Here’s Today’s Nintendo Direct US Roundup

Nintendo debuted a new Nintendo Direct presentation today, revealing details about several new and upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. Some of the exciting news included the reveal that iconic video game character Cloud from FINAL FANTASY VII will be added as a playable DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Other notable announcements included the reveal of an HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii U console, a new Wii U bundle featuring Splatoon and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and news that the Pokémon games that started it all – Pokémon Red Version, Pokémon Blue Version and Pokémon Yellow Version – will launch with new wireless communication functionality in the Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo 3DS system on Feb. 27. “There’s never been a better time to join in on the fun with Nintendo,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “From new experiences like Xenoblade Chronicles X that you can enjoy this year to re-imagined favorites like The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon coming in 2016, we have you covered with games you’re sure to love.”

Some of the highlights revealed in the video include:

The game launches exclusively in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U on Nov. 19.
  • Mighty No. 9 from Deep Silver (Wii U / Nintendo 3DS): From Keiji Inafune, the creator of the Mega Man series, comes Mighty No. 9. • Project X Zone 2 from BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America, Inc. (Nintendo 3DS): Everyone’s favorite Capcom, SEGA and BANDAI NAMCO characters are crossing over once again in Project X Zone 2. Hundreds of hours of entertainment await in Terraria, launching in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in early 2016.

  1. Pretty disappointing, in terms of new announcements for the WiiU. The only interesting thing to me was Twilight Princess HD, but we already knew about that for a while now. Just like about everything else WiiU they talked about.
My personal highlight was Cloud joining Smash though, lmao. Most likely the only DLC I’ll consider buying, as well as the only amiibo I’ll ever consider.
Also, inb4 people going “FFVII REMAKE WIIU/NX CONFIRMED!!”

    1. Ah, and forgot to express my utter disappointment about the lack of new info on the new Zelda game. Was really hoping we’d finally see some more of it, and get a little bit of new info, even if not much.

      1. Meh… Overall, I’d give this direct a 5/10.
The wait for this was NOT worth it. Firstly…
No real memorial/segment for Iwata. ( IT didnt need to be sad)
Im borderline about TP HD, as it just looks like 420P HD. (hopefully due to pre-devment)
        No Zelda 2016 info.
The Smash DLC was cool. (Likely NOT a ballot character)
Star Fox is cool to see, but I wanted confirmation of online play.
Every thing else were things we knew about/dont care about or mediocre.

        1. I disagree. I thought it was a very good direct. Better than most honestly. It was better than E3. A lot of games I really cared about were confirmed, and a girl link in Zelda U is insane… Oh, and Cloud in Smash!? That’s huge. That’s just as big as the MegaMan reveal. I was so pumped when I saw that. I nearly shat my pants…

A lot of people must have missed the girl link in Zelda U, nobody is talking about it…

            1. Dude, go back and watch that Wii U footage! Seriously, am I the only one that caught that! Link sitting on peons had tits and long blonde hair. And a different face!

              GO BACK AND WATCH IT!

                  1. I remember Nintendo saying that they wouldnt rule out a female link being in the Zelda 2016 game, so now that Linkle is reality there is a huge chance she will make the cut.

                1. That picture of Link on Epona (was taking someone’s word for it that it wasn’t epona btw) looks like a female to me. No way you could ever convince me otherwise. Look at the close up picture. Link has an oblong face. Like a skinny oval. Now look at today’s picture. Her face is round. Very feminine, and totally different from the other.

If the Link in the trailer we saw today is indeed a Male Link, then it will officially be the biggest pussy looking Link I have ever seen in any Zelda game. And that’s including Tri-force hero’s dress wearing Link.

I’m hoping and praying that it’s a female Link. Not because I want to play with a girl, I would choose the male Link. But because I do not want my Link to resemble a female so closely. I would rather have the option of choosing between male and female.

Until Aonuma confirms this Link to be male, (I’m not talking about the older videos) no way you can convince me otherwise. I know what my eyes see, and thats a girl sitting on that horse.

        2. I know right? Kinda sad how they didn’t dedicate even just a couple of minutes to Iwata.
And I absolutely agree, it was not worth the wait. You’d think they would have some more interesting things up their sleeves, especially for the WiiU, while everyone is craving a new Direct. Was the perfect chance to make up for their terrible E3. But yea, I guess not.

