Rumour: NX Will Have x86 Architecture And Interact With Smartdevice Apps

A verified Reddit user named Untypedhero has posted alleged details on the future NX system, pointing out that it will be able to interact with smartdevice apps, handle ports of current-gen games and will have support for an additional screen, as well as other details listed below:

“As promised, I’ve decided to share some more NX information with you. This is second-hand information from trusted sources (like last time) and I have little reason to doubt its validity.

Here you go:

  • x86 architecture.
  • Backup data to Nintendo server (most likely My Nintendo).
  • Support for additional screen.
  • Can handle ports of current-gen games.
  • Will be able to interact with smartdevice apps.
  • Using NX software will unlock My Nintendo reward points.”

As with all NX rumours they need to be taken with a pinch of salt, as nothing is official until it has been confirmed by Nintendo themselves. However, it will be interesting to see if these are legitimate once we learn more about the NX and its development.

The stickied comment underneath the post reads “This user has been verified by the mod team. We have confirmed that he has connections to Wii U developer(s) and/or development hardware and very likely has knowledge about the NX via those same connections. This verification is sort of general/open ended and I unfortunately cannot verify specific details on a point by point basis.”

  1. Second screen might be one of the better things if at all true. I will put two TVs in my house to accommodate co-op play no question. Split screen sucks

    1. It means second screen as in the wii U gamepad. Or like 3ds. Also all these things have basically bin confirmed like the x86 is not even in question, we Nintendo has too because of demand. We know AMD already all but said they were making “new” (so not the ps4k) chips. Nintendo already said they well do that with my Nintendo, and already said they were going to make connected apps. We already know all this stuff

      1. I do know that those things have been talked about… but why not a second video out port? It doesn’t specifically say that this isn’t the case and that is something home consoles should have

      2. X86 has not been confirmed and is not known. Everything else you right nintendo said it. Multiple times.

        1. When PS4 first came out why was people saying Power 7 inside Wii U was better. Four years later now X86 is better and people glade NX supposed to get X86.

          1. Wii U is not completely Power 7. X86 is just what most people are use to. Architect means nothing. It is the software with the architect that matters.

                1. Oh. So if it is still custom made then cool!!!! No off the shelf products then. What manufacturer makes the base X86 before Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft add their special uniqueness to the product? I think IBM was responsible for the Wii U for the Power PC.

            1. It was something alright, I knew a lot of people that hated the little thing, but I loved it a lot. The console design, the mini disc, and the controller. That console to me was perfect.

              1. I miss the music that played on the screen in the menu if you didn’t start it up with a game inside of it. I want that theme back so I can fall asleep to it again like in the old days!

                1. If I remember correctly all of the consoles had a start up like that. The XBOX had a bland weird sounding one, the PS2 had a pretty cool one but the GCN one, that’s the one that took the cake. It was earie, yet relaxing, it felt like it came right out the Metroid Prime OST. Oh the feelings.

                  1. For me, that music got me ready for Resident Evil remake, Resident Evil 0, & Resident Evil 4 on the GCN. :D

  2. Fake or not, this one better be fucking true! “Backup data to Nintendo server (most likely My Nintendo).” If we get a 3rd console from Nintendo where we can’t backup our save data or digital purchases to a cloud so we can redownload later if our current console fucks up beyond repair & we can’t recover our save data, I’m gonna be beyond pissed. In fact, this should be a feature for the Wii U since we now have Nintendo Account & My Nintendo activated. Oh & where the hell is cross save & cross buy for games that are on both Wii U & 3DS!? I’d be more inclined to buy Hyrule Warriors Legends if it meant I could take what I’ve done on the Wii U version on the damn go by way of the game on 3DS.

    1. My external hardrive died and I lost all my smash trophies of an entire year ;_;
Plus Mario Maker stages and a lot of other savefiles. I don’t want to buy several hardrives as backups

      1. I know the pain! T_T Went through 2 Wiis & had to start over from scratch with Endless Ocean 2. :/

  3. Out of all the rumors, this one seems to be the most believable. With Nintendo even admitting that it’s become very difficult for them to put out games at a faster rate, they know they need help from 3rd parties so the NX having x86 architecture makes all the sense in the world. If this turns out to be true, I just hope Nintendo doesn’t handicap their own in house and 2nd party developers by using this architecture. I hope they’ve been trained well

    1. If anything it should make it easier for them because it’s an actual computer architecture rather than a modified one. They might have a little bump like they did with HD, but if they do I doubt it’ll be as much of a hardship as that was for them.

    2. Architect doesn’t matter. It is the Middleware that will be use. The can use power pc agree as long as the Middleware is solid. Dev opens rarely code to the metal anymore. Middleware is the important part. Wii u Middleware had a poor start. Early dev kits for Wii u didn’t have a lot of support and that’s some of the reason some developers stayed away. As long as the hardware support the engines developers use then 3rd parties will develop for any console.

    3. i doubt that this might be believable and i seen some how people trying to start up rumors about the NX controller but i can tell that they might show the trailer of the NX console its just like how they did with the Wii U but they can still support the Wii U and 3ds once the NX launch.

      1. I don’t really see that happening bro. If anything Nintendo may release a few cross platform games for both the Wii U and the NX but once the NX is on the market for a few months Nintendo’s primary focus will be on that platform and maybe the mobile gaming space. As Kimishima has said, he expects that the NX and their venture into mobile gaming will generate ” Nintendo-like profits ” for the company. If the CEO of Nintendo is saying all of this then expect for the Wii U and even the 3DS to get minimal support at best

        1. well come to think of it i think the company will take the Wii U off the market once the NX launch but i seen that you said the NX will be on the market, but i think nintendo is going to take new directs on the NX gaming platform for some few experiments and give us a few info about it at E-3 and i think they will do a lineup for the NX like they did to the Wii U and 3DS.

  4. well there is one rule I have, “if you keep hearing the same thing over and over by rumors, then it must be true”. I still want nintendo to say something about all of this…they better hurry up before they fuck over fans with false rumors like a few here in the past such as “duo gamepads”. I am not going to believe it until then. But these are starting to change my mind but I’m still going to wait and see.

      1. And so what if the orginal Xbox had X86? And the Xbox outsold the Gamdecube and? Now Nintendo playing catch up. Or now are we going to say its stupid for Nintendo to move to X86 now? Make up your mind

        1. The PS1, PS2 nor the PS3 didn’t have x86 and the PS1 & PS2 were the highest selling consoles of their generations whereas the PS3 was no. 2 behind the Wii so what’s your point? The PS4 is the first home console from Sony that is using x86 architecture so please read and research before you make yourself look an ass….welp….too late for that….smh

  5. Forgive my youthly ignorance, but not knowing what x86 architecture is I looked it up.
But the definition is very technical, how does x86 architecture directly affect a console?

      1. I just want a juggernaut console that for just once, gives Sony and Microsoft some pressure. Simply because I know Nintendo has the ability to make a powerful, easy to use, and innovative in its own right. Something that brings back the old fans and captures the minds and hearts of young people too. Idk, I know its possible.

  8. I can’t wait until Nintendo finally confirms things about the NX. The NX is certainly shaping up to be the most highly anticipated Nintendo console ever! SO many people are hoping that Nintendo finally comes through with the NX, and that it will destroy the competition once and for all. I just hope we’re not all let down again.

I fully believed in the Wii U before it released. Believing it would destroy the competition. But then I had to sit back and hear nothing but people bashing it. And I couldn’t really argue with anyone because I knew that most of what they were saying was true. It was almost embarrassing.
