Nintendo France Provides Sales Data

We’ve already heard about how well current generation consoles are doing in both Germany and France but we haven’t really heard much about Nintendo software and the incredibly popular amiibo. Well, Nintendo France has now provided some sales data for 2015 which is very encouraging. As you may already know Nintendo seems to do particularly well in France so its nice to have some raw sales data to look at. Here’s all the details you need to know!

  •  Nintendo 3DS: 685 000 units sold (-6%), 4m LTD
  • Wii U: 228 000 units sold (-4%), 742 000 LTD
  • Mario Kart 7: 225 000 units [yes, not Mario Kart 8]
  • New Super Mario Bros. 2: 180 000 units
  • Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer: 250 000 units
  • New Style Boutique 2: 130 000 units in a month
  • Splatoon: 300 000 units
  • amiibo: 1m units in 2015
  • amiibo cards: 250 000 packs
  • Next, their ‘plans’ for 2016. First, they plan to have more game + related amiibo launching together (think Zelda TP HD for example). Game-wise, there’s the new Zelda game on Wii U, Fire Emblem Fates, Bravely Second: End Layer, Dragon Quest 7 + 8 on Nintendo 3DS.
  • There’s also Yo-kai Watch (they really hope it’ll do better than in the US), launching later this year. Apparently airing on ‘major national TV channel’ (they don’t say which one). They quickly mention Miitomo and NX (+ theme parks stuff) and the usual “consoles are the core of our business” quote.
  • A funny tidbit to end: Nintendo has apparently signed some deals with clothing brands:
  • Vans (shoes)
  • Undiz (chain of stores selling underwear, pajamas, and stuff for women). They explicitely mention Nintendo-branded underwear, pajamas, sweats.

  1. It’s a shame France did not hit the 1 million mark for the wii u after 3 years. But next year I am they will. Also I believe the wii u sales will increase after the details of the Nx has been unveiled.

    1. If one of those details is backwards compatibility, which is almost guaranteed being a nintendo console, I see future console sales dropping unless a major price drop is slapped on it.

      1. strangely enough I don’t think a price drop will happen until the yen getting stronger.

My take on the NX is that totally something a bit different than a home console. For me I think the NX will be something where you can play mobile or some PC video game as well as first party game (like a steam machine). I am sure PS4 or XB1 games will be not compatible.

In term of backward compatibility I don’t think the NX will be compatible with any Wii or Wii U games. I think nintendo will go down the same road as the PS4 where all the previous game will be digital (hence why every game on the wii U , are also on the eshop.
