculation, is just as speculative as yours) and the guzmancismo practically died with him, his succesors couldn’t have stopped it either, so again, this looks more like the work of Castro-Gómez than anyone else, and please do tell me, from what country are you to believe that you know more about my country’s history than myself? because unless you’re Venezuelan there is no way that you can actually know about him (which you don’t since you don’t see to understand his importance to the overall history of Venezuela) and still make such claims about him.

                    1. “You got no proof or evidence that Blanco didn’t allowed or censored the Generation of 98”
What the fuck? I’ve already told you, it’s in Gasset’s book.

“the reason as to why Venezuela didn’t had them, for example, is that Blanco had political problems with Spain”
It states that they were actively prohibited.

“this looks more like the work of Castro-Gómez”
Ok, have it your way. Blanco, Gómez, both serve to illustrate my original point, the reason why this off-topic conversation even started: since your country has such a close history with censorship and persecution, you should be wary of any kind of censorship.

                  8. So you’re basically going to believe to some dude who wanted to talk bad about him? is like when Marx decided to do the same thing with Bolívar: completely out of Character, it ignores their achievements and are based around speculations and lies (which I shouldn’t be surprissed considering he is from Spain, blame a dictator for the books of your country not reaching another one), why don’t you instead of believing him straight away, you start researching Guzman Blanco’s life (like anyone else should), because instead of listening blindly to someone, you should first research more about their life to see how right they were, or else, you have Marx claims about Bolívar (who was wrong), because I’m pretty sure that I know more about him (since I research about his life throughly all the time) than some guy who made a baseless claim.

And thats the problem with having free speach, even if you’re not censored, that doesn’t makes you right. or that what you’re claiming is right, yes, I’m wary of censorship, but I prefer to be wary of what I’m beign told, because sometimes people prefer to abuse of their free speak to say lies.

                    1. “So you’re basically going to believe to some dude who wanted to talk bad about him?”
Gasset is not ‘some dude’ either. And yes, since the lack of influence is enough proof for me.

“why don’t you instead of believing him straight away, you start researching Guzman Blanco’s life”
Why don’t you research how the influence of the generación del 98 can be found in almost every South-American country except Venezuela?

“because I’m pretty sure that I know more about him (since I research about his life throughly all the time) than some guy who made a baseless claim”
                      The bravado.

                  9. The influence of the Generation of 98 can be found anywhere except Venezuela? and that is bad because? Still, we got the Generation of 28, much more important for us. But I’m pretty sure you’re not even gonna research who they are because that require actual efforts.

Still, you should research about Blanco before believing that guy, you because until you do, you’re basically making a blind following (at least I recognize Blanco’s flaws like his ego and corruptness, should he have ever done censorship, we would have known and we would have condemned him for it, we never let pass that kind of stuff EVER).

          3. It’s pointed out for rating content. If they don’t censor it, it simply becomes a higher rating? Books aren’t censored, but some are certainly more explicit than others, and while kids can pick up and buy any book they want, it’s not recommended. It’s the same principle. We wouldn’t want little Timmy reading erotic fiction or looking at an exposed body when the game is rated E or E 10+. Anyway – me personally, I have a problem with worldbuilding. It doesn’t make since not to gear up in a game where fighting is inevitable, unless she’s characterized as just stupid or slutty (but… she’s 13…).

            1. Just to add: it’s obviously worth keeping the content rating then her outfits to the game producers, so I don’t see a problem. Whether she’s wearing nothing or something, she still performs the same role in the video game, and her outfit change isn’t going to drastically effect the game’s experience. If you really want to be looking at exposed bodies, we do have porn.

I feel content censoring is acceptable for content rating purposes. If the producers felt strongly about her outfit, they would just make the content rating more mature methinks.

            2. But I don’t think this would bump the rating. A Teen rating allows partial nudity as far as I know. The Tales games are rated T and some of them feature similar outfits as far as I know (I’m talking from memory here)

I get what you mean, but I don’t get how it applies to this case. If anything you’re saying that little Timmy shouldn’t be playing T-rated games, a sentiment I agree with.

Have you played Xenoblade Chronicles? There’s similar suits for every character that allow them to swim faster. If anything it’s good worldbuilding.

          4. HollowGrapeJ (The Legendary Video Game Master And Anime Wizard)

Isn’t this just a costume in the game? And not her default clothes? If that’s the case, people could just, you know… Not choose it?

