Here’s How Japanese Gamers Reacted To Cloud In Super Smash Bros

We were all a little shocked and surprised to see that Cloud from the Final Fantasy series is a newcomer in Super Smash Bros. There’s been a ton of amusing reaction videos posted onto YouTube, but what did the Japanese think to Cloud’s inclusion to the diverse roster? Well, the Legends of Localisation browsed Twitter and 2Chan to find out what a small sample of Japanese consumers thought!

  • Cloud doesn’t match Nintendo, shoulda gone with Bartz, though I doubt he’d be popular
  • If they’re gonna put Cloud in there, I think they should really put in popular characters from Famicom and Super Famicom games that were pillars of those systems.
  • Someone like Goemon, or Goemon, or Goemon…
  • Or maybe no kids these days know who Goemon is?
  • I’m SO happy the Advent Children outfit is in there
  • Should’ve waited to put him in the next game
  • Can’t wait for the FF7 remake!
  • At this point they’ll throw anything into Smash
  • Oh yeah, I NEED his amiibo
  • They should just make Smash like LoL where it’s free to play and you can pay to get more characters
  • Snake!
  • that’s all
  • His up-smash seemed really weird
  • Is this a hint that the FF7 remake’s gonna be on the Wii U too?
  • Honestly, all I can think is, “So?” In the end, they’re just trying to extend the life of the game by adding characters afterward.
  • Regardless of sales totals, if this is what we can expect from our games now, then the 3DS is done for.
  • Is there something wrong with extending the life of a game? I don’t see the problem in trying to let a game sell for a long time alongside new games that come and go.
  • Cloud dressed up like a girl would be adorable…
  • So what?
  • Sony fanboys gonna go crazy!!!
  • Please, Square-Enix! Put Geno in too!
  • Go back to PlayStation!
  • Cloud’s been on Nintendo systems before:
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (GBA)
    Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (DS)
    Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (3DS)
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (3DS)
    Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS)
  • Cecil would’ve been better
  • Looks like Link
  • Why now?
  • I loved FF7 so I’m glad that Cloud’s going to be in the game. But I guess nobody else here feels that way…
  • If Cloud’s in, Tifa can’t be far behind. Am I the only one who thinks that?
  • I’ve honestly never played a single Final Fantasy game
  • Way too many male characters. We need more female characters, it’s getting way too unbalanced!
  • Snake, Sonic, and Rockman were all on Nintendo systems at some point, so they make sense. But Cloud…?
  • Nintendo has finally broken its limit
  • I suspected that they were going crazy with these new characters… and yep, I was right!
  • It’s not THAT surprising – he was in two 3DS Theatrhythm games after all
  • I’m amazed this didn’t get leaked first
  • Between Pac-Man, Rockman, Sonic, Ryu, and Cloud, the game’s really gained an incredible “All-Stars” aspect
  • If they’re gonna add new characters, someone like Jibanyan or a squid would’ve been a more exciting choice, I think. But FF7 is REALLY popular with foreigners, so it’s probably an attempt to appeal to them.
  • Square-Enix must be hurting financially
  • I think there are plenty of Wii U and 3DS gamers who’ve played FF7 before.
  • As a fan, I also love that the Advent Children outfit is an option. They really get it.
  • Smash’s popularity aside, I’m sure there are people who will be glad that Cloud’s going to be in it.
  • As always, the Internet filth of Japan gives a coldhearted response.
  • You should at least accept that Cloud’s in the game mostly for foreign gamers. The fact he’s in the game shows that your opinions mean almost nothing anyway.
  • I wish they’d put FF7 and Saga Frontier on the Virtual Console… but I guess that’s never gonna happen
  • He represents their betrayal of Nintendo though
  • I opened the article, hoping to just take a quick peek… but man, nothing beats FF7’s music!
  • The music and the sample footage got me pumped up! I can’t wait to buy it now!
  • Is Sephiroth in the works?
  • I won’t play him if his controls are bad
  • People still care about Cloud that much? He’s old news to me.

