Microsoft Studios Suggests Asking Rare Whether Rare Replay Comes To Wii U

microosftrarenintendo

In a surprising turn of events the official Microsoft Studios Twitter account doesn’t really have a problem with Rare Replay coming to the Wii U. The acclaimed collection of games which includes Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Conker’s Bad Fur Day and many more shot to the top of the charts in the United Kingdom on release. The person responding on the Twitter account says that it is down to Rare, but it could be a little more complicated than that. Who knows? Would you like Rare Replay to come to the Wii U?

    1. they have always worked together. also so has Nintendo and Nokia, which Microsoft now owns the majority of (phone division) also they share patents and technology its not they were ever rivals. ever notice how Microsoft has a cross pad and Sony dues not. (they have 4 arrow buttons) I wouldn’t be suppressed if they are even working with Microsoft on the NX OS (which is supposed to be a big deal compared to the firmware on other Nintendo devices) in fact I wouldn’t be surprised what with all the android app developers Microsoft has bought up, if Nintendo might be using a custom version of Linux for NX and has Microsoft bringing apps and helping them build the OS. they make games, they share the industry. they were never rivals. Nintendo is just more conservative then Microsoft because all they do is gaming. as where Microsoft has a long WIDE history with having to work with out side companies.

  1. Rare did a lazy job with Rare Replay. Framedrops n’ stuff. Don’t think they’ll Wii U any better.
    Don’t Banjo will come to Smash. Microsoft is just probably pretty clever and are using the Ballot’s hype to gain a little attention, that’s all.
    If Banjo would come to Smash however. Rare Replay or something Banjo related like… N64 VC or something will probably appear.

      1. That guy probably haven’t even played the game himself, just watched some reviews and based his judgment on those.

        The only game in the whole collection that was experiencing framedrops was Nuts and Bolts and that got fixed in a recent patch, so there’s not really any technical issues left. Everything these days can get fixed with a patch, it’s not a problem.

        The collection has 30 games, whereas half of them have snapshot challenges á la NES Remix. A lot of the former half of games also have cheats and rewind for new, less experienced players. Each game also has a remixed theme on their respective start up screen in the main menu. There is also a digital manual for each game, explaining both controls, gameplay and story of the game, even the first ones. You unlock stamps for completing challenges in each game. Stamps let’s you unlock special videos, making ofs, game art and soundtrack. There are also playlists that let you complete a bunch of challenges from different games in one go. The collection even has a theme song and a nice intro.

        The collection was not lazy work. People like to hate on games they can’t have just to justify a reason for them missing out on said games. If Rare Replay comes out for the Wii U, just you wait and see. This guy will come running back to this site and praise the collection like he forgot what he just said today.

        1. I… got it… but nice of you to think you got access to my apartment and tell me stuff about my game collection :)

          I didn’t say I didn’t like it. I just think N64 ports could get a bit more love. 360 games must be hard for Bone to emulate, so frames drops there are okey. But many of this game have been released on 360. Should give them time to fix easy things as frames on 64 ports. And there is never any excuses to give us consumers a good well-done product. 30 games, okey, but it’s not like they’re new original AAA tittles…

        2. Man, I love everything about Rare Replay. Indeed, there was no lazy work there.

          If this collection comes to Wii U, will be a blast, and more people will have the opportunity to play it.

          And I think kantenstain already developed better his statement, and all is fine!

        1. Ah, never touched Bad Fur Day on the XBOne yet. But probably it has been fixed already due to patches released recently, as stated by some people here in the comments section.

          PC gamers have eagle eyes, my goodness! XD

            Yeah, that’s what happens when you game on PC. You eventually start to notice even the smallest fps drops and flaws in graphics. It’s like a curse. Lol.

            1. LOL!

              I never had a PC strong enough to play.

              Actually, to tell you the truth, I used to play Civilization and Sim City back in the 90’s, as well as most of Lucas Arts titles (Full Throttle, The Dig, Sam and Max, Grim Fandango and others that I don’t remember). I also played Phantasmagoria from the beginning to the very end: that was a scary one!

              1. HollowGrapeJ (Shantae- Part Of The Wayforward Family Of Slaying Evil And Making Criminals Stop In The Name Of The Law)

                Well, it’s not always about how strong your PC is. I’ve got a PC that can play anything but there’s this thing that happens when I play The Sims 3 where the frame rate randomly drops a few fps and then goes back up to 60. It happens quickly but I still notice it. Lol told you. Curse…

        2. I play mostly multiplayer, so if the campaign has issues, I wouldn’t have noticed yet. I’m just glad to have Perfect Dark easily playable again

          1. HollowGrapeJ (Shantae- Part Of The Wayforward Family Of Slaying Evil And Making Criminals Stop In The Name Of The Law)

            Dude Conker BFD’s multiplayer is so fun that I don’t even remember getting that far into the story. I played multiplayer every day. If Rare Replay doesn’t come to any other system, I’ve got no choice but to get an XB1!

