Platinum Explains Why They’ve Been Working On So Many Exclusives, Has 200 Staff

If there’s one developer that’s currently churning out a number of high profile games for numerous platform holders then it is none other than respected development studio, Platinum Games. The company is working on games such as Star Fox Zero, Scalebound, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Nier 2. You would be surprised to learn that the company has 200 staff who are all hard at work bringing these titles together.

Now 200 people strong and 10 years past its break from Capcom, Platinum Games’ name is synonymous with action games. But according to its developers, they’ve only just begun showing the world their capability.

“We don’t have a specific stance towards console exclusives, but what we do have are games that we really want to make, and it’s very difficult now to find partners who are ready to make big bets on larger games like that,” he explains. “One of the ways that you can get a partner who will buy into that vision is to go into places, especially console makers who have hardware that they want to sell and want to make content that sticks out. A lot of times they will champion a product like that, so we’ve used that route to accomplish our goal of making these games that we want to make. Nier is a special case where the publisher decided on the console exclusivity, and that was part of their business decision and that’s totally okay, but in the cases where we’ve created a console exclusive, that’s often been a case of us wanting to get a game made and not stopping until we’ve done that.”

  1. The one most interests me is starfox zero than any other title platinum is developing as i’ve been huge fan of this game since snes till now, One of my fave game of all time has been lylat wars on n64 of all video i have played nothing beats things might change with starfox zero, i wonder if this will take the crown of the n64 game, we will have to see.

  2. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

    I look forward to Nier 2. So many games coming to the PS4 that were announced at this year’s E3 was actually one of the pushes I needed to get a PS4 this year. So if the Wii U’s lineup of games that interest me is shit again next year (it seems to be that way already since there is only 2-3 games coming next year that interest me & 1 game that I’m on the fence about right now), I won’t be part of the group of poor saps suffering from lack of games to play because they only have a Wii U. 2016 is going to be a great gaming year for me with my combination of PS4, n3DS & Wii U!