    1. Cloud being in Smash could be a strong indicator that the Final Fantasy VII remake is coming to the NX. If this is the case then I’m all for it but if it isn’t then he definitely doesn’t belong

      1. Cloud joining Smash being an indicator for the FFVII remake coming to NX seems pretty far-fetched, honestly.
I just believe it’s silly to think they would put Cloud in Smash just to give a hint for a game that will be in development for a couple of years coming to a console that’s also (most likely) still more than a year away from releasing.
I’m not saying it’s impossible for the remake making its way to the NX, but not gonna lie, it seems pretty unlikely to me personally.

        1. Why would it seem unlikely to you? Have you seen the support that Square Enix has already announced for the NX or is planning while the NX hasn’t even been shown yet in any form? It isn’t like the Final Fantasy VII remake is a PS4 only title, it’s only coming to that platform first so anything is possible. If Kingdom Hearts 3 gets announced for the NX then it’s a pretty much a lock for the Final Fantasy VII remake to come eventually

          1. lmao, sorry, but that’s a lot of wishful thinking right there.
Square Enix never concretely announced support for the WiiU, if I’m not mistaken. I do know they talked about how they’re considering to develop for it, but that really doesn’t hold much of a meaning, as that’s probably the most standard answer you can get from a developer when asking them what they think about an upcoming system. If you take that as “announcing support”, by all means, go for it, but prepare yourself for the disappointment you’ll go through when things don’t turn out as you expected them to. I’ll remind you about all the support 3rd-parties “announced” before the launch of the WiiU – we can clearly see how that turned out.
And you’re right, the FFVII isn’t PS4 only – knowing how “fast” Square Enix tends to be with the development of Final Fantasy games, they might make it in time to release it on the PS5 as well, along the PS4 version. :)
And you’re talking like it’s only a matter of time until Square Enix announced KH3 for the NX. There is no indication whatsoever that the game is in development for another console other than PS4 and XB1; on the contrary, they have confirmed it’s coming to those two only. Of course they might change plans, or maybe they just don’t want to talk about it before Nintendo actually tell us what it is, but yea, we’ll have to see about it, not sure how to think about it. However, I don’t see how confirming KH3 for the NX would “lock” the FFVII remake for it too. I mean, KH3 is confirmed for the XB1, but is the FFVII remake locked for it? Not really.

            1. First off, they confirmed and said that a DragonQuest X remake and DragonQuest XI was coming for the NX and then they later backtracked their statement (most likely because they’re under strict NDA from Nintendo) by saying it was ” under consideration ” and on top of that they’re even talking about porting Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn to the NX once they get more info about the system. Nobody confirms something at a press conference and then later say they’re only considering doing so unless someone told them not to mention it in the first place. And no I don’t recall any major 3rd party companies annoucing any major titles for the Wii U when it was only called ” Project Café “. And like I said Square Enix never ruled out any addtional platforms for the Final Fantasy VII remake to come to so please stop being close-minded for once

              1. If you can’t recall any 3rd-parties confirming their support for the WiiU prior its release, you either have a bad memory, or you just didn’t do enough research. It’s a generally known fact that many 3rd-parties said they would support the WiiU but very obviously jumped ship after it came out.

And I don’t know, but as long Square Enix (or any other developer, for that matter) doesn’t reveal any particular infortmation about the NX itself, I don’t see why Nintendo would have anything against them simply stating they’re working on games for the platform, without giving any further details. Telling the public they have games in development for Nintendo’s upcoming console would do nothing but raise expectations for the system – would Nintendo really be against that? But yea, I don’t have enough knowledge about how companies handle that kinda business, such as what they need to keep secret about an unreleased product, to make a reliable statement about it, so it’s just my personal thoughts on the matter.

And again, saying they might port FFXV: RR to the NX is also nothing but consideration and evaluating possibilities; it’s surely possible, but in no way a guarantee. Not much of a difference from any other developer saying they’re looking into an upcoming platform.

And lastly, I never said the FFVII remake wasn’t in consideration for any other platforms than PS4, so I’m not sure what exactly you’re talking about. The PS5 thing was just a joke (and, not gonna lie, partly wishful thinking, hah) if you’re referring to that, but me choosing to give that one as an example doesn’t mean I rule it out for any other platform. Personally, I think PC has a fairly high chance of getting the game after Playstation, considering the original one was ported to PC too – twice.