            1. Why do you think people claim Nintendo is too kiddy for them? It’s all because of things like this. It’s a small thing, but how they act about these kind of things is what people remember about the company. Is Tales games can get away with things like this, why can’t this game?

                1. HollowGrapeJ (The Legendary Video Game Master And Anime Wizard)

That’s not what he’s trying to say. You’re missing the point.

      2. It’s not about the “fapping material”, it’s about the implications.
If you let censorship start leaking through the cracks, even if it’s just over unimportant stuff like an outfit, you’re providing a feasible precedent for someone to go all Sarkeesian on your ass and start demanding bigger changes each time.
Today it is Lin’s outfit, tomorrow we may have to say goodbye to male Link, and in time you’ll be unable to play a game without being constantly nagged about some narrow-minded pseudo-equality bullshit.

          1. A huge thing being pushed right now is to make Zelda playable, if not to change Links gender. The first E3 trailer for Zelda saw a lot of people hoping Link was a female, because of the look he had. This whole sjw movement and a lot of people are pushing for it because of “equality.” Im not against equality, im all in favor for it actually but changing shit like this for the sake of changing it is unnecessary.

            1. I didn’t know that. I wouldn’t be completely opposed to having a female protagonist. I’m not really sure of how Link’s geneology works, like if all the Link’s are related to each other. But it would be interesting to see a female version of the Hero. I don’t think the gender should be changed simply for equality purposes or political correctness though.

      3. Why do you got so many likes? Hard to believe so many of you support censorship.

The original game had bikinis as optional clothing and it was no big deal. Censorship is never a good thing guys, for better or worse. The individual should be responsible for judging if content is too racy, or revealing. I do not need a corporation doing it for me.

    2. PC Master Race Agent Narud

      ||Let’s see the Nintendo perverts rampage across the comment section because they wanted to see a 15 year old girl half-naked……

    3. This one I can actually get behind. the game is what? rated T? reduces the risk. Plus the replacement costume in this case looks actually really cool, unlike those goddam Samus and Zelda costumes in Fatal frame V

      1. I agree, the costumes are fairly good, the problem is that this has the potential to set a precedent and create opportunities for much more politically-charged censorship in the future.

      1. PC Master Race Agent Narud

        ||You’ve demonstrated some evolved intelligence by your comment young prodigal, still, it’s too late for redemption……

    4. Pingback: Some outfits censored in Xenoblade Chronicles X for the West | Wii U

    5. She was 13 in the JP version? That is fucked up. I’m with Nintendo Europe here, change her age and make it less revealing.

And as Anubis said, why the hell would she be wearing something like that anyways? People want to sexualize everything these days…

          1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

            >>>I believe it has to do between 13-17, not adults so no, there is nothing wrong with it>>>

      1. Anubis, Son of Osiris

No, I find this necessary. It’s a minor wearing next to nothing. I’m not the hugest fan of companies censoring their games, but come on :/ this ain’t right.

            1. I agree with stranga, for once. It’s not a minor wearing next to nothing, it’s a fictional character wearing next to nothing. There’s a big difference there. I don’t think anyone here disagrees with the sentiment that pedophilia and the sexualization of minors is wrong, but the fact is, you’re not looking at a minor. You’re looking at a character in a videogame with an anime artsyle that happens to be 13 years old. Minors don’t look like that, there’s a reason why you can up her age to 15 years without creating a discrepancy between her looks and her age: her age is just an arbitrary convention we’ve made. I could make a game featuring that same model and say she’s 22, and you’d believe it because her looks indicate nothing.

                1. Not exactly, but that should be enough to justify it, yes. Lolita has been out for a while. If a creator want to add this kind of content into the game, they should be able to without anyone censoring anything.

Would you be ok if RE5 had changed every enemy in the game to white people since otherwise you’d be supporting black genocide? Because that’s similar to what many people are saying (and are going to say, just watch) about this.

            2. which if u look at their laws says this ok since they can have legal sex at 13( only with other 13 year olds). Being a reason japan gets the pass but others don’t

          1. It’s simple, really. The boundaries of common decency are not the same in Japan and in Europe. So the content is adapted to fit the region’s cultural boundaries. It’s called localisation.

