Upcoming Platformer RIVE Is Delayed – Might Skip Wii U and Release On The NX

The Sci-Fi platformer RIVE, that was due to be released in September this year on the Wii U, has now been confirmed to be delayed by developer Two Tribes. The title could even skip the Wii U and be released on the NX, dependant on the when the developers are happy to give the game the green light for release.

“We won’t release RIVE unless it’s a solid 60FPS, and if that means delaying it to a future platform, we will make that call and make sure Nintendo fans get the perfect experience.” Two Tribes said in a recent interview with Nintendo Life.

“The market has also changed. The game was supposed to ship over a year and a half ago, and things are a lot different now. Nintendo is exiting the Wii U market early in favour of the NX which means a long tail in sales is not looking likely. So that is the business part; do you release a game on a platform in its last days or on a new one that’s better suited and can reach gamers for years to come?”

When asked how long it will be before the game is released on a Nintendo console Two Tribes advised: “At the moment I can’t easily answer that. We’re going to try one last time to perfect the Wii U version, but if that fails we’ll need to focus on the future.”

  1. What those developers and even Nintendo failed to understand is that people did not buy the wii u cause they were happy with their wii. Also for the parents and those with limited budget Nx will be too expensive. Furthermore People get burnt with the wii u and some will wait. So my take is the adoption rate of the Nx will be slow and could be a failure is Nintendo put the same marketing effort as the wii u. Taking my point forward For take two it doesn’t make sense to bet on a potential fan base which may not be there. Wii u owners don’t have much game to play so I would say it would make sense to have a wii u and Nx version.

  2. @ Amano: Dude? The WiiU is much more than just a “console”. for me it`s the PC i will use in the future. I will soon ditch Windows completely (in the 4th quarter of this year). I will use a custom WiiU (customized) and install a special Ubuntu on there and work with that instead shitty Windows-PC ;)And i will start using Wiiu for Homebrew too.

And about the games-part: Well, i have 70 Retail-games for WiiU now and plan to buy at least another 10 Retails this year. So i would think i still have enough games to choose from.

I don`T care about this simple boring 2D-platformer PS4-Port “Rive” here. They can go to hell these developers. They should release this game on a toaster. I still wouldn´t buy it. I ain`t going to waste my money for 2D-platformers from Indies in the next years…

Fast Racing Neo DLC is coming dude! And it`s coming FAST! in 2 months we will have 8 new tracks for that cool FRN-game.

And i think after WiiU i will simply stop gaming. I will stop my gaming-hobby and not buy any NX/other consoles in the future. The gaming-industry clearly doesn`t deserve my money any longer i found out.

    1. The WiiU is just a console. Just because you are going to do a bunch of cool shit to it, won’t change what it is for most people. :)