      1. No, the people who are happy about every character no matter who it is, when they chose to ignore the obvious facts when they are blinded by the fact they are either a Cloud fanboy or Final Fantasy fanboy.

        1. Uh. No. I called no one fanboys. I called people haters. Not exactly an insult. It’s what they are. They hate that Cloud is in, ergo they are haters. I didn’t say they were morons or stupid. And there is no reason for people to hate. The ballot clearly said anyone video game character. I don’t know if Cloud is the actual ballot winner, but whoever is can be ANY character. All of this “vote was never in a Nintendo console” stuff doesn’t matter. I voted for K. Rool myself. But Cloud is an awesome selection a well. I get that other people may not like it, but I do. There are many characters that people were voting for that I don’t think deserve it, so I am glad for Cloud.

    2. He has appeared in multiple games on Nintendo systems, which is the biggest criteria for appearing in Smash.
Plus, Sakurai did state a while back that everything from this point is going to be fan service stuff.

Also, FFVII was originally going to be on the N64 until Nintendo decided to stick with cartridges, so it’s not like Cloud’s intro game had no connection at all.

I’m not even a fan of FFVII. Never played it in my life.

But I’m glad he’s in, because it’s SMART MARKETING, and because he doesn’t look like a slap-dash clone of other sword fighters in the game.

There’s also the chance that this inclusion signals stronger ties to Square-Enix, which would mean good things for the NX’s line-up if it ends up being true.

You don’t have to be a fanboy of Cloud to appreciate the significance of the announcement.

      1. Well, some of his moves actually seemed to be similar to Ike’s. I personally don’t mind at all though, I love Ike, so even if I didn’t have much of an interest in FFVII, I’d still be stoked. But since I am indeed a huge fan of FFVII, I’m super excited about the whole thing.

That being said, I agree with all the other points you mentioned, the last sentence sums up the situation pretty well.

    3. He belongs as much as any third party character that could have been voted for, and far more than people like splatoon or shovel knight sorry kid. Guess what fanboy, we win, he’s in, so haha.

      1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

“I don’t like Cloud’s emo attitude! He should lighten up & forget the fact he has no memory, loses Aerith to Sephiroth, regains his memories & remembers his friend Zack was murdered, has a company wanting to kill him along with Sephiroth’s followers, blah, blah blah!” You mean that vocal minority? lol Well guess what, haters! I hate your filthy attitude towards a character that has nothing but shit happen to him so deserves to be a little fucking depressed! Get over your blind hate for emo people that usually have a reason to be upset and/or depressed! “But there are people that have it much worse!” So fucking what!? That doesn’t make their personal issues any less troublesome, ya dick!

*huff, puff, sigh* Okay… I’m good now… Rant over… lol

      2. Nintendo Magistrate: Lance Bulmer

i like ff7 not a guy who orgasams at the sheer mention off ff7 im more a ff9 player myself i hated ff8 as squall bored me to death. I’m still hoping for Snake to return with Shantae & Shovel Knight

  1. My favourite thing about the “Make it like LoL” comment is that we already pay to get more characters, it just isn’t f2p…..that being said, I could see future installments with much bigger chunks of microtransactions looking at Nintendo’s business plans now going forward.

Though I have to admit, I was expecting a little more love for Cloud from over there, but it seems the comments are generally exactly the same. Huh.

    1. Yeah, I was super confused about what this dude was trying to say.

I mean, if the sales totals are good, then how the hell is it done for? There is no “regardless of”. If they’re good, it’s here to stay, and the 3DS sales totals are pretty good. The 3DS has already been a success. It’s too late for it to be “done for”.
I want whatever this guy is taking.

    1. Yeah they are just as bad if not worst in some cases. Japanese people, nerds especially are really shy in real life but on the internet they turn into total pig dicks. Believe me I’ve been there 4 times. I like Japan tho, but the nerd culture in all countries is shit.

      1. I don’t think the “nerds”, just those who prefer to spew their frustation where they feel that they won’t get any repercussion from it, in other words: the cowards and thrash of society as a whole.

I say this because not all the nerds (or shy people in general) are that way and I don’t want to insult them by comparing them with that poisonous people, I really hope this doesn’t get misunderstood.

