It seems like every week that we hear Super Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai says that Super Smash Bros on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS could be his last. In a recent interview he has once again stated that he’s not sure if there will be another Smash Bros game, but of course we all hope there will be. Sakurai also revealed what we all expected and that’s that the Super Smash Bros DLC is nearing its end. Here’s what he had to say!
Sakurai: Yes, that applies to Lucina as well. How much a character will please the players, how unique they are—there are a lot of factors that go into deciding a character’s inclusion. I don’t know whether Fire Emblem will have many more games in the future, but it’s not as if we have a stipulation that says “we have to include the protagonist of the next Fire Emblem game.” Moreover, we don’t even know if there’ll be another Smash game.
Interviewer: You do say that every time, though, so I do wonder if maybe it’ll just keep on going forever.
Sakurai: And I’ll become the Smash craftsman? (laughs)
Interviewer: Yes. After all, including the DLC, you’ve been involved with Smash since the beginning.
Sakurai: Well, DLC is coming to an end soon, too, y’know.

There is no way in hell they’ll stop milking it for money. Metroid’s original head creator Gunpei Yokoi died sometime after Super Metroid was made and was actually supposed to end as a trilogy as Gunpei Yokoi wanted but since it was a nice little cash cow, they didn’t stop making them. So why would Sakurai retiring or whatever stop them from doing the same with Smash? Nintendo is the publisher & IP owner of Smash. What they say goes. If Sakurai doesn’t want to do anymore Smash games, Nintendo will find someone else.*~
yea, smash is a system seller, and in no way is it going to be the last. the next game well probably be a development platform though. they well probably keep making content for it the life of the NX. but not only dues it sell systems. but its one of those expected games, like the next Mario kart, or Mario adventure, or Mario party, of course it well be around. he might not always be the director (honestly this is probably his last time) but that’s fine. I think it needs a new director at this point. it feels a little stale. sure its the most ambitious version yet. BUT it also had some dry areas. (seriously only 2 attack buttons?) I think they could even port the Wii U version to NX, update it a bit, and be able to just keep adding content. (any time a new game comes out they could introduce new trophies, stages, stage builder items, songs, fighters, weapons/items. assist trophies. their is now over 60$ worth of DLC meaning for “all” of smash you would pay 120$+ ….yea that cash cow is not going away any time soon
Definitely won’t be the final game especially when there’s still many more features and ideals to explore. Who knows, they might make a mobile Smash Bros. game (it’ll make sense if they make a hardware control casing for iPhone)

2 attack buttons is WHY the game works so well. It’s simple and easy to understand. You give players too many buttons and it starts to get confusing.
Sakurai should retire from Smash, let Miyamoto take over, or hell, let Retro Studio’s reboot it and remove all the filthy casual shit from it like Ryu. At least Miyamoto wouldn’t cut Wolf from the game, WOLF IS HIS CHARACTER AFTER ALL lol. And I bet Miyamoto would make a better online for it then Sakurai ever has.

They need to remove ike and little Mac. They are the most annoying characters and require no skill in smash.
I believe skill is required for both characters. A good little mac player needs lots of skills.
Yes. Lil Mac is an awful for character. There’s a reason why he has the lowest win rate of any character. Only crappy players complain about him because they don’t know to deal with him.
He’s actually a great character if you know how to use him. He has a crappy win rate because people just rush in and get themselves killed. You have to play on the defensive as LM, not offensive.
He’s not an awful character. His neutral match-up is not in his favor, but personal skill is what really matters. Mewtwoking makes it to grand finals of tourneys playing Donkey Kong, who is considered worst/very low tier. My two top win rates in my fighter records are 1. Little Mac with 774 wins and 2. Fox with 642 wins. Skill is always > tier list. Anyways if you wanna be bodied by little mac let me know.
Little Mac is one of the most challenging to master due to his high risk/high reward.

Smash has been far too much of a successful franchise since the N64 era to just suddenly give up on.
Taking a break is understandable, but to stop production entirely would be a pretty foolish move.
That’s like stopping with the “main” Pokemon titles. And we all know that Pokemon is the most popular Nintendo handheld games which sell like hot cakes on release.

well its hard to say i have to agree with him yeah smash bros DLCs will be ending next week so we dont know whats coming to us in the future about the next smash bros game so hopefully we might get a chance to see a better smash bros game on NX well i guess we have to wait and find out for our selves besides only time will tell.
I for one don’t really care if I ever see another Smash game. This one burned me out. I’d rather see an RPG featuring an all-star cast. Always wanted that. Like Kingdom Hearts, but with all Nintendo worlds that you can explore.
Smash is too much of a system seller to end and I think/hope Nintendo knows this. As for DLC ending, as long as we get Banjo and Kazooie I’ll be happy.

Personally, the sooner Sakurai finally keeps his word & stays away from Smash the sooner someone else can replace him. He’s done good for the franchise for the most part but it’s time to let someone else take over. Preferably a very long time before Sakurai dies so he can give the new director of Smash some pointers like Miyamoto did with the Zelda franchise & Aonuma.
