Famitsu: A New Story Of Seasons Will Be Coming To The 3DS

In the upcoming edition of Famitsu there will be a double page feature on the new Story of Seasons title that will be coming to the 3DS. The only information teased in the news section of Famitsu’s website is that it features 3 villages this time. The rest of the details will be revealed in their next publication, along with a few screenshots.

Whilst details are scarce at the moment on when the game will be localised, it should hopefully come to light in the coming weeks.

      1. Lucky you! Wish I could do the same, but unfortunately, I can’t even read Japanese, hah. Of course there’s also the bs region lock on the 3DS, otherwise I would have just imported Story of Seasons from the US, considering it came out almost a whole year before the European version.

      2. I managed to play Story of Seasons in Japanese but some of the item names in kanji was tedious to look up when there was no English item lists to compare them to. There were MANY new items… The rest is problems with the game itself. Like unlocking some animals takes 3 in game years. Or heck, year 2 just to buy a dog. That’s a pain in the butt. Still played for at least 100+ hours. Still I’m glad I have a JP 3DS and a European one. I bought it again in English and I have played 60 hours so far.

      3. I have 2 3DS’ as well, but both are European. Should have considered getting my 2nd one from another region, missed an opportunity there. Oh well.
And waiting years for certain items sounds tedious indeed. I guess it’s to give people motivation to keep playing, but yea, doesn’t seem to be the best way to achieve that. Still, despite its flaws, it seems to be a good game, and I’m only waiting for a good deal to get myself a copy. In the meantime, I actually went back to playing HM: Animal Parade on the Wii, lmao. It certainly has its flaws too, but I’m still having a good time with it. So it does a good job taking care of my urge to play some Harvest Moon, until I get my hands on Story of Seasons.

      4. It’s not bad at all. You can actually play in “noob mode” where you unlock stuff faster because items are cheaper but I think a few things still take some time to unlock. Like the animals. The new game isn’t as heavily focused on building either. You just need it to upgrade your house and tools mostly, but the rest is kinda optional. You’ll be given a few spots in town that you can change after some time but nobody is gonna piss on you if you only put some flowers and benches there.

I’m curious what the upcoming game will do. It’s an anniversary game so we can assume there will be two guest characters you can marry from older games again, maybe from N64/PS1 game. I’m just guessing tho. But who knows. I like that you can travel to 3 different towns. Maybe you can choose where you wanna live like Tale of Two Towns let you.

Character customization will probably return, hopefully with even more options. And hopefully your kids will be born with the right skin colour. Not that I’m black but isn’t kinda lame that you’ll always get the same kids. I wanna get kids that will look like the character I’m marrying. If I marry Nadi the dark skinned character in SoS I want brown children. lol It shouldn’t be so hard to do.

      5. Yea, the heavy focus on building was what made me dislike A New Beginning, so I’m glad they dropped that with Story of Seasons and hopefully future entries too. The whole thing being optional is best imo, instead of having it being forced onto you.

What I could find out about the new game was that the three islands kinda have their own “themes”, one of them being traditional Japanese. Development is apparently 80% done and it will release in early 2016 in Japan. You can actually see the Famitsu scan too if you google it – unfortunately, no pictures of the bachelors and bachelorettes, hah. Really looking forward to new info and how the game’s gonna turn out.

And yeaa, character cutsomization is always good. ANB had quite a lot too, if I remember correctly, but getting more would be even better.
Didn’t know about the kids though. On the Wii games, the appearance of your children depended on the person you married, figured would be the same with the 3DS titles too, but I guess not. But yea, it certainly is possible, so let’s hope it’s gonna be a thing again in future titles.

      6. The only things you’ll need to build are the house upgrades but they aren’t that hard to get. It only took me 60 hours to get the biggest house and it’s not even required to marry tho it is required to have children later on. That and the sewing studio, you’ll need it to build a ring so you can give it to your waifu/husbando.

You may also wanna upgrade your tools but it ain’t that hard either when you unlock the safari where the mine also is located. That’s where you find all rare stones. Third thing you may wanna build is a coop for chickens and rabbits. The coop is very basic and no rare stones are required. And while you’re on it build a kitchen and a fridge but they are very easy to make and the blueprints are cheap.

So no you don’t need to build the town itself. More characters will move in eventually on their own you may only need to enter a location when the time is right and trigger a event. There’s dozens of guides that tell you how and when so don’t worry. And like I said, a few spots in town are changeable but you can put whatever you want there or let them be until you have something to put there, if you ever want to. I never noticed any character acting grumpy because it wasn’t to their liking it really doesn’t matter. I gift them and talk to them like normal and they are happy.

Tho one final thing, you can get extra affection from characters if you wear clothes they like. They all like different things and it’s pretty random but they’ll tell you if they like them. But this as well is optional. If you have different kinds of wool and stuff like cotton you can create all kinds of clothes. Pick whatever you like or look up a combination that your love interest will like. You can even crossdress, they’ll still like it. Then stuff will go a lot quicker. That’s what I recommend.

I wont spoil anything else. Good luck when you decide to get the game. xD I hope the new game is great as well!

      7. Sounds pretty good! Thanks a bunch for all that great info + tips and actually writing it all out, it’s certainly gonna help me when I finally get my hands on the game. From the sound of it, it seems like the things I hear is all stuff I’m looking for in a HM game, so I have no doubts I’m gonna have a good time with it.
        Again, thanks! :)

This whole debacle is downright confusing. Which one is the traditional Harvest Moon gameplay again? Story of Seasons or the other thing?

    1. They are literally the same thing… It’s just another name… That Lost Valley game made by Natsume is NOT an official title tho because it’s not made by Marvelous. Natsume previously PUBLISHED the titles outside Japan and now they are making their own games but they are really just spin offs approved by Marv. This, Story of Seasons, A new beginning, Tale of two towns ect were made by Marv. Same was earlier DS titles ect. Hope that clears up some confusion. If you wanna get into the series again you wanna play the Marvelous games. I say skip Lost Valley altogether since it plays very differently than all the other games and most fans disliked it.

So if it’s not Marvelous, it’s not Harvest Moon. Got it!

      2. Yeah. More or less. It’s more than just farming these days. Finding your love in the game is one of the best parts too. Lost Valley failed at that so hard. Hardly any characters to choose from. And they tried to mix the mechanics of Minecraft into the game. Ugh. Such a mess. They are now making another game for phones/Wii U but it’s very retro and in 2D. It could be worth checking out but I consider it more of a “fan game” or an indie title.