      2. It’s just the pre-teen kids. If you haven’t noticed, most comment sections are dominated by them. People who are more matured generally don’t act like idiots… Some do, but most don’t..

      1. How so? Cloud wasn’t on a Nintendo console because of the format that Nintendo chose to use. It’s would’ve been a financial suicide to use multiple cartridges and keep the cost low, or even worse. Charge even more and send the game out to die.

The way I look at it, is Square made the smarter move by moving it to the PS1 wich held a lot more data than a N64 cartridge.

        1. The memory debate always gets way more importance than it should.

When Capcom fitted RE2 (both discs) in a single N64 cartridge, you knew the rest of the studios were being incompetent, lazy or both.

          1. I guess that could attribute to it, but the size of RE2 isnt comparable to FF7. As well all know FF7 is at the very least 1.4GB, RE2 (both PS1 game discs) are less than 800mb. The N64 version of RE2 also has a feature cut out (battle mode) and the FMV arent exactly pretty to look at compared to the PS1 version, but they somehow manage to get it down to 62mb-63mb. Which is astounding, remarkable compression, but we have to remember that Square was adamant about what they were trying to accomplish with their FMV, and how much of an issue it was for them to keep them as nice as they did.

You do have a point though, it comes down to incompetence and laziness but for Square it was another thing that kept them away from compressing the game to hell. they went with what they wanted, which was to keep the FMV transition to gameplay as smooth and unnoticeable as possible, and it paid it for them.

            1. Was RE2 really that small? I recall it being larger. Those pre-rendered backgrounds are probably very light, though.

You have a point with the FMV cutscenes, Square really pushed them as the next big thing, both in FFVII and in re-releases. To sacrifice their quality by compressing them was probably a big deal. Kind of ironic seeing how dated they are nowadays.

              1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

I’m glad Square Enix ditched Nintendo so they could make sure the difference in graphics between cutscenes & gameplay was not very different from each other. If not for that, many developers these days would still be using CGI cutscenes & we wouldn’t have games where our customized character or customized outfit we make our character wear is shown in cutscenes. It irked me to no end when Nintendo & Koei Tecmo used CGI for certain cutscenes for Hyrule Warriors instead of using the in-game engine’s graphics for them so the alternate outfit we were wearing would show up in the cutscene.

                1. It does seem out of place doesn’t it. It was just a matter of time before anyone did it, but im glad FF7 was the game that made it possible. Such a great game, it looks dated now, but its still an amazing game.

              2. Yeah, both RE2 discs add up to a little over 700mb, which is why they’re in 2 discs. Sadly, that was turning point with Square. I still love the games all the way up to IX, but yeah, after 7, all they seem to care was about pushing the graphical prowess of a console. lol tell me about it, realistic looking graphics are the only type of art that dates really badly in gaming.

        2. There were a couple of other reasons why Square switched to Sony, though. Like Nintendo having restrictions for third-parties so their games couldn’t be more popular than Nintendo’s own franchises.

          1. See that I didnt know, I know Nintendo restricted Companies from putting out more than a number of games per year, which is why Konami developed under 2 different names just so they could publish twice as many games a year.

      2. Nope nintendrone, YOU’RE ignoring the fact that Nintendo chose to go cartridge instead of cd like Sony which is why square went with Sony. The cut scenes they had and music wouldn’t have been possible on 64. Fact. Deal. Check mate.

      3. Nope nintendrone, YOU’RE ignoring the fact that Nintendo chose to go cartridge instead of cd like Sony which is why square went with Sony. The cut scenes they had and music wouldn’t have been possible on 64. Fact. Deal. Check mate.