      2. Did you not notice the girl link in Zelda U? That’s a revelation bro. That’s huge news in my opinion. It probably means that Zelda U will either have a character selection option, or maybe even a character creator! Holy shit! You must not be a Zelda fan if your not excited about that.

And second, this direct was far superior to E3 in every way. Dragon Quest games, a third fates game, FF Explorers,…. And oh, did I mention a fucking girl Link in ZeldaU? Awsome direct. 8/10

        1. Can’t tell if joking, or actually serious.
I agree it was better than E3 though. But that doesn’t mean much, because it really wasn’t hard to top that. Better than bad doesn’t necessarily mean good, might as well just mean less bad.

            1. I guess I just don’t care enough about the gender of my video game characters. But I do agree that the announcement of Cloud for Smash is pretty damn cool.
              Final Fantasy Explorers isn’t news.
DQ8 is a pleasant surprise I guess, but nothing mindblowing.
I don’t find the announcement of a third Fates part really all that impressive, I mean, we’re already getting two, not sure if a third one was really necessary. But that’s just me of course, I’m sure people who really are into FE are excited about it.

            2. I don’t think you saw what you think you saw… On the bright side, you can tell us all”told you so” when zelda U releases. Just ssve a link to this blog post so we don’t forget. ;)

        2. I saw you on the GameXplain videos saying all female Link stuff too.
It’s not a female Link. It’s already been confirmed long before this video came out. And there’s no obvious bust either. He looks exactly the same as he did in the original trailer.

However, I do see why you may think Link looks like a girl. He does appear to have feminine traits; primarily a rounder, softer face. But that doesn’t just suddenly mean Link is a female. There are guys out there who have these same traits themselves. It can happen. For those who like the idea of a gender-swapped Link, Linkle is in Hyrule Warriors: Legends for you.
Personally, I think gender-swapping is weird. But to each their own.

          1. Yea, pretty much everybody is telling me I’m wrong. But I know what I see. Like I told someone on Youtube, either I’m going to have to tell a hundred people I’m wrong, or a hundred people will have to admit I’m right. Time will tell, but honestly I’m sick of arguing about it..

            1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Japan’s got one of these fashion trends that involves looking as androgynous, partly male and partly female in appearance, as possible. So making Link look like a girl but actually be a guy is probably a nod to that Japanese trend. It’s basically part of Japan’s culture trying to be anonymous since many like their privacy. Hence why you see some people in Japan with face masks on. It’s not just a health thing for some people in Japan to use face masks.

    2. Also, imagine a Zack alternate costume for Cloud. Granted, it’s a long shot to expect it, as Zack isn’t nearly as iconic as Cloud and never appeared on Nintendo platforms, but it would be absolutely perfect. Plus, he has the Advent Children outfit too, and for Zack they’d technically only need to change his head. Ya know… Just saying…
      One can dream, right?

    3. Exactly. Still nothing significantly good for Wii U. Not now nor ever. The only thing that’s “decent” was Twilight Princess HD which 1. Was expected from leaks and 2. Only means that the next Zelda will definitely be an NX game.

      1. I’m not so sure about your second point there- don’t forget that TP itself was on Gamecube and a Wii launch title, perhaps Zelda U will follow suit. That’s not as bad as it being completely moved to NX forcing us to buy the console, now is it?

          1. Actually, I’m getting the wiiu version, and skipping the NX unless Nintendo can show me they give a shit about their original gamers.
No fucking way I’m getting sucked into another Nintendo console with a tricksy duel Zelda release.

      1. yeah, I hope it has more improvements, because games prices here is absurd, about 1/4 of my monthly payment, if a remake isnt that different from the original, i will not able to afford it.

        1. Even if Nintendo doesn’t make any changes to the level design or progression, the implementation of the gamepad makes it worth it, in my opinion.

I’m hoping for harder difficulty (won’t happen), a boss revamp (read: improvement) and better pacing at the beginning of the game (I’m confident they’ll do this somehow, since it’s the most universal problem with TP).

    1. Ditto!

I’m pumped for Hyrule Warriors, Zelda U/TP HD & Splatoon contents, but it still lacked a defining featuring. I desperately want GameCube VC/HD remakes. I’ve gone too long with Luigi’s Mansion and Super Mario Sunshine.