            1. This has nothing to do with common decency or, like that pumpkin person says up there, about making the clothing of the characters logical.
Why you ask? Simple, the male swimsuit outfit is not being changed.
This change is politically-driven, designed to appease the sex-negative feminist crowd without entirely offending the equally insane sex-positive side.
Like I’ve stated countless times before, I’m not against a game being changed if the change creates a better experience, but I will never stand by politically-driven censorship, especially that which is only there to please people who are never pleased with anything, this is the very same reason I strongly oppose changing Link’s gender.

              1. There are no male characters in the game that are sexually minors in the west. This change only affects Lin, the only character that is underage: Elma’s swimsuit is alive and well across all versions. Try again, with more compelling comparisons next time.

It is not politically-driven, it is common decency, the thing that is linked with game ratings. What’s the most sensible thing to do? Alter a meaningless swimsuit or keep the content unchanged and have the game banned from sales in several target countries?

          1. It goes buy japanese law this ok. Her age iswhy it is allowed. If she was 12 japan would not approve since the age of which they can have sex is 3, but only with 13 year olds

                1. I saw. That’s it? I’ve seen Nintendo allow more provocative shit than this and did they forgot they funded and release Bayonetta 2 which did shows plenty of that same stuff? Age change is necessary and that’s all that should be done.

                  1. bayonetta is not 13 years old and has different tone than this game( very over the top and not serious). but i’m done with this topic, u clearly arent going to move

                    1. I character that’s age corrected over 1 costume that’s not even as provocative as Rouge the Bat. As long as she’s not acting out in a sexualized manner in the game..a Teen rated game BTW (for dudes over 13-17 and up), then what’s the problem?

      1. you are joking right? your only reason for not buying the game is because…. they chose to change a few assets which looks cooler now, in their own damn game? you anti-cencorship dingleberries need to get over yourselves. every day you guys sound more and more like little babies over things that make no real impact.

bet you would rather they get sued for it just because you are some justice warrior, fighting for the rights of no one, since it was a self imposed choice they made.

        1. We’re not all as extreme as him. Of course it would be stupid to pass up this game because of the costume change.

      2. This is when people blow little things out of proportion. First, it’s not censorship, it’s localisation. Second, how skimpy a character’s outfits can be is completely irrelevant to the awesomeness of the game’s gameplay, so this particular point is one of the shittiest reasons not to buy the game you could have come up with.

    6. I have a question, why does Japan get the original version and then the rest of the world gets censored? To be honest, yes the outfits are skimpy, but at the same time, if 2/3 of the world isn’t going to see the skimpy outfit, why does 1/3 get to. Like why does Europe and America get censored but Japan doesn’t?

      1. Why, thank you for making some sense. And this is not only about the outfits, we know about terms in XCX that have been changed to something completely different during location (dolls to skells, for example).

            1. No, it’s not a big thing (Fatal Frame’s case was much wose), but I’m still not fine with it because it creates a precedent by which other games might get important content censored just because someone considers it to be immoral or inadequate, no matter it it’s related to the plot, if it conveys an importan theme of the story, if it serves to create atmosphere, etc.

          1. Overall, this happening do to a cultural difference in the world. As far as we know she might be the only one, or not. All this costume does is take u out of the game, that is why i don’t care for it so much as well as the fatal frame stuff even the samus and zelda costumes take me out of the game they both are there for joke/fanservice which is why i dont use them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hksZVXg046A

            1. “All this costume does is take u out of the game”
Not to me, at least. Cultural differences and all that.

And I’m not watching a Gaijin Goomba video, sorry.

      2. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

The culture of baths contributes to this. Japanese people have higher tolerance levels for nudity because families bathe with one another well into adulthood. You’ll se murals of nude women next to childrens toy stores. It’s just the way it is. However, they have a very low tolerance for violence and especially gore. So most violent sequences get censored in Japan.

        1. its funny because the more perverted stuff acucally has less to do with that and more to do with, THE US of A. when the whole war thing was going on , japan took alot of culture from the stationed American forces, leading to two big changes. Technology, and shame. that shame had to do with nudity, and underwear started to catch on heavily… so heavily that it became a more desirable object to men, so much so that used underwear can be sold in vending machines.

no i probably did not get it all right, but one thing is for sure, we can blame the US

          1. No, you didn’t. You left the most important part out: they have a long history with the censorship of genitalia. That’s why there’s tentacle porn and all that kind of weird shit, their porn couldn’t feature dicks and it was the next best thing.