  2. Sick of seeing people, especially the misinformed ones, hating on Cloud being in Smash. If you don’t want him, don’t fucking buy him (although a lot of people will whether they like him or not because it is Smash Bros).
“He hasn’t even been in a Nintendo game though!” EERRRR – WRONG
Cloud has actually been in 4 games on Nintendo consoles so far, being Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the GBA, Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded for the DS, and both Theatrhythm games on 3DS. He is also going to feature in the upcoming Final Fantasy Explorers on 3DS. Besides this, Final Fantasy 1-6, as well as a lot of other spin offs, have featured on Nintendo consoles, along with numerous other IPs and Nintendo collaborations from Square. Their poster boy therefore makes a fair bit of sense.
    “Not another anime character!”
He’s not an anime character. He is drawn in the anime style, but because he is a Japanese character. Most, if not all, Japanese characters are anime styled, but he isn’t an actual anime character. Cloud is a game character. He originates from video games. It’s funny how half of these idiots are the ones who are demanding Goku, who actually is a manga/anime character.
    “Not another sword fighter!”
Implying all sword fighters play the same. Nope. Okay, we have a couple of pairs of similar ones, like Link and Toon Link, or Marth and Lucina. However, don’t we have that with other types of fighter? Fox and Falco. Captain Falcon and Ganondorf.
“Wow. If Cloud can get in, anyone can!”
Nope. As I have said earlier, there are a good few reasons as to why Cloud works, and someone like Goku wouldn’t.
“THE HOPE FOR SORA IS STILL ALIVE!!!”
I wish this was true. I would love to see Sora in Smash Bros. However, Square doesn’t own Sora; Disney does. Disney owns ALL original characters in Kingdom Hearts from Sora to Xehanort. Unfortunately, this probably means we won’t see Sora in Smash any time soon, despite the money they would probably make from it. They wouldn’t even let Square, their partners in Kingdom Hearts, use him for Dissidia 012. They barely use him outside of Kingdom Hearts themselves anyway. His Keyblade is in Disney Infinity, but he isn’t.
    “Who’s Cloud?” “What’s Final Fantasy?”
Okay, I understand that you’re a bit young. Look up Final Fantasy VII on Steam, and go have yourself a grand old time.
YOU ON THE OTHER HAND!! Come here fuckboy. You’re the one who voted Master Chief, aren’t you? GO ON, GET OUTTA HERE!!!

      1. Apparently it DOES.
As does the original being intended for the N64.

Otherwise that was just a lucid dream that hasn’t quite ended yet.

Quit being salty and calling others “fanboys” over this; he’s in whether you love or hate him, and there were enough reasons besides popularity for him to be included.
Otherwise he would not be in.

      1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Actually, it just means Sora doesn’t have to be tied to solely Final Fantasy characters in the future.

          1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Why? Nothing wrong with Disney. They are better than Nintendo a lot of times, that’s for sure.

  3. With each passing day I think of more fitting options, even from the FF series. I guess I’ll buy Cloud for completion sake, but not because I like him.
Honestly, I would have said “fuck it” and put a moogle on the damn game.

  4. While a FF remake would definitely be welcomed on Wii U. I don’t see a proper version of one coming to Wii U. Now the NX is a different story. It would be nice to see some support from them though.

  5. I don’t get the hate, the more characters the better for me.
Still, they get all these awesome things that we don’t and they are crying about Cloud being in smash…
For the love of god, if you don’t want a character who is DLC or some maps for DLC then don’t buy them. You are not forced into doing it and you don’t need them to play Smash…
This is not a game that you are required to buy if you want to progress into the story or finish the game (I am looking at you Crapcom).

  6. I feel like there were more deserving characters, purely because Cloud isn’t a Nintendo character. It’s really, really stupid to put in a non-Nintendo character. Maybe they should try for Nathan Drake or Ratchet next.

      1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Wrong about Shulk. Monolith Soft was fully bought & owned by Nintendo when they started working on Xenoblade Chronicles so that game is 100% 1st party, making Shulk 1st party.

      2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Okay. My bad. The game started development back when Bandai Namco still owned Monolith Soft back in 2005. But 2 years later, in 2007, Bandai Namco sold 80% of their 96% of stock of Monolith Soft to Nintendo, and would later sell the remaining stock, I’m assuming that same year. This also included any projects Monolith Soft was working on at the time so Xenoblade Chronicles became Nintendo 1st party along with the company.

Point is, it’s Nintendo 1st party because Nintendo 100% owns the developer & they published the game themselves, as well. No other 3rd party developers or publishers have their name tied to Xenoblade Chronicles.

        1. Nintendo didn’t actually create Shulk though correct? If so then he’s not a Nintendo-CREATED character 😋 either way I listed enough non-Nintendo characters for my point to be relevant lol. Not trying to argue your point by the way lol.