    2. The direct was exactly how I thought it would go. It was nice update on some games. SMTXFE my be a May, June, or August game. Lost Revers must not be ready to show me or will at a later time. Federation Force was not shown, so more information is needed there. There is a lot more Indie Games on the way. Those missing games mean not 1st Q 2016.

  2. I liked it 7/10. They made us wait but at least now we know and cunts can shut up about Zelda only coming to NX. Bluh bluh bluh. No, you’ll have to wait for your NX. The Wii U still deserves some love.

  3. Disappointed once more. We pretty much knew most of it. With the exception of the Pokemon games (Pokemon Picross? What-?).

Fairly dissapointed. Not Nintendo’s brightest year.

  4. Disappointed too, and for many reasons.

    > Twilight Princess HD looks the god damn same as the original, no HD what so ever, what’s the deal with that?
    > Oh boy 10 seconds of a lowly inspired scene for the new Zelda. Almost a year and a half after announcement and still no title, release date or anything that’d give us a god damn clue about what it even is about, mh? I see.
    > I really don’t give a fuck about Cloud, or Final Fantasy in general.
    > Or even Dragon Quest.
    > Speaking of which, one new character is nice and all, but what about that ballot? No?
    > We already knew all about the Pokémon news. They said they’d make more than Pokkén Tournament next year, but no word on that.
    > 10 trailers of games we already know about.
    > A few third-party games no one cares about.
    > Gold Megaman Amiibo. Need I say more?

Well, well Nintendo. Sorry, but to me this Direct is another fail.

    1. Zelda U might be shown at The Game Awards once more, and they’ll probably talk about the ballot in December’s Smash Event.

Honestly, people, they said that this Direct would “bring updates about upcoming games”. That’s all you should have expected, really.

The amount of people begging for Pokémon Z (for no good reason, might I add) on the stream was unreal. I don’t know what you in particular were expecting, but honestly, have realistic expectations next time.

      1. Geez I hope they won’t make a Pokémon Z. I’d rather they work on another region tbh.

But yeah, I kinda want to hope for the Game Awards to bring us some goods, but I’m just slowly losing patience and turning skeptical.

        1. Seconding that. Kalos can go fuck itself.

Zelda U is coming (although a dual release is all but confirmed at this point) and TPHD is Nintendo’s way to make up for the delays. Don’t worry, they’ll focus on it when it’s time.

        2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Too late for me. My patience was lost two months ago (got the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 bundle preordered & for layaway) & I’ve become skeptical of every bit of Nintendo news!

    2. Dude, the video you were watching was not in HD. So of course the HD footage of TP wont show up at all! That’s why it looks the same…

Some of you people make me wonder sometimes… Am I the only person with any damn sense in here?

Nobody else has picked up on the female link in Zelda U, even after I have told everyone about it…..

      1. The models are the god damn same, dude. Even without the HD, you can see they didn’t change a thing.

And no. Still no female Link, but I really welcome Linkle.

    3. This was for the up to the Q1 2016 even though some Qtr 2 games were released. It is not all the news for 2016. More directs will include that. They said what to expect when the direct was announced. Remaster is only a minor improvment of the game, it is not a remake. The third party games I do care for like fast racing neo and mighty no 9. The no one cares line do not work. Please only speak for yourself. thank you.

  5. I feel like I was the only one who highly enjoyed this.

People need to check their expectations before they go into this thing. Appreciate what we have and not that you didn’t get what you expected.

    1. What do we have for WiiU then? Right, basically nothing new.
People have every right to be disappointed, if they were waiting for something new for WiiU.

          1. Well… Pressed “send” by accident while typing, hah. Sorry for that.

What I was trying to say is, I do like TP a lot, and I’ll most likely buy it if it offers enough new stuff that justifies its price, but it really isn’t “new”. The WiiU needs anything but HD remakes right now, especially remakes of Wii games I can play on the WiiU anyway.

