Considering it’s a Japanese poll, it’s not super surprising.
I’m really happy Persona Q made it up to No. 4 on the 3DS list. Seriously, not enough people talk about that game. It was awesome! I almost like it more than Persona 4 itself.
A little bit surprised to see Xenoblade at the top of the Wii list though. I know international audiences loved it, but I heard reaction was more lukewarm in Japan.
Also like seeing Bayonetta 2 high up. Another game that deserved more attention.

Every list frustrates me. The amount of Dragon Quest is disappointing. I understand that Dragon Quest is a great franchise, but Dragon Quest being at the top of every list, and outdoing almost every Zelda and Mario release is completely inaccurate, even for a Japanese poll.

Dragon Quest is huge in Japan – even bigger than Final Fantasy. Each new game is released on a Sunday or a holiday so people can stay at home and play it. So yeah, it’s not surprising that they like it more than Zelda and Mario.
It’s absolutely accurate for Japan. Deal with it and stop saying stupid shit.
Yeah, the biggest thing to keep in mind with this list is that is for, and by, the Japanese gaming market. I have Japanese friends who have told me that Dragon Quest III was a bigger deal than Pokémon Red/Green when it was initially released. RPG games, in particular, have always had a much bigger impact than any other video game genre in Japan.
I totally forgot about Baten Kaitos :O I loved that game <3 This list is pretty accurate, though.
Agreed – I was really happy to see it on the list – both BK games are underrated gems.
I have never played a single Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest game.
I miss the magic that I used to feel (and still do) with the NES. There was just something SO amazing about that console. So revolutionary. Todays games have better graphics, depth, stories, and pretty much everything. But that NES and SNES magic has never really been repeated since. Unless it’s just because I’m older now. I love many of today’s games, but they just don’t have that charm of the NES.
Umm U list is incomplete without Zelda 2017.
But of course this is Japan and it shows without TP on GC or Wii.

Which leaves me wondering where the heck MOTHER 2 is in the Super Famicom list, since its by far the most popular MOTHER game.

No Metroid at all…. no Super Metroid, no Prime, nothing…. Japan is really not into this franchise….
And Super Smash Bros. at #1 surprised me.

Metroid has always pretty much geared towards American players. It does little things the Japanese really care for.
Heck, Super Metroid’s poor sales were part of the reason Metroid went on a long break. And Prime didn’t make it because they’re not huge fans of 1st-Person shooters.
Exactly why Other M & Federation Force were/are getting made: both are using stuff the Japanese love to get it to sell in Japan. With Other M, it was turning Samus into a submissive to a strong male figure. With Federation Force, it’s using a cutesy artstyle that’s big in Japan (chibi artstyle.) Japan loves their submissively cute shit.
Wii Fit is #3 and Mario Galaxy is #5. Wow no wonder the WiiU failed.
