A rumour is currently doing the rounds on the internet that suggests that a certain graphically demanding PlayStation 4 game is currently in development for the Nintendo NX platform. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as no doubt when the platform does launch there should be a number of ports much like there was when the Wii U launched in 2012. What’s also interesting is that the rumour also states that key partners (both third party and second party) have NX development kits.
- Nintendo has key partners they are working with that already have Dev Kits (Second & Third party)
- The Development Studio he works for is currently working on a graphically demanding PlayStation 4 game that they would like to have the opportunity to port to the NX.
- The Studio does not have Dev Kit’s themselves yet and have not been informed of the specs, however the graphical performance of the NX is of great interest to them due to their current project.
- The Developer and Studio he works for has been informed of the date/time frame they are allowed to start ordering NX dev kits, but they are under a strict NDA not to reveal this time frame until Nintendo has officially revealed the NX to the public.
- The Developer did say that Nintendo is screening early Dev Kit access before the public developer date to order, but the process is extremely complex with a lot of paperwork to complete by both sides before having the chance of being approved. Most likely the paperwork has a lot to do with a multifaceted NDA for early access.
- When NDA’s on the NX are less binding and when his studio gets the NX Dev Kit soon or in the future, he will inform me of more details on what the Dev Kit is like (specs etc) if he is able.
- NX is most likely to be released this year at the end of 2016 based on the time-frame he was given (NDA) of when dev kits are planning on being distributed to developers besides the key partners to Nintendo that already have them. However, he said that ultimately as with any company it’s up to Nintendo to follow through and release the NX during this time frame.
Cue further rumouring of it being the Final Fantasy 7 Remake because Cloud4Smash

Reading it carefully, it seems the game won’t be necessarily coming to the NX, but, instead, the studio is keen to port it to the NX.
However, overall, this rumor is pretty unbelievable. The NX home console won’t be released this year, this is clear.

The Wii U is the Nintendo home console I like the least, and I dare to say I even like the Wii better.
I don’t have hard, definitive evidence to support my position the next Nintendo’s home console won’t be out this year. I’m sure that no one other than insiders has any concrete clues on it. But one can paint a picture which shows that 3rd parties won’t have enough time to port whatever games to the NX late this year. Unless Nintendo wants to rely on 1st and 2nd party games, which will hamper NX initial sales and the home console’s overall image.

Prepare to be surprised then when it releases this holiday season. The U is on its last legs considering the minimal releases this year. It won’t help them to keep it on life support for a whole other year.
Key point on this rumor is some devs already have kits, just these guys don’t want to bother with the paperwork so they’re likely a small studio.
If it’s good for me? Who knows, I don’t know if it’s good or bad myself as I really don’t care much about it — I don’t strictly play on Nintendo platforms, so I’ll be busy playing something anyway.
Considering how little Nintendo cares about 3rd parties and vice versa, why would Nintendo delay their machine for the chance that there could be 3rd party games on the system when they most likely won’t help them anyways?
Their overall image has already been shit upon, especially when it comes to 3rd party games, and it’d take a miracle for them to reverse that – but it wouldn’t be wise to do so.
Nintendo hasn’t cared about 3rd parties for a long time. It’s time for not just gamers but Nintendo to admit that they simply shouldn’t try to put any effort into painting a false picture of their console having 3rd party games. Nintendo should put out the best console they can for their games and their games alone and realize that any Nintendo console makes a great secondary addition to a home that already has an xbone or ps4 which handles 3rd party games. Nintendo is not the place to go for 3rd party games, and that’s been the case for years, and should continue as such.
While I agree 100% with you, let’s be reasonable and, using the very old and rotten cliché, conclude that any platform definitely cannot be succesful without 3rd party support.
From a business standpoint, it’s not possible that Nintendo will ignore 3rd parties once more — the release of their next home console will be carried out precisely to fix this issue.
If it was on the contrary, they should even extend the Wii U’s lifespan.
As low as the Wii U’s sales are, it’s pretty much a fact that first party and exclusives kept it afloat despite the lack of multiplats.
I’d say that’s evidence enough of how strong Nintendo’s ability to keep a system alive is.
That, and they just keep on drawing in more indies, despite haters saying “no one is making games for the system anymore”.
From a business stand-point, it’s smart to get third parties onto the NX.
But if they do nothing but release old ports of last-gen games, then that could do more harm to the NX than good.
The Wii U’s starting line-up is proof of that; third parties were literally POISONOUS to the system due to the low quality of the released multiplats, many of which could not be blamed on the specs due to the games being PS360 games, like CoD: BOPS 2, that the developers did not include all the content of and thus killed off their own sales potential.
And when those games failed, the sour reputation of those games dragged down the chances of other third party games selling, as well, meaning actual decent games like Rayman Legends could not meet their own projected sales targets for the system.
All in all, third parties have done more harm than good to the Wii U, as far as multiplats go.
The NX needs to avoid that mistake by being focused more on new games, than on old ports.