          1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Since Monolith Soft is 100% owned by Nintendo, making them a 1st party development team, & only Nintendo and Monolith Soft worked on Xenoblade Chronicles, Shulk is 100% 1st party Nintendo character since Monolith Soft is pretty much Nintendo now. Just like how Marvel & Star Wars is now Disney 1st party products. But yeah, minus Shulk who is Nintendo 1st party, you don’t need Shulk to make your point since the others are more than enough. >.<

          2. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Sorry if I’m being too adamant about this. >..<

            1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Again!? Fucking WordPress! Quit cutting off a good chunk of my god damn comment! ARGH!!!

~My inner Nintendo fan just likes the idea of reminding people that Monolith Soft is now 100% owned by Nintendo, making them 1st party. *goes off topic* Ugh! Tomorrow night needs to get here fast! I want to eat pizza while watching WWE Survivor Series on the WWE Network on my PlayStation 4 for only…. *builds up suspense* … $9.99! $9.99! $9.99! >.<

  7. Sakurai: “But I think I can say generally that there won’t be a trend of adding a lot of third-party characters. You can sort of think of Mega Man as being the special case.”

That’s the complete opposite of what you’re doing right now, lol.

    1. Sakurai’s BEEN doing that, even before Sm4sh was far into development. He’s said not to expect much DLC, there won’t be many clone characters, etc.

In fact, I’m not putting it past him to treat the Ballot like a joke and decide to add only characters he wants, regardless of if they had millions of votes or not even one.

“I have seen from the Ballot that King K. Rool and Krystal are the two most popular contenders. Well, I don’t like them and think they would be wastes of character slots. So instead, I’ll add be adding Excellus from FE Awakening, Rick from Kirby, and a Monoeye from Kid Icarus Uprising. The possibilities with them are endless!”

      1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Which is why everyone taking Sakurai’s words about Ridley at face value & use Sakurai’s words as irrefutable proof that Ridley won’t be in Smash as a playable character because he’s “too big” are suckers. He always says some bullshit reason why he won’t do this or that but then he later does it anyway.

  8. Damn. What a bunch of whiny entitled brats. There are over 50 characters now, yet people complain when ANY character they don’t like is added. That’s unbelievable. I’d hate to have that kind of attitude. And I’d hate to be Sakurai, reading responses from such a childish fanbase. Grow up, Smash fans – you’re not gonna get everything you want!

And don’t give me that “but we gotta complain because blah blah blah” bullshit. There ARE people excited for Cloud – you aren’t the center of the fucking universe.

    1. Can we just add in the fact that they don’t need to buy him either. It’s fine if they don’t like the idea, they have the right to express that. Still, there’s a point where you need to relax.

    2. Nintendo Magistrate: Lance Bulmer

best way to shut the japs up is to put godzilla and they will run and cower like a load of cunts! then unstead of them being dick they’d be screaming Run it Godzirra!

This comment has racism written all over it. First using the term japs, throwing Godzilla into the comment, & then not even using the Japanese name for Godzilla so you can make fun of the lack of the letter L in their alphabet. Oh & the Japanese name is Gojira, not Godzilla.

  9. “We want Cloud in Smash.” *Get’s Cloud in Smash* “This is ridiculous, Cloud shouldn’t be in Smash.” Just proves, that even if a company gives the fans what they want, the fans will STILL act like whiny bitches.

    1. Because the fans are a hive-mind with a single collective opinion on everything, of course.

I personally never asked for Cloud. Ever. I’m opposed to 3rd party characters making it into the game. I’m a huge Street Fighter fan and I didn’t like Ryu’s incursion.

You have to understand that the Smash fanbase is gigantic and the crossover nature of the game draws in a lot of different mentalities. To think that people make a 180 when they get what they want is completely backwards.

      1. Hive-mind is exactly the term I use for Nintendo fanboys. I can’t stand them on some of the Facebook amiibo pages it’s so annoying they all join together and say play nice but have no problem joining together against anyone who says something bad about Nintendo or its games. People on there actually defend aninal crossing festival or whatever the thing is that just came out on wii u. First they say it isn’t as fun as they expected, then when I say I’m not surprised by that, they come back and say “well, it was still fun and I think I got my money’s worth because of the amiibo bundle that came with it!”