      3. Because the original was created by Japanese people and targeted towards Japanese people. That people’s decency boundaries in relation to nudity (especially children) are much more lenient than ours. It’s as simple as that. Not censorship, localisation.

    7. Good, it’s absolutely ridiculous to think a character from a video game being modeled around a 13 year old girl while sporting the next Victoria’s Secret “Hardly There” line of lingerie is necessary.

I still want the game, and still plan on getting it.

    8. I actually like the censored costumes more than the original (implying that is the censored version and not a different costume).

    9. To be honest Europe get a better deal and a half naked 13 yo really….. .I think it’s an improvement more than anything to be honest. When I read the title I thought it going to be much worse than that. I am behind Nintendo Europe on that one. I hope they have made some improvements on the game while they made the changes for this character.

    10. I personally think that this is for the better. I’m not buying the game for the almost-porn, anyways, and it WAS extremely inapropriate and out-of-place. Maybe not so much in Japan (which is quite sick), but definitely in the rest of the world. Plus, it wouldn’t have been financially wise to have the game get pushed from a T to an M rating, just to have an almost naked under-age girl in the game. All of the other characters will probably keep their sexy outfits, anyways.

    11. In my opinion, I prefer the censored version anyway.
Rather not see a 13 year old in a skimpy bikini. That’s just wrong. (I know she’s not real. It’s still not right.)

    12. I don’t really care about this that much, I mean…She 13 years old. For u people who don’t understand in japan the age which u can have sex is 13 years old…in other coutries like the US, and UK it is higher…so yeah

    13. While I do like the NA outfits better I’ll never condone censorship.
Anyway, in the “censored” pictures her legs are way shorter what lead someone to suggest that whoever took those pictures may have actually made the main character look like Lin (but failed at the legs) and then put on some other pieces of clothing

      1. self imposed censorship is a stylistic choice, so it is not real censorship.

besides censorship can be a good thing. it can do more than just protect moral value, but even keep you safe.

        1. It wasn’t self imposed, the devs put it there and the localisation teams changed it, it was imposed by the localisation teams and I doubt it was even mentioned to the original devs.

I also don’t need someone else deciding my moral values for me, what I can experience and what I cannot. People are capable of reason, we can judge the information we recieve and decide for ourselves wether we agree or disagree with it but for that we need the whole story, we need information and censorship, in all its forms, serves only to deny information, to force the same moral values into everyone and when that happens echo chambers appear and they’re always dangerous, sure this case might be rather small but this things pile up.

And yes, maybe people of smaller age are not ready judge some things yet but an M rating wouldn’t have hurt its sales since this is a niche title whose audience is mostly older anyway, the fact that it’s censored will probably hurt the sales more.

      2. Yes! I was surprised nobody else mentioned this. The moment I saw the pictures, the only thing that caught my attention was the unproportional anatomy of the “censored” version. Her legs are way too short and “small” compared to her torso and head. Looks extremely strange – maybe too strange to be real, as you’ve suggested.

    14. I understand that people would be bothered by this kind of change. It can be annoying that aspects of the game are changed just to adapt to cultural differences. It usually bothers me too. A game like this should reflect the culture that it came from, not the culture of the place it ends up in. It is after all a JRPG. Having said that, I’m personally glad the change was made. Those outfits are just a bit too skimpy for my taste. I want to play a video game not a porno. I really don’t need the potential to be turned on by a video game. Besides, those outfits really don’t make a lot of sense in the environment of the game.

    15. I have to look at Shulk and Zero Suit Samus run around in their underwear/bikini in Smash Bros. Somehow that is okay for the West. Nobody complains about that.
Not that I really care, but it pisses me off that NoA and NoE think we are somehow unable to mentally handle this.

        1. My point was more towards the people that were saying things in the comments like “I don’t want to look at a porno while playing a game” or “all this does is take you out of the game and distract you”. And yes, I’m aware of how things are viewed in Japan. Thank you.

          1. Nowi is not a human from Earth. She’s located in an environment that is much more disconnected from the real world than Xenoblade X’s, where we play as actual human refugees from Earth.

            1. Oh, so the excuse of the magical girl is ok now to sexualize a character that actually looks, talks and behaves like a kid? You people have no common sense. If she looks like a human being, people are going to (subconsciously) think of her as a human being, no matter what race the game claims she is.

