To celebrate the fact that CryZENx has reached the milestone of 40,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel he has released footage of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 64 and Donkey Kong 64 recreated in the stunning state of the art Unreal Engine 4. The footage has to be seen to be believed so be sure to check out the video, below.
Great job!
However, I’m sad these non-official footages with Nintendo characters are the only way to tease Nintendo fans nowadays.
Weird though, because this isn’t doing anything to me. The Unreal engine is a pretty good engine but you really see the standardization in it. Same movements, same animations, annoying head wobble.
I see, but let’s not forget that:
1) Unreal engine, once fully and properly explored, is able to provide amazing results;
2) All the Unreal engine videos with Nintendo characters we’ve seen so far are fan-made, i.e., people passionate for Nintendo who do not do the job aiming a professional cut-off; that’s the reason by which we know there’s still room for improvements.
-||They wouldn’t be looking this nice if they remade the entire game though since that takes a lot of space||-
Besides being time-consuming. Those people have their lives to live.
-||Of course, the Empire doesn’t let the workers to die from exaustion||-
The gamers will die from exaustion waiting for a new Metroid (FF is out of question here) and a new F-Zero, though.
Man, there’s SO many games I would love to see Nintendo make HD versions of. These two games are some of them. Anything remade in HD from the Nintendo 64 era would look SO dramatically improved. I hated the polygonal look and dark graphics of the N64. Even though it had some awesome games.
I used to hate those jags as well. Graphical wise, the N64 was terrible, although, as you mentioned, it had had incredible games.
So far, considering Zelda WW, MM and TP: while the first was vastly improved, the second and the latter were facelifted in a such poor way — in my opinion. So, sometimes I’m afraid of wishing Nintendo to remake/remaster classic games…
The N64 was really powerful for its time, way more powerful than its main competition the PS1.
Yes. Sadly it had a serious drawback — the cartridges. But, despite of that, the N64 introduced the 3D gaming, which was and still is a noteworthy achievement.
Retro Studios needs to hire that guy. Imagine a new Donkey Kong Country video game powered by Unreal Engine 4 only for Nintendo NX systems.
-||I don’t think he would be able to take the pressure||-
he’s right and i don’t think retro studios have nothing to do with this sort of thing.

Nintendo could learn a thing or two from the people who made those. I don’t think I’ve seen anything on the Wii U that looks as good as what’s on the video.
Zelda Wii U looks way better. Not to hate on the guy because he did a great job but this pales in comparison to Zelda Wii U.
I’m going to have to disagree. The art style for Zelda Wii U makes it look kind of cartoony and flat. The best rendition of Zelda has to be the Wii U tech demo from a few years ago though, I will say that.
We can agree to disagree then.
I like the OoT part, but the DK64 one i didnt like. It just didn’t look like DK game anymore. Also the animations are really bad. But he did an excellent job for one non professional guy.
Nintendo needs to start making their AAA games with Unreal 4. Hopefully that rumor about NX supporting Unreal 4 is true.
it might be true but i need proof to believe that this rumor is actually true.
These videos are meh. It’s not bad for a fan-made project. But it’s annoying seeing comments like “wow, this is amazing, Nintendo should do this!”
If Nintendo produced amateur looking environments and animations like this, you guys would be having a fit. Again, I know it’s fanmade. But if this were real, it would be pretty horrible. All the obvious premade assets and textures. The absence of art direction. Especially that DK section lol.
I guess all it really comes down to is, most Nintendo fans are impossible to please.