            1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

              Same here. Quadraxis won’t like it but screw him! It’s fucking Rare games! I don’t give a fuck anymore! With the lack of N64 virtual console, of course people like me are going to start wanting to play Rare games again even if that means getting an Xbone to do it.

            2. Yes, omg exactly. My dad brother and I are always laughing after a few rounds of Squirrel carnage and teddy bear stuffing everywhere. XD it doesn’t matter who wins or loses

    1. The new dashboard fixed most of the drops in FPS on X360 games (Banjo N&B was unplayable), the games n64 games had very few dips in FPS, compared to the originals.

    2. What?? I play it frequently and don’t know what you mean… Which game are you seeing drops? It’s a great title, we can play a few N64 favorites. Probably wouldn’t get much support from modern Nintendo fans anyway.

      1. Sorry for lousy writing. Damn touch screens! Conker is worst. Jetforce Gemini is troublesome at times. Nut’ n Bolts is ill, but I don’t blame them for having laggy 360-tittles. Truth to be told: Haven’t tried it since the two first launch week in august, so could been updated? Haven’t seen any updates though. Liked the collection overall myself. Missed Snake Rattle ‘n Roll so that was great fun! Too bad they didn’t include the Mega Drive/Genesis version of it.

        1. They did update, yes, Banjo n&b was unplayable before the update, now it’s close enough to the X360 original…
          The n64 games, I don’t know… I’ve seen people complaining about dips in frame rate, I don’t notice any drop in fps that wasn’t on the original N64 release, remember, a lot of N64 games were choppy as hell, it was a common issue in every early 3D console capable system.
          Sure, I’m probably wrong, and the games do perform worse, and if they do, that should be fixed, but as far I can tell, they are playable enough.

  2. Seems a bit odd to say, either MS is really trying to push their software too as many platforms as it can (which explains Windows 10 integration and how even my toaster has Minecraft now) or they are indeed using this as a way to get more attention. Either way, its smart, but it would feel weird playing Viva Piñata on my Wii U lol.

  3. I’ll love to see Rare Replay on Wii U, would totally buy it again, but the thing is, there is a lot of X360 games on it, and Grabbed by the Ghoulies, that is a OG Xbox game, they would have to port the Xbox games to Wii U, sure Perfect Dark and the Banjo Games could be the N64 Games instead of the XBLA present on RR, but there is Kameo, PD Zero, Piñatas, Jet Pack, an Banjo N&B to port, that would make the $30,00 tag impossible on WiiU.

  4. But, in the other hand… Rare could team with Nintendo and release a different version of Rare Replay, one without the Xbox 360 games, that would be very little cost effective to port, and replace them with the DK games, like the DKC series, DK64, Diddy Kong racing. Include the SNES version of KI, alongside KI Gold and 2, maybe Star Fox Adventures, if possible, etc…

    Ok, pretty much impossible, but hey, a man can dream.

    1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

      We could get Star Fox Adventures even without Rare Replay if Nintendo wanted. But with how many people dislike the game, I guess Nintendo doesn’t see a good investment out of releasing the game by itself.

      1. That’s probably true, but really, a lot of the things going on Rare Replay confuses the shit out of me, legally speaking, we have direct NES and N64 emulation going on, we have some games that were published by Nintendo, all there, the thing that creeps me out is the Nintendo logo replaced by Microsoft Games Studios, and even more weird it’s the XBLA version of Perfect Dark, where the N64 logo is replaced by the “4-something” (forgot the studio’s name) logo.
        Of course, they obviously are there legally, but they do defy everything that I though I knew about publishing, IP rights, games licensing, emulation, etc…
        Also, the presence of Grabbed by the Ghoulies there is something that intrigues me, I don’t think that Rare would remake the game in order to work on Xbone just to be part of an 30 games collection that costs $30,00, so I do think that it is an emulation, pretty much like the X360 games, so, if that is correct, the Xbone already emulates og Xbox, and it’s a matter of time, and legal witchcraft to become another feature of the console.

      1. “This is where”?
        Implying it’s not always a smart idea to have a second console?

        IMO, if a gamer doesn’t have at least one Nintendo console per gen to complement either a PS4, XBone, or PC, they’re missing out on the full range of great exclusives available each gen.

        1. Maybe drybones intended to mean “the reason why”.

          But I agree — and so dybones — that having one of the twins and the current Nintendo home console allows one to reach an almost frustration-free situation.