                1. Same thing, because the user is not interpreting in any different way just because she has pointy ears. But glad to know this, because it even makes it easier to keep the outfit. Just say she’s a robot, like the protagonist.

                    1. But she’s not real. That’s the whole point. You can’t say that Nowi gets a pass because she’s a different species while claiming that Lin needs to be censored because she’s human. That’s ridiculous.

        2. you piss me off more.
getting pissed over something so damn stupid. they dont care how malleable your pathetic mental state is. They care about laws, and they care about their bottom lines.
dont like it? well too bad for you! they have every right to do as they wish with their product, such as improve it such as in this.

          1. Good god, you people are retarded. “you piss me of more. getting pissed over something so damn stupid.”
…yeah, like you getting pissed over a comment on a video game site. That IS pretty damn stupid. I agree.
Dude, I totally know that that’s what they’re concerned about. I get that the political correctness of the west causes them do change stuff like this. And as I said previously “Not that I really care”
            …relax.

      1. As usual, I don’t really care.

Costumes generally have little to no effect on whether I’ll enjoy the game or not. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a total non issue.

      2. I think this is an improvement.

I notice they did definitely change the model– but for the much better. The original model has very proportionally off legs. Incredibly long and slender for her torso’s size (and especially age). The new model doesn’t adjust her figure in any way that’s noticeable, if at all, but it does shorten up her legs to actual normal human lengths. Good job on Nintendo for fixing models.

      3. She is 13 and on a alien planet so why in the world would you even where that the censored costum looks much better

        1. Furthermore, what’s a 13 year-old doing on an alien planet? Remove her from the game!
Wait, an alien planet? What a load of unrealistic bullshit. The game now takes place on Earth, like it should.

        2. Agility. Some people are so damn good at hand to hand combat that less armor is more since they are relying on speed and agility to win, not bulk strength.
          Yeah? :)

      4. To be honest, Nintendo does do a lot of censoring. But like honestly, when I look at her character model, she does not look 13 or even 15, I could pass her off as 18. To be honest, you’re telling me that a 13 year old girl can pilot a mech and use weapons twice her size? It is slightly bizarre the things Nintendo will censor when you look at games like Bayonetta 2. Even then, the fact they change terms and the name of locations is kind of annoying. I can understand why they would, but at the same time, all these changes take longer time to which means people outside of Japan have to wait while they censor and change things. This is why I’m glad that Nintendo doesn’t have a lot of RPG’s on their systems today, because if they did, imagine how much would change between Japan and the rest of the world, how much would get censored.

      5. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH THIS PIECE OF SHIT COUNTRY, CENSORING XENOBLADES, FATAL FRAME, AND THE MAKING FATAL FRAME, AND GRAVITY RUSH REMASTERED DIGITAL ONLY!? i’M NOT BUYING ANYMORE FUCKING LOCALIZED GAMES, AND I’M CANCELING MY PRE-ORDER OF THIS SHIT, FUCK NINTENDO, SCEA, AND SCEE, THEY CAN KEEP THEIR BULLSHIT CENSORED DIGITAL ONLY FUCKING SHIT TO THEMSELVES, I’M TIRED OF THEIR BULLSHIT!!!

      6. How did a change of costume from Japanese version to the US version took the road down the sexual consent in Japan?
Some people just make me burst into laughter… xD

      7. Gosh people!! I’m happy they censored it and I couldn’t give a crap how old she was!! I don’t care if she’s 35!! The clothing was much to skimpy to be in a teen rated game!! Go play an M rated game if you want that! Personally I don’t think things like that should be in any games!! You guys are all complaining about this only because of the law?! What about the fact that it’s morally perverted?! What is wrong with the world these days?!

        1. HollowGrapeJ (The Legendary Video Game Master And Anime Wizard)

“The clothing was much too skimpy to be in a teen rated game!!” It’s not. T rated JRPGs with girls in skimpy outfits exist.

        2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

If this was a game for kids, I’d agree but this is for teenagers. T.e.e.n.a.g.e.r.s. I guess you go to a public beach or public pool & scream at all of the teenagers in bikinis to put some clothes on, huh? Probably report every single bikini clad girl drawing on Miiverse as being sexually explicit. It’s not the bikinis fault you people have such a dirty mind & see it as being sexual. If she was posing sexually while wearing a bikini, then you people would have a bloody point.

