The Game Awards 2015 is taking place tomorrow in LA and there will be a number of special guests including Shaq, Mark Hamill and also Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime. We have no idea what Nintendo is planning to present to the audience but a brand new trailer/teaser for The Legend of Zelda Wii U certainly wouldn’t go amiss! What are you hoping to see from Nintendo at the Game Awards 2015?

When he was a guest last year Nintendo stole the show at the VGAs but I do see your point because the year before that when he was a guest they only showed Cranky Kong as a playable character in Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Hopefully Nintendo does have some surprises in store for us because Lord knows they can’t afford anymore disappointments. I’m at least expecting to see the Smash Ballot results but anything else like maybe a new teaser trailer for a future NX title (without them actually saying it’s a NX title of course) would be a huge bonus
Anything Smash related will be shown at its own dedicated final direct. It’s either Zelda, Star Fox or something new.
The Cranky Kong reveal is one reason. And with Nintendo these days, I feel more comfortable going in with low expectations. That way if they show garbage I am not disappointed. If they show stuff I find awesome, then I am pleasantly surprised. Whereas I used to go in with high expectations and Nintendo would constantly disappoint me. At least since the Wii era. Before that Nintendo mostly did things I loved. Now, not so much.
Aaaand now I definitely won’t be watching. This guy is dragging NoA to Hell with all the censorship and telling us consumers what we want and what we don’t and telling us “transformation is good.”

Nintendo is the tipical old school japanese company: very conservative, only the headquarters in Kyoto decides about games, nobody else. Reggie and Shibata have very important positions but they can just passively get what NoJ decides about which game develop and how…
I agree on how Nintendo is organized administrative wise. But let’s pick the XCX’s censorship case. Just one case:
For sure it was NoA which requested the lack of the breast slider for female characters on it in order to avoid feminazis and SJW complaints. This in fact corroborates your point which states that Reggie has a role in the strategic process.
What drives me crazy is the fact that NoA is always against the fans’ interests. And what about the lies NoA — through Reggie — usually tells? There is a truckload of them only this generation, and I won’t list them because they are notorious.
This is all lame. NoA is like Pinocchio, and think all of us are stupid brainless people.
On this topic I agree with you, not everything is NoA fault but it has several problems and f***ked up a lot in the past, sorry to say this but here in Europe, I think, we have a better treatment from NoE, not perfect, but a little better.
No apologies needed! Unlike Reggie, Shibata is a low-profile, very smart and competent guy. NoE are sure eons ahead of NoA.
Reggie is in control of deciding to localize a game for North America though, and he fails miserably at that, even IF we get something we want (Fatal Frame) He makes it Digital only.
Yeah but Reggie is not a CEO he’s a COO and besides the board of Nintendo always has the final say. A prime example, did you know that the late Satoru Iwata wanted to put universal voice chat in the Wii U but was overruled by the board? I know sometimes Reggie can be a bit naive but you can’t blame him for everything that goes wrong at Nintendo Of America.

I blame Reggie whenever we have a different treatment of that from NoJ and NoE — NoA is clearly the worst Nintendo branch. The localization issues and the NA Club Nintendo are good examples of how unimportant we look, despite being the biggest Nintendo market.
Also, I remember of Dan Adelman and Chris Pranger… NoA handled those situations pretty badly.
I’m fed up with all the lies and how NoA is able to defend their BS like they were the most valuable ones of the universe.
It’s his job to do that. That is what they do. Sit down and talk with people from the Playstation branch, Microsoft branch, or out of the industry with head people from HP, Samsung, LG, or Apple. Would you want someone to speak bad about your company publicly? If you would, then that’s okay too because people have different ideas. There is no real right or wrong way about it.
If you analyze the big picture… NoA never adresses the fans’ claims. C’mon, fanservice is pretty important no any business.

There have been plenty of articles on this very site where he defends the name New Nintendo 3DS and explains that “having the standard AND XL New 3DS systems would confuse consumers.” I’ve been looking for it but my search terms are either off or it’s buried. You want answers, look for yourself.
As for the censorship, I have no concrete proof it’s his doing, but think about it: he’s the president of NoA, just about everything in games localized here has to go through him, so who says it’s NOT him?
NoA should be ashamed of themselves. But, in reality, they think they are doing good!

Do you even know how things work at Nintendo? Although Nintendo Of America is the bigger money maker in terms platform sales and even in some software sales, them and Nintendo Of Europe are only supporting international branches of Nintendo while the main branch has always been Nintendo Of Japan, where ALL of the decisions are made for ALL of the branches. If you want to blame anyone for that god awful Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival blame NOJ not NOA because last I heard Nd Cube is a Japanese Nintendo owned subsidiary who developed the game

He once said in an article about why the standard model New 3DS wasn’t coming to North America was because consumers would be overwhelmed by the choice and that having the options might confuse us.

Why do some people take things so personal? When the media was saying consumers are confused by the Wii U name, were you upset by that? When a developer say people not interested in our games so we won’t make a sequel or won’t put it on certain console, does this make you upset? It is video games that you purchase for entertainment. Don’t like the choices then don’t buy the product. Sure there is some gray area, don’t like certain decisions or choices, a person can always right to a company and let them know. Yes it makes a difference for a lot of companies.
If you’re a NA consumer, so are your family and relatives, and do not feel disrespected by lies… Well… Can you just say that he respects you guys?

I’m going to watch it to see how much utter bull this guy comes out with. For years fans having been going on how much they like him. The guy is a politician, talks utter rubbish and is an absolute cretin with absolutely no backbone.
Nintendo are currently a decent football team but doing badly because of management. Something internally really needs to change. Either way, they are in massive trouble.
I’ve owned my WiiU for 2 months and I absolutely hate it. It does nothing for me. 1 year ago was the perfect time to do a ‘slim’ version with a cheaper price bracket. Within 2 weeks I went back to my 360.
There are good titles for it. It is just a matter of digging a bit.
I hope you find fun through your Wii U someday, but I know how frustrating is to deal with Nintendo’s mismanagement.

What do you hate about it? Believe me, I’m mostly done with it, but I had some good times, and X, Zelda U snd Starfox – I plan on having a few more before Nintendo handheld only.

Wow, about 2 years ago i was getting my head bit off by almost everyone on here for saying that Reggie should get fired from NoA. Now it seems like im not so much alone anymore. :’) brings a tear to my eye.

It is hard for me to say someone should be fired when I don’t work for them or work around them. I don’t know what goes on in Redmond but if there is some people that don’t like the way NOA is handling things wouldn’t you want everyone there fired?
