If you see a Nintendo Entertainment System on store shelves this holiday shopping season, you haven’t entered a time machine. (Unless everyone around you is wearing acid-washed jeans and neon leg warmers. If that’s the case, you may have unknowingly walked through a rift in the space-time continuum.) The most likely scenario is you are setting eyes on the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, launching in stores on Nov. 11 at a suggested retail price of $59.99. That’s right: The NES is back! But this isn’t the same NES that you fondly remember. This new nostalgia-fueled system is a near-identical, mini replica of Nintendo’s original home console and plugs directly into your high-definition TV using an included HDMI cable. The console comes complete with 30 NES games built in, including beloved classics like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, PAC-MAN, and Kirby’s Adventure.

“We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo’s original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is ideal for anyone who remembers playing the NES, or who wants to pass on those nostalgic memories to the next generation of gamers.”

The system comes packaged with an HDMI cable, an AC adapter and one NES Classic Controller, which is patterned after the iconic design of the original NES controller. But you really just want to know the full list of 30 games, right? Feast your eyes on the fantastic collection of NES classics included with each and every system:

  • Balloon Fight
  • BUBBLE BOBBLE
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr. ™
  • DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
  • Dr. Mario
  • Excitebike
  • FINAL FANTASY®
  • Galaga
  • GHOSTS’N GOBLINS®
  • GRADIUS
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Mario Bros. ™
  • MEGA MAN® 2
  • Metroid
  • NINJA GAIDEN
  • PAC-MAN
  • Punch-Out!! ™ Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics
  • SUPER C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. ™ 2
  • Super Mario Bros. ™ 3
  • TECMO BOWL
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

There’s a little something for everyone: a nice mix of timeless favorites, cult classics and maybe even some games that you never got around to playing. Each is sure to bring back memories and produce plenty of new ones. You can even enjoy playing several of these games with two players by attaching a second NES Classic Controller, which will be sold separately at a suggested retail price of $9.99. A Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro can also be used (each sold separately).

When connected to a Wii Remote controller, the NES Classic Controller can also be used to play Virtual Console NES games on a Wii U or Wii system. Playing these retro games using a retro controller makes the experience that much more authentic. And if you ever need to step away from the NES Classic Edition in the middle of a tough level (or take a break to call one of Nintendo’s helpful Game Counselors*), don’t worry about losing any hard-earned progress. Each game has multiple suspend points, so you can start where you left off at a later time, no passwords needed.

What’s old is new again with the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition. Relive past glories. Finish off that boss you never beat. Save the galaxy and rescue the princess!

      1. I dont think I’ve heard of Faxanadu, but Krustys Fun House was/still is awesome! Get yourself an emulator and play those. That Simpsons game was a licenced game so idk what the chances are of that ever returning again.

        1. Krusty’s Fun House was a very fun game and I played the living hell of it and it was so underrated but you can not forget about Bart’s Nightmare. That game was truly phenomenal

  1. Wow, that’s actually really cool! As someone who was born after the NES era, I never really got to experience Nintendo’s first console in a genuine experience. I would love to get this so I can play classic games I’ve already played (via Virtual Console), but on the console that started it all with the controller that started it all.

    1. Same…….my NES stopped working due to being so aged a couple of years ago and I just have to get it for nostalgia reasons. Now only if they’ll make a mini-SNES…..that thing would fly off of store shelves

  4. All this money I’ve spent over the years on virtual console games…. TIME TO SPEND SOME MORE MONEY!!!
On a more serious note, this is probably one of the best things Nintendo has done in a long time. I’m almost more hyped for this than Pokémon Sun and Moon (which incidentally comes out a week later than this RIP wallet)

  6. I’m getting one for sure. It’ll be a great console to start my little sisters on. Minimal controls and simple graphics. I wonder if there will be room for a second controller?

      1. I’m actually really excited to just have that controller to play VC games, i’ve been wanting one of these that attaches to the wiimote since the original wii

  7. Anybody know if Japan is getting a Famicom version? I would almost spend a little more to import one just to mix it up a little bit since I’ve played all of these games so many times.

  8. Is dis a follow up to da wii? Cos da only ting they did since den was da controller add on wat had a screen on it.

      1. The picture you posted is a sega genesis clone it was made by atgames not sega. This new ones classic mini isn’t a clone its actually made by Nintendo.

          1. Yes but that 3rd party mini-Genesis can’t upscale those games in HD like the new mini-NES can plus you can’t save your progress within the game either. The mini-Genesis was just intended be there for people who loved the Genesis but if you have the original Genesis there’s really no reason to get that thing unless you haven’t played those games that comes with it or at least some of them

          2. Lol! Dudes don’t know Sega did this month’s and years ago. This is just another idiotic thing from Nintendo to try and sell me off my childhood. At least we can sleep good at night knowing that Nintendo will have at least 1 good system on shelves this year, and I don’t mean the fucking Wii U

  14. The Top of the console looks to be one piece. So, no opening cartridge door… :( Besides being the size that it is, if the door did work the slot would be too small for an actual cart. Sorry the dream of actual carts working seems to be dead. Plus Nintendo would not make any money off people using actual carts anyway. Kick that idea to the curb!
The real question, is it net based and can you download more ROMS to the unit. Kind of like the virtual
    console. That would be sweet!