      8. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

        >>>Here we ago again with this pathetic primitive subject>>>

        >>>Regardless of side in this you are all useless, sex shouldn’t even be included in gaming to begin with, only an excuse for human sexual rituals once again as if there aren’t places with this kind of garbage already>>>

        1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

*facepalm* That’s the problem with the world today. People put such a taboo on showing too much skin or put a taboo on nudity that they think any bit of nudity or too much skin is sexual. There’s a big fucking difference between being sexual & being nude. I guess babies are sexual because they are born nude/naked. I guess taking baths is also sexual because we have to get naked to do so.

          1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

            >>>My problem isn’t with nudity or censorship, my problem is exactly what humans are>>>

            >>>Only cares about sex and restrictions, there is no balance in anything they do>>>

      9. YES!!! THANK YOU!!!
When I saw that character wearing that outfit I was thinking to myself “Is one of the producers a pedophile? She’s FREAKIN’ 13!”

I’m glad the US has caught up on this, and it’s also one of the very few times I’ve been thankful for American censorship in a video game.

      10. I’m just going to copy n’ paste my comment from another site.

“I’d rather have more of these types of armor anyway, the western version that is. A girl fighting aliens/monsters with a gun or blade in a bikini, completely pulls me out of my immersion. Also, while I wouldn’t use it, I’d rather see it done more creatively. One of them looks like a plain metal bikini and the other is just a bikini. That’s just boring and plain. Check out the Witch in Stella Gold. THAT looks a hell of a lot more creative! While that outfit is fitting for the fantasy RPG it is, I’d like to see it done in Xenoblade with a more sci-fi theme.

However, the character is thirteen years old. Yeah, it’s understandable considering how touchy this would be in the west. Personally, I’m particularly touchy when it comes to young teens wearing next to nothing, even if it’s a videogame.”

        1. Yeah, those other outfits are illogical and stupid looking. Im looking to play a game, not beat off like a rabid 12 year old to cartoons and comics… not that I ever did that sort of thing

      11. Although censorship sucks and I’m very against it, I see why they *had* to do it. She was modeled to be a 13 year old, which is okay in Japan but she probably couldn’t pass as 18 in N.A.
At least the new outfit looks good. It could’ve been much worse if you ask me. If people really wanted to see a skimpy younger girl, maybe they should of designed her to be about 16 or 17 for Japan, then she could easily of passed for 18 here in N.A.

      12. Where as I don’t think this kind of stuff should be censored, I do like the change. The original design looks boring, like it was just supposed to be revealing. No real thought. The EU design looks a lot more badass and memorable imo

      13. I just canceled my pre-order of this censored piece of shit! fuck sony, microsoft, and nintendo. Between Nintendo censoring all their games, Fatal Frame WiiU, and Gravity Rush Remastered being digital only for America, I’m not buying anymore fucking games. fuck Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.

      14. Am I the only person in this comment section that wants to play Xenoblade Chronicles X because it is the spiritual successor of one of the best RPG’s I have ever played. I want to play this game to experience the story and to have fun exploring the gigantic world. This only improves the experience for me.

        1. Nah there’s some people like myself who want to play this game cause they also loved XenoBlade Chronicles.

      15. I’m surprised people didn’t see this coming. A character that young of age, wearing that skimpy shit, easily would’ve saw an M rating.

I see someone people with the usual bullshit of “But, she’s not real! It’s just a game!” … Okay, well open your closed mind for a second. You can spout the “fiction” argument all you want, but everyone is influenced in different ways. You have a fictional, minor-aged character wearing that kind of sexy stuff… I sure as hell wouldn’t want my kids playing a T rated game with that crap. Plus, you have to take cultural differences into account.

Does this affect the gameplay or story at all? No. Is their less content? No, it’s replaced with new costumes. So, your complaints are moot and honestly pretty stupid. The end.

        1. The irony of you calling the people who say, “She’s not real. It’s just a game.” closed minded is depressingly hilarious.

I say depressing because some people actually think like you do. You overly sensitive people are the reason things get censored and force that censorship down everyone else’s throats. If you insist on babying your teenage children, then stick to buying them E rated games.

        2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Your teenage kids should be old enough to separate fiction from reality, unless they are stupid or just mentally challenged. If they are stupid or mentally challenged, I would think them playing a T for Teen game would be out of the question, anyway.

      16. THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR REAL!!!!!!!!! WHY WAS THIS EVEN IN THE GAME TO BEGIN WITH????