I dont agree 100% lets say its a 40% chance that with the changes in Management/Decision making from a new President who is more used to dealing on the business side and not from a developer stand point like Iwata was, plus the New blood on Devs in Nintendo, i believe there is a chance of a bigger third party lineup, at least slightly better than the one on Gamecube (which had good exclusives) and we cant say that everyone has a ps4 or xbone at home, i would say we mostluy have a Nintendo console and a good PC with Steam…

And I also believe the NX will get the games like Dark Souls 3, Elder Scrolls 6, etc. etc. I think Nintendo has finally realized that if they can get all the third party blockbusters and have their first party titles on top of that they could dominate the market again. Look, they already tried having a console with just first party titles, and it failed. Why would they try the same exact thing again? They won’t, I assure you. Nintendo doesn’t want to be the second console, they want to be the first.

Nintendo always says they’ll get third parties or that they’re “interested” in third party games, but it never bears any fruit. They always fuck it up, not just in showing any interest in actually getting those games on their system, but by developing a system that requires more from third parties than other consoles. Why should they focus on a making a game that needs to take advantage of a different control method and interface when the risk is too high? Nintendo didn’t help either by not supporting the system out of the gate (even they didn’t know what to do with the gamepad for over 2 years….), so that didn’t help things either.
And Nintendo has stated in the past that they “aren’t competing with Sony and Microsoft” – it’s complete bullshit, of course, but that combined with the way they’ve handled 3rd parties for the past decade and their continued insistence on standing out from the crowd with stupid gimmicks leads me to believe that it’ll be more of the same unless they actually do an about face and drastically change their tune. Unfortunately I have little faith that they will do that. They’ve always been stubborn, and have been behind the times in many aspects (2 console generations behind full size dvd storage – late to the game with their shitty online infrastructure, as well as with HD, etc).
If they want even a remote chance of enticing 3rd parties to their console they need to ACT like they want it.
Considering the majority of their consoles released 5 years apart, it makes sense for the NX to do so next year.
That, and it would give third parties time to make this port work; we don’t even have confirmation that they’ve got dev kits yet, so there’s no way they’d fit a graphically demanding PS4 game onto it this year, if that’s the case.
They’ll need time to figure out the new system and what it can do.
The best time-frame for allowing that, would be a 2017 release.
There’s nothing “official” about the dev kits but if dev sources keep confirming it “unofficially”, and given the probable release at the end of this year or beginning of next, you can be damn sure they’ve already been sent out – most likely last October when the sources claimed they were sent out. Obviously you don’t just believe every source, but it would be foolhardy of Nintendo NOT to have released them at that point. A company begins working on their next console almost immediately after releasing the previous one in some way or another.

In other words, the developer is making a guess as to when the console releases rather than saying “Oh yeah, it’s coming out in 2016”.
When people use the words “Most likely” it’s mainly due to their assumptions that they’ve made over a course of a few months following the trend of people saying that the console MIGHT release in 2016.

I don’t have any issue with that at all and that part of the game. For someone who is not British born (or should I say English is not my mother tongue) I will make mistake at any time of the day.
My point was that even me, who is not English born I can accept a British and American spelling. I highly doubt that it has to do with WB Games, Activision, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft. I think it’s from either CAPCOM, Bandai Namco, or Square Enix.

K, so if everyone has dev kits that means the hardware is final right? And if so that means that 920p rumor about NX being it’s native quality is less than likely considering this so called “Graphically demanding” game is likely coming.
Actually, that was already disproven by devs stating the NX isn’t 900p native.

Also, there’s a thing called “early dev kits”.

Well if most developers don’t have a devkit yet I think we can safely assume the Home Console NX won’t be coming until 2017. Developers need a couple of years to make games, and Nintendo won’t make the same mistake of having a weak selection of games at launch.
But other developers DO have the dev kit already.
So really, it could mean the NX might still see a 2016 release.
Which version of the dev kit would it be? If it is the first version then that is a long way off from being close to a final product. There is usually about 5 verision of dev kits.

Not necessarily. Both have said that they want to extend the length of this gen as much as they can. I don’t believe it will happen for a myriad of reasons, but the possibility is there.
With that tech in those boxes it would be hard to extend their gen. Yoshida already said thus gen will not last as long.
That was the main counterpoint I had in mind. The other one was that I don’t see them outselling their predecessors. We’ll see, I guess.
