Mighty No.9 Delayed Until Spring

In news that will probably come as a surprise to no one, Comcept has announced that Mighty No.9 has been delayed once again. It was the backers of the game who were told first about the recent delay after receiving the following email.

To the fans eagerly awaiting the release of Mighty No. 9,

Unfortunately, we have an announcement that will be very disappointing to all of you. In preparation for the February release of Mighty No. 9 we have been working hard with our partners to resolve any network issues and porting work necessary to publish Mighty No. 9 on the various platforms. However, the issues relating to the network modes were more critical than expected, and it has become apparent that we will need to delay the game from its February 9th release date. We have been working up until the very last moment to resolve these issues in order to make the February release, but it has become clear that we no longer have enough time to fix the issues and have everything prepared for release.

The reason for the delay is rooted in bugs inside the network modes, and specifically problems with matchmaking. There are two large reasons for this problem, one of them being the large number of platforms supported (the solution for each platform is slightly different) and the other stems from the fact that the engine we are using is no longer being updated which means adjustments for matchmaking and online code are being made manually (actually reprogramming parts of the engine by the dev team themselves). Unfortunately, this is all a result of miscalculations on the part of us, the development staff. As a result, our fans who have been looking forward to Mighty No. 9 have been forced to wait for over half a year longer than expected, and for that we are sincerely sorry. I want to take this chance to apologize personally, and on the behalf of the development staff.

Over the end of the year break and the beginning of 2016, the development staff has been working on these issues non-stop without break, and thanks to their hard work the end is in sight. We continue to make progress to resolve these last issues that have been holding up the release of the game on the different platforms.

Because we are constantly working on it in cooperation with all our partners, we want to wait and make sure that everything is confirmed to be ready before giving a new specific release date. But we expect it to realistically be in Spring 2016.

For this 3rd delay of the game, we have no excuses for disappointing our fans and especially our backers once more. We want to take this chance to express our sincerest apologies to everyone who has looked forward to the release.

Although we are far past our original release date, the release of Mighty No. 9 is still right around the corner. We are all working hard to make sure that we can finish and release the game to all of our fans as quickly as possible, and ask once more for your support of this project that we have created together over these last few years.

Keiji Inafune

  1. I remember that sob story that he gave us back in 2013. Man I’m so glad I didn’t back that kickstarter. I wouldn’t be surprised if the project gets cancelled all together at this point.

    1. I was wondering this as well. “If it gets cancelled and…?”

      But I think they’ve gone too far to do this.

      In the worst scenario, they will remove the online feature and case closed — which is unacceptable, of course. But you know how things work in the industry…

      1. True, its pretty much done, the only reason it wouldn’t surprise me is because he’s also working on ReCore and that got delayed then there’s that MML clone or (successor) Red Ash. His small team seems to taking on way to much at the moment.

        1. Oh, man, I totally forgot about ReCore! Holy cow, never knew Concept was the studio behind it!

          I immediately fell in loved with the art style when I watched the E3 trailer last year.

          1. Yup as Sylux said, the game is being co developed by Comcept and Armature studios. I at least have hope for ReCore since that’s being published by MS, maybe they’ll help with the funding like they did with Tomb Raider. As for Mn9, well, lets just say that nothing is going to surprise me.

      1. In the letter they said no excuses so no defending is needed. Luckily for me I have understanding dealing with projects with bugs that are different to fix. For many people this is unacceptable.

        1. This isn’t JUST an issue with bugs. They have raised a ridiculous amount of money for a 2D platformer. The time and money they have been given make this inexcusible. This man does not deserve empathy. Anyone who gives it to him is an idiot.

          1. Not all new companys have a smooth transition. There will be pains. They are only human. He is not the only person working on the game. He may be a good to great developer but he need to learn more on the business side. When a person start a business it is a lot they will not have a clue about that includes time management, cost, and business in general. Everyone that complain about delays justified or not should try to create a game before throwing stones. By create a game I mean the who process not just the game itself but the timing, the management, the negiotation, and anything else. As i said, I am patient and understanding because I know my first hand about delays and meeting deadlines along with the part of the business consumers never see or think about.

                1. I’d love to work for you.
                  I’d never have to meet a deadline, would make tons of money and could do shitty work and make mistakes all day, then leave with a pat on the back.
                  Stop wasting your empathy on this guy. Seriously. It can be used in far more legit situations.

                  1. Why are trying to make up stuff? My employees met their deadline 95 percent of the time. My employees including myself win awards within the company. People make mistakes. It is unacceptable but I’m not working for concept so I don’t know what is going on. People always in other people’s business as if they are working for them and know what’s going on. I am saying it’s unacceptable from a consumer standpoint but understandable from a business standpoint. I look at both sides not one side.

  2. Keiji screwed up any chances of the public backing anything he’s working on in the future! There are no more excuses, especially in this time and age of gaming where we literally have individual indie devs creating games on their own, which are way better than MN9 in my honest opinion, like Dust an Elysian Tail!
    He had the audacity to ask for more money for 2 other KS projects (Red Ash game & movie) when he hadn’t even delivered on his first project! Come to find out his next two KS projects were already fully funded before the kickstarter began, and it was just them trying to pull a Sony/Shenmu 3 scam, just to see how much interest fans had for it by dishonestly taking their money out of greed!
    During their double/triple dipping into the crowdfunding scene, when they didn’t need it, many other really good projects were passed over because of his arrogance! To hell with MN( and any othe game Keiji is working on! I believe he, just like capcom, are too much the same, and that’s why MML 3 was canceled!

  3. Also if the engine isn’t being supported anymore, that is their mistake for choosing that engine in the first place, though if they have to program the engine themselves, hey you guys can’t be to mad they are trying lol.

    1. I think I heard they’re using Unreal 3, which is the only way you’re going to get it on PS3/360/WiiU/3DS/Vita, most of the consoles they’re making it for. Also they started development 2 years ago. You can’t honestly say “welp it’s your fault”, when it was being supported when they were making it. They couldn’t realistically predict “oh they’ll definitely stop updating it when we really need it and we’ll be screwed”. Come on man, you can’t account for literally everything. There’s plenty of reasons to disagree with Inafune’s decisions, but this isn’t one of them.

      1. Jaded Professor Ridley Bowie X3 {R.I.P. David Bowie, the One & Only Goblin King! R.I.P. Alan Rickman, the Awesome Professor Snape!}

        I’m taking that as sarcasm since a real bad consumer would take the “cuz we can” as a viable reason to not press the matter any further & bow their head to their Master Overlords. lol

      2. Lol. On the contrary; I love when Nintendo comes out and says “So we’re going to delay this game just because, well just because. Soooooooo screw you. Don’t complain. We both know your gonna buy it anyway. Look forward to more details. : )”

        Most companies don’t have the confidence (some prefer to say arrogance) to do that.

    1. People should have been asking for their money back since Inafune hired Dina and gave her complete control over the community, back then chargebacks were easy by just calling the bank and cancelling the transaction, right now it’s impossible to get a cent bank, Inafune has already pocketed it.

      1. Yeah, Dina Karam is perhaps the most egocentric SJW to date. Never understood why she used to be a moderator in Mighty #9 community.

  4. Jaded Professor Ridley Bowie X3 {R.I.P. David Bowie, the One & Only Goblin King! R.I.P. Alan Rickman, the Awesome Professor Snape!}

    lol The backers of this game will be getting it 100% free, right? Even ones that only gave a single buck to the kickstarter should get it for free at this point.

    Just when I thought Kickstarter was starting to get a good rep, here comes this fucking asshole!