SHE’S LIKE 13 IN THE JAPANESE VERSION AND SHE’S STILL JUST 16 IN THE AMERICAN ONE IT’S SO CREEPY AND COMPLETELY HORRIBLE

SOMEONE TELL THE DIRECTOR BEHIND THIS GAME TO STOP

      17. So far, the censorship-positive crowd’s only tactic in this debate seems to be crying pedophile.
This lot has basically convinced themselves that the only reason anyone could ever oppose the change is a sexual interest in minors and just respond to everything said to them as if they were responding to that, they don’t care to listen to the several concerns the other side has to voice; concerns about the politic nature of the change, about the double standards that the lack of other changes represents, about what allowing censorship implies for the future of free expression within the industry, about the puritanical ideology of the west that perceives nudity as sexual regardless of context; all of these are rather valid points that are commonly expressed by those who oppose censorship, but they rarely get discussed because everyone on the other side is busier creating straw mans.

        1. Now, as someone who strongly opposes censorship, do I like the new designs better?
Yes, they’re much more pleasing from an aesthetic point of view; but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have ulterior motives to their existence, and that’s where my issue with them lies.

          1. Not as far as you have to be to believe that you can categorically dismiss anyone who opposes your censorship-positive views by implying that the only basis for their arguments is a deranged sexual interest.

        2. I won’t completely disagree with your comment; I usually dislike censorship as well. There are a few people though, who have simply said they think the new outfits look better. Also you have to admit those outfits do look a bit skimpy. I’ve never seen a 13 or fifteen year old wear swimsuits that show that much. They look more sexual than innocent.

          1. But those are not the people I’m referring to as the censorship-positive crowd.
Like I already explained I like the new versions better too, so that’s not a point of contention here, I’m addressing specifically the people who continuously go on about how the censorship is a good thing and justify that position by crying pedophile while ignoring all other points that are being risen against censorship.

            1. Ok. I just wanted to point out that there are some who don’t use the age reason as their support of this. I don’t know anyone here well enough to know that they are consistantly pro-censorship. I do see a few though that just don’t want to see any other point of view.

      18. You guys kinda dropped the ball here, these pictures have just started circulating around 4chan starting earlier today and there is reason to believe it’s photoshopped. The original screenshots were far less zoomed out and if you looked at the reflection in the display you could see what looks like an old ceiling fan with crappy lighting and a wii u tablet that was not powered on. After I pointed this out in the original thread on 4chan the thread was deleted, immediately a new thread popped up with the same picture except poorly zoomed in like the pictures above. At least report this under rumors as you really shouldn’t be taking the word of neo-gaf or 4chan as fact.

      19. This is the type of behavior that leaves me dubious about the NX. Ratings exist for a reason Nintendo. Stop treating your consumers like they’re all 8 years old.

Censorship is always wrong, full stop. I’m reading that some people like the censored costumes and support the decision, but nobody would be forcing you to be wearing the original outfit to begin with, and if the new ones are so great, then they should have been added on top of everything else instead of a replacement of. They had to go out of their way to modify these clothes and remove the originals, regardless of what anyone thinks about the changes.

      20. oh my god you’re all arguing about a character’s alternate clothes. truth be told they probably would have censored even if she was older. but seriously, what is this? a fashion design game? it’s not relevant to the plot of the game at all. just deal with it and shut your butts.

        1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Yes because that’s the only thing people would be upset about because apparently everyone complaining is a sick, twisted pedophile. And you accuse me of spinning.

      21. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

What’s the point in changing their ages if you are just going to change the very reason their ages were changed? It’s fucking stupid & redundant, for lack of a better word if I’m not using the right word. There are plenty of 15 yr olds that look just like this girl & you can find them at every single public beach or pool in the freaking country. Hell! In every single part of the globe! If they truly want to cover their asses, just change her age to 16 & be done with it since the most common age of consent is actually 16. Don’t change her fucking age then change the very reason her age was changed in the first damn place.

More importantly, as I said in another line of comments, this game is for teenagers that should be more than capable of separating fantasy from reality unless they are stupid or mentally challenged. In which case, they shouldn’t be playing a game for teenagers any damn way. As for adults, same rules apply.

If this was a game rated E for Everyone, you people defending this censorship would then have every reason to defend it & many of us against censorship wouldn’t even be having these debates with you people.
