Aonuma Says Linkle Was Going To Be Link’s Sister

Nintendo’s newly announced character for Hyrule Warriors Legends on the Nintendo 3DS, Linkle, was originally going to be Link’s sister but The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma spotted a couple of problems with this and instead thought she would be better suited to being a female Link. Aonuma says she is a girl with heroic aspirations.

“Koei Tecmo first proposed the Linkle character as Link’s little sister for the Wii U version of Hyrule Warriors. However, we felt this conflicted with the concept of Aryll from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the only character we had ever had appear as Link’s sister, so we decided not to include that version. In Hyrule Warriors Legends, though, the proposal was to include Linkle not as Link’s sister, but as a girl with heroic aspirations. This was a totally new and unique background for the franchise, and we thought she would add to the game’s diversity, so we decided to include her in this game.”

“Linkle is a young woman who lives in a small village in Hyrule and cares for Cuccos. She has aspired to be a hero since she was little, and believes that the compass she received from her grandmother, which has been passed down for generations, is the symbol that proves it.”

*facepalm* Unless Aryll is going to be another playable character in Legends, why not keep Linkle (god awful name) as Link’s sister?

Besides, we have dozens of different generations of the Hero so why can’t there be more than one Link with a sibling!?

Let’s ignore the fact there were plenty of different incarnations of Link before this game & there will be plenty more different incarnations of Link in the future.

Another change to WordPress but still no edit feature so we don’t make consecutive comments in a row because we either just realized we had more to say or our comment went through before we were actually done typing! Anyone else annoyed by this?

  4. As far as I’m concerned, she’s HW Link’s long-LOST sister. Just be Aryll exists in the franchise, does mean she can be it only sister for Link. Not only that, at least Linkle has an actual plot and is playable. What does Aryll contribute. A random telescope in Wind Waker? Now what does she contribute in HW? And since these are different Links, one having a sister too conflicts with nothing.

And “girl with heroic aspirations” being a unique concept? Are we in the early 1900’s? It’s hardly an original concept, since we’ve had so many female protagonists with similar if not identical aspirations.

Just have Linkle connected to Link somehow.

You were right with everything but Aryll. She’s the whole reason Link runs off from home in the first place since she gets kidnapped.
