Here’s The Game Awards’ Tribute To The Late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata

A fitting tribute to the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was made during The Game Awards 2015 last night in the form of a slideshow. It was followed by a heartfelt presentation by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, who gave a four-minute speech explaining why he strongly believes Iwata was a truly unique person in every single way. Iwata passed away earlier this year due to complications with a tumor in his bile duct.

  1. Everybody get your asses on the feel train, your tears are its fuel, Iwata is its purpose, we are its passangers.

R.I.P. Iwata, I will seriously never forget you no matter how long I live.

  2. This was a nice speech, which I was actually wondering ever since Iwata passed away why nobody at Nintendo was saying much about. Maybe it was because it was too sad, and they needed time to process what happened, and be able to talk about it without crying.

With that said………..was this the ONLY Nintendo-related thing that was at the Game Awards? Because that really SUCKS if Nintendo didn’t reveal any big secrets, or reveal anything about the new Zelda Wii U.

You just keep digging that whole, don’t you? Another thing you have in common with eminem123! Spamming on almost every single MNN article? Check! Having a defeatist attitude telling people why bother getting upset & voicing their dislike for what Nintendo is doing because you’ve given up trying to change something for the better? Check! Telling people to move on from the death of someone when some clearly aren’t ready yet? Check! No punctuation? Check! Has the name of a famous person with 3 numbers at the end of it? Double check! Just missing numbering your post & resorting to calling people “retards.” Meh. Whether you’re eminem123! or not doesn’t really matter. Just me giving into my habit of theorizing.

      1. I don’t know why you keep comparing me to him but OK keep falsely accusing and no I don’t post on every article just some and no I said you can do whatever you want but you should do it directly to Nintendo and not only on a websites comment section lol if I was having problems with something I would let the company know and like I said for xcx the book slider and other censorship is extremely small and doesn’t affect me at all I am too hype for the game and of course once again Nintendo shouldn’t be censoring anything but guess what they did it so o well and yeah we have acknowledged Iwata a lot so it is time to move on and focus on the future is that a problem or what and OK I had to add numbers to the end of the name and lol I just wanted to make a quick name especially someone that I have read about and that is my fitness goal which I will be able to try to achieve fully a few years from now and leave me alone I have to go get ready to get my Zeno blade chronicles X day one

  3. Don’t remind me, I’m gonna jab a sharp object into my ears if I have to hear that Pearl Jam song again. Seriously, who thought that was a fitting song? Felt so out of place.

I honestly did not like how they went about this, the speeches were fine, but as I said in a earlier post, they tried so hard to turn this into a Sarah McLachlan commercial. To the point where it became cringe worthy, and this has nothing to do with Iwata, but how they chose to go about presenting this tribute like a funeral wake.

As if the Pearl Jam song wasn’t enough, they had to pan the camera to asains in the crowd who were sad. I mean c’mon… Of all the people they could have picked in the crowd…

I don’t know, I just think of tribute to be more than wallowing in sadness and death, its more of honoring that person and all they did in the world in a good light. So yea, let’s talk about all the amazing accomplishments someone has achieved in their lifetime, and then make it depressing as shit afterwards.

    1. The slideshow and music were awful. I was waiting for Kirby or Earthbound music to drop but it never happened. Reggie’s speech was on point though. It made me tear up a bit.

Like John Cena, he’s a great human being. But as an man in the entertainment business, go away. Please! Just go away! Never darken the hall of a beloved company ever again!

  4. Reggie always sounds like he’s reading a script. I can’t take anything he says sincerely. He just spouts of empty promises and lies fed to him through an earpiece.
How about honor Iwata by keeping your fucking mouth shut. Iwata was legit. Reggie’s just a puppet.

I agree that Reggie is just a fucking puppet. But at the same time, everyone that gives a speech is pretty much reading from a script. Doesn’t make them any less sincere, though.

After reading Michelle’s description of the tribute, ew. I’m glad I didn’t pay attention to it. Give Iwata a better tribute that isn’t like a commercial trying to pull your heart strings to weasel money from your wallet. I hope this wasn’t done simply to guilt trip people into buying some of Nintendo’s crappy products they have been trying to shove down our throats since E3 2015 ended. When I watch a tribute, I want it to be full of both happy AND sad moments! Otherwise, it’s trash!

Reggie fanboys or people misreading my comment incoming in 3… 2……