  6. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

The only good news was Cloud for Smash 4, a US release date for Dragon Quest VIII 3DS remake, Shadow Mewtwo playable in Pokkén Tournament, FAST Racing NEO release date, & a Bravely Second release date. Sadly, this was still bad as there were no new game announcements. Pokemon Picross doesn’t count because just like Metroid Prime: Federation Farce, no one fucking asked for it nor wanted it! I’m still on the fence about Twilight Princess HD because though it being in HD will be nice, Gamepad functions, & a nice Wolf Link amiibo, I still need a bit more info on it. Like maybe some changes to the fields because they were unbearably barren of enemies! Oh & it needs to draw out the horseback battles because they were too damn short since we only got 3 major horseback battles even though that was a major feature being hyped up at the time of it’s first release!

    1. I don’t think it was the best direct by any means, but absolutely not the disappointment everyone here claims it to be.

People should have just kept expectations low going in. When you let your expectations get too high, that’s when people get let down…

Here are the highlights for me.

      – Wolf Link Amiibo
      – FF Explorers release date/window plus Collectors Edition
      – Fire Emblem Fates Collectors edition with 3 versions for $70.00
      – Dragon Quest 7 and especially 8
      – Any new Zelda U footage is good, and the fact Links face is now rounder and looks like a girl has me really hyped (which btw nobody else has picked up on yet)
      – Cloud in Smash

That’s about it, but that’s a hell of a lot more than I was expecting. I was literally expecting nothing new to be announced…

      1. Wolf link Amiibo. That’s the only good I saw.
Also, I have to buy TP again. It’s my Zelda Addiction you see… Also, I’m a Wolf. So, no option.

    2. And get rid of whatever filter they used that made everything have a brownish, rust-like tinge. Fortunately, based on the comparison video, they have at least removed much of the blurring effect which I felt was another problem.

  7. Boy, people can’t be satisfied one way or another.

What, you guys expected them to announce 10 new games or something? They outright said it would be info on upcoming games that we knew about.

My gosh, seems a lot of Nintendo fans have become the impatient type.

    1. I seriously fail to see how the direct was not disappointing, in relation to WiiU announcements. And no, Nintendo did not say it was going to be about upcoming games we already knew about, they said it was going to be about upcoming games. Upcoming games might very well mean games we don’t know about yet. How come we got to see games we weren’t yet told that they were in development for the 3DS then? Right, because the WiiU is Nintendo’s unloved child that will always remain in the shadow of its older brother.
And just because people are disappointed about how the Direct turned out, doesn’t mean they were expecting 10 new games. 1 or maybe even 2 decent new games would have been absolutely great.
Can you really blame people for having turned impatient, when most of what Nintendo has been doing lately was anything but satisfying? The huge droughts between game releases, terrible E3 presentation, Zelda being delayed and still not a single bit of concrete information after all this time since it’s been revealed? Honestly, people have every right to be impatient by now.

    2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

      Everything Namie said.

If you’re tired of the impatient Nintendo fan, the same can be said for those of us impatient Nintendo fans about being tired of the white knight Nintendo fan defending the company’s lackluster lineup of games over the last 3 years & their apparent lack of concern for the fact the Wii U is a sinking ship. Oh wait. It’s making a measly little profit so some of you fools think that makes it a success? >.< Under 13 million consoles sold in 3 years is not a success. It's a long term failure. But Nintendo doesn't care. As long as their precious handheld & mobile crap sells in Japan, fuck the home console this gen for the rest of the world that's sick of Nintendo's lack of care for their home console fanbase. Whatever. Corporate slaves will always be just that: slaves to their corporate masters coming up with bullshit excuses & defenses. But hopefully this gen was a nice big fat wake up call to Nintendo to get them out of their little fantasy world as they'll stop listening to the small minority of happy, ignorant Nintendo fans.

    3. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3

Sorry (I really am) if I’m being too harsh towards you because it’s not just you but this is getting ridiculous people telling others to quit getting upset & just be happy with what we are getting. If what we are getting feels or seems like shit to us, we have every right to complain about it & not be satisfied.

  8. No expected and wanted Pokemon Z update/version, another random 3rd party character from FF (which Nintendo won’t see anymore) for Smash that nobody widely asked for, more Microtransaction mini-games, Twilight Princess HD (why when there’s a $20 or less Wii version that hasn’t been changed much) which is another big sign of the new Zelda being an NX port..like TP, Original PKMN games finally being in the VC..so fucking late in 3DS’s life while G/S/C/R/S/E/D/P/B/W is still missing and everything else is already shown but not cared for.

Still failing to deliver nothing big but more excuses to hype up idiot leftover fanboys.