          1. Lol it’s a good source of amiibo info, other than that I use it for friends only, I don’t have a thousand friends like some people. But yea social media in general is whatever, just a time killer for me at work.

  10. “They should just make Smash like LoL where it’s free to play and you can pay to get more characters”

Well that came out of nowhere…

  12. Out of all DLC characters added to Smash Bros., Cloud is the dumbest imo. Because I don’t care about Final Fantasy. In fact, the Final Fantasy characters is what I had issues with in Kingdom Hearts. They bore me. They’re just nobody’s to me. They caused me to not care as much about Kingdom Hearts as I could have.

    1. I’d say Roy would be the dumbest, but that’s just IMO.
I mean, Marth, Ike, Lucina and Robin/FemRobin are all in there already; Roy just felt like overkill.XD

If I had to choose an alternate for dumbest, though, it’d be either Duck Hunt or the return of Mr. Game&Watch. [I hate that stupid 8 bit shadow puppet…]

  13. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Now we just need a playable Ridley to go right along with Cloud & then the circle of pissing off naysayers will be complete!

  14. That moment when Crash Bandicoot is announced for Smash Bros in December. lol Hey, at least he has actually starred in several games with his name on different Nintendo platforms.

        1. Activision could make up for cod, sky landers, and everything else they done wrong if they would just make a new Vigilante 8, and give us the original two as HD remakes with online for all systems.

      1. Well, Snake’s creator had been begging Sakurai to include him since before Melee; Snake missed Melee only because it was too far along in development when he asked so he was saved for Brawl instead. So, I think it’s mostly his doing as to why Snake made it as the first 3rd-party Smash fighter, and that’s a title he’ll have forever now.

  15. How many folks here are in the middle? I know I am. I don’t know Cloud as a character well. I know he’s the iconic poster boy representing the FF franchise but that’s about it, so I don’t have any particular attachment to root this character and I wouldn’t care if he’s removed (which he won’t be – Sakurai’s decision is final) for the sake of a more fitting character (one with history on Nintendo’s consoles). That said, I also welcome any new sword fighters. It’s the one role I never get tired of, lol.

  16. Shulk, Cloud and Ryu are the weirdest choices to put in. Pac-Man was kinda off, but seeing him in the game now, he actually really works. I felt the same way about Dunk Hunt. Shulk may be Nintendo property, which is why I’m okay with him being in, but Xenoblade doesn’t really stand out AS a Nintendo IP. Now, I know there are people out there saying ‘If Cloud was Nintendo everyone would be for it’. And I partially agree. I’d feel the same way about Cloud I do about Shulk… IF he was Nintendo property. I love Cloud as a character, but you can not tell me he fits in Smash with a straight face. Now you might be saying ‘But there’s so many Fire Emblem characters!’ And yes. Fire Emblem’s characters are kind of a strange addition. But they’ve been around since Melee AND they’re Nintendo property. Cloud doesn’t fit in, isn’t a Nintendo IP, and hasn’t been around. Literally the only thing he has going for him is popularity. Shaky foundations to stand on, my friend. Oh, and as for Ryu? I don’t really like him being in, but he’s the same case as Snake. He has had a main series game on a Nintendo platform, which is the only reason I’m okay with him being in.

    1. Just for the sake of informing:

Cloud has had multiple appearances in games on Nintendo systems, and FFVII was originally going to be on the N64.
He’s “been around” Nintendo quite a bit more than people think, so he’s not exactly ill-fitting.

  17. Reading your opinion on Shulk and Fire Emblem characters, it seems to me you just don’t like humanoid characters. Or maybe it’s because they all are ‘anime swordsmen’.

In my opinion, they fit as much as anyone else. Fire Emblem is one of the oldest series too, only people that haven’t played the games think they don’t belong.

    1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

It’s probably the anime swordsman thing since Link, Mario, & a few others are also humanoid yet he didn’t mention them.

      1. I’m inclining towards that option. I guess I should have said ‘realistic proportions’ instead of ‘humanoid’, since I didn’t have in mind Mario and the like when I typed that.