  5. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>You human cattle actually accepting this evil agenda is pathetic and disgusting, don’t cry when the Xbots one day finally forces you to abandon gaming for good or make you all kneel once they have complete and utter control over all our universe>>>

          1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

            >>>I know and that was my reference towards>>>

            >>>However, I don’t like the idea of you being “happy” if they made Rare game sequels and what not considering everything would be under the influence of those disgusting Xbot lifeforms>>>

    1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

      The lesser of two evils. It’s either Rare Replay on Wii U or I get an Xbone to go alongside my Wii U & PlayStation 4. Either way, I fucking win! D:<

  6. How nice! I like the idea of a gaming world where everyone gets along. Maybe Nintendo should make some games for Xbox and PlayStation platforms.

    You know, capitalize on their larger install base.

    1. Uh no, then Nintendo has to take time to learn a competitors system, and that would take away from their own development time, and then we get more bigger game droughts lol. Nintendo should stay Nintendo, Microsoft should stay Microsoft, Sony should…well frankly just go bankrupt already.

      1. HollowGrapeJ (Shantae- Part Of The Wayforward Family Of Slaying Evil And Making Criminals Stop In The Name Of The Law)

        Why should they go bankrupt? Sony makes great systems! I would be really angry if that happened.

      2. How about this: Sony should do their own thing for once and stop playing copycat. Xbox seriously must fuck off gaming forever like mobile and Nintendo..well, either grow a pair and a brain to please hardcore like they use to or, like Xbox, fuck off gaming and stick to making Toys R Us merchandises.

      3. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

        Hell no! I love Sony! They should stay & Microsoft should leave the console business! Since they own Rare & Mojang, they can still make money in the video game industry by going 3rd party.

        1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

          Of course, they have to pull Rare out of the gutter first, though.

    1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

      I wish I could say the same but I can’t. Sadly, as a kid, most of my gaming was done through renting from video stores. So I have no choice but to wait for virtual console & re-releases of games. And Amazon & eBay are definitely out of the question. It’d be cheaper just to buy an Xbone & Rare Replay unfortunately.

        1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

          It was only a small few I never completed like 5-10 out of dozens of games. I can’t remember the exact number so 5-10 is merely a rounding of numbers.

            1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

              I honestly can’t remember. I keep hitting a brick wall every time I try to. But the places I rented from were very similar to how Blockbuster would rent out video games.

                1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

                  xD If I had to guess, I’d say around 3-5 days per game.

  7. Somehow I don’t feel any hope from this. I feel rare will say “It’s up to Nintendo” and Nintendo either won’t say anything or they’ll say “it’s not our decision” and nothing will happen. We’d have to make a lot of noise for it to even be in consideration.

  8. Heh, I don’t know, I feel this is a deal with the devil, because lets face it, the current Rare isn’t any of the original guys who MADE THESE GAMES, so having essentially a bunch of randoms, port over an Xbox game of Nintendo games, to a Nintendo system (Wii U) I feel like it wouldn’t run well, 3rd parties don’t take the time to learn the Wii U so a Microsoft exclusive company sure as hell wont. Sorry Microsoft but keep your crappy Rare to yourself.

  9. Honestly as much as I want this to happen, I’m not sure if the wii u can even handle Rare Replay. The wii u isn’t as powerful as the xbone so porting a game collection like this might be impossible without having to cut some content.

    1. the wii u can handle xenoblade chronicles x, 2 gcn games being ported and made to hd, and gba games so it can handle rare replay, besides, most of those games are emulated to play on the xbone so it can also be emulated on wii u. also i dont think a compilation game like rare replay goes over 20gb, xenoblade chronicles x is a bit over 22gb on one disc and if it does go over 22gb then it will gave to be digital only as cutting the content into 2 disks will be more expensive, i know nintendo has done that with gcn but only a handful do that. whether or not it does come true is actually up to rare and microsoft as they have to make a joint decision.

  10. sounds like they are doing a Platinum Games (P* or P+, either way) with Bayonetta 2. speaking of i never got to play it nor finish the first, i still have them. maybe i will play it when im not playing xenoblade chronicles x.

    *eye twitch* Yes… yes… YES GOD DAMN IT!!! I don’t fucking care how the fuck they do it but do it, Nintendo! Pay whatever the fuck they want! GIVE ME RARE REPLAY ON WII U GOD DAMN IT!!! If not the sinking ship, at least bring it to NX! I really don’t want to buy an Xbone someday for that game but sacrifices will be made! Whether it’s Nintendo sacrificing or me, I’m gonna play Rare Replay! Must relive N64 childhood! @.@
