The 2D Super Mario Games Have Accumulated More Than 118 Million Unit Sales

We’ve already shared information on sales data regarding the 3D Super Mario games, but now we have similar data for the 2D Super Mario games. The 2D Super Mario Games have accounted for more than 118 million unit sales on Nintendo home consoles. Of course, Super Mario Bros on the NES is the main factor for that, considering that it was bundled with the NES console and sold over 40 million copies.

    1. That gave me a good chuckle. I know it’s a “Wii U has no games” joke, but I’m a bit inclined to agree with you though. Other than Smash 4, I don’t really play anything else on my Wii U anymore.

      1. you don’t have Xenoblade Chronicles X? Ironically I don’t touch Smash 4 anymore, cause it’s trash. Yet my Wii U has not been turned off in nearly 4 weeks (LITERALLY) I’ve had Xenoblade on the whole time.

        1. Nah, I tried Xenoblade Chronicles on the New 3DS and it didn’t do it for me. The fights seemed a bit clunky and the general gameplay felt a bit slow. If the sequel is anything like it’s predecessor, then I’m sure it wouldn’t be a pleasant experience for me. Smash 4 is still fun, though I will admit it does get dull fighting a dozen spamming Bayonettas and Corrins on FG after a while. The only reason I still play smash is because I can play it on the gamepad while watching TV. I don’t even have my Wii U hooked up to the TV at the moment. I’ve mostly been on my XB1 playing Halo 5 and still trying to finish some of the games on Rare Replay. Oh and on my 3DS, Super Mario World of course!

  1. *eye twitch* Super Mario World has been outsold by New Super Mario Bros Wii!? Ugh! Filthy casuals! I bet 75% of the people that bought that game would complain about Super Mario World being too hard & quit after the 3rd or 4th location.

    1. To be fair, NSMBW was included with Wii systems for quite some time. Also, it was a pretty decent game. I had fun with it. Nintendo went crazy after that though. Releasing 2 NSMB games in the same year (2012) that barely even did anything new. There’s the gold coin thing in 2 and the Baby Yoshis (that barely even add much to the game besides making it way easier than it already is) in U. Not to mention NSMBU stayed at $60 for a very long time. It was the first HD Mario game… But that is just ridiculous.

  3. Yeah complain complain about rehashes. Yet when is Rare going to make a Banjo Kazooie for the Xbox joke? Or when is another Crash Bandicoop game coming or weak as knack or W101. At least Pikmin 4 is coming.
