Nintendo Says It’s Looking To Appeal To Both Causal And Core Gamers With NX

Shinya Takahashi who is the General Manager of Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development has revealed the demographic that Nintendo is aiming for with the NX platform. In an interview with Nikkei Trendy, Takahashi says that the company has designed the NX to be an appealing product for both casual and core gamers and also addressed the subject of software droughts. Here’s what he had to say:

“I can’t talk about this in detail yet, but we are aiming so that neither people who like games nor moms dislike it. I think that I want to release a game device that both customers who have much experience in gaming and customers who haven’t played much can enjoy greatly.”

“We are paying attention to that. Having said that, it isn’t about drastically increasing the amount of development staff. To be specific, software development teams and teams that create the development environment are thinking about the NX lineup together. For example, a software development team may have a request ‘if we had this library, then development would progress quickly’. Teams creating the development environment respond to that by considering ‘if we prepare an environment like this, then development will go smoothly’, and they actually discuss with development teams and hear their opinions and prioritize those things. We have built a stronger cooperative relationship compared to what is was before and are making efforts so that software can be developed smoothly.”

    1. Ah… The famous Kyoto whore.

You were once a thing of beauty. Someone I was proud to be in union with.
But the desires and temptation of “needing” and “yearning” for more got the best of you didn’t it?

Sure, you just looked at first.. But you started to lick your chops and bite your lower lip as you desired the Casuals. For they were pleasant looking to you.. And that’s when it started.. When you became the Kyoto whore.

Soon you would be warm and moist for them and “open” yourself wide to them, giving birth to abomination Shovelware only to abort it. You know what you did and continue to do is wrong yet you still desire to do it. You still make promises to the core audience that was committed and married to you for years, saying “me love you long time” and ” I will make things right” ,, “Pleas’a Unndaastannd”,, only the be moist for the causuals as you say this. Bitch don’t you know I can smell between your legs from across the room,, for I know you so well.

I’m sorry baby but I’ve moved on. I know a beautiful Xbot women who gives me everything I need and can make me squeal like a Pig on a bad night. She is everything you could of been but are not. I know a Sonyian goddess who makes me feel like the king of the world. Who excites me and gives me more than I need and just when I thought she had no more to give, she smiles at me in that cute way I like her to do, gets on her knees and BLOWS MY MIND… She has me screaming PEE ESS FOUR…

Kyoto whore, I’m not going to lie, I do still have feeling for you.. And if there is any chance of us later something a lot of things would have to change. I feel the need to choke you by the neck and dominate you.. I will make you submit to me, you have no choice.. I still remember that light and dark grey dress with the red lettering when we first met,, who such a long time ago..

      You’ll always be my bitch..

  1. Whatever the appeal of NX is, just make it right. The Wii U was initially intended to cater hardcore games, and it really ended up been adopted by those since no one but Nintendo loyalists wanted a sub-powered, dated box. Once the hardcore demography had been set for it (Wii U), what we have seen was only casual, easy-to-beat, games being released, with one or two exceptions.

    Be coherent, Nintendo!

        1. Did it? All anyone says is that the system was only adopted by Nintendo diehards and with the amount of sales that makes sense. They might have whiffed on the kid market actually, as well as the “trans-console” core gamers, but Nintendo fans, for the most part, bought a WiiU

  3. I’m beginning to believe that appealing to the core gamer is an after thought when comes to Nintendo’s plans for the NX, because when they have to tell everyone that they are appealing to both casual and core gamers, with core gamers being mentioned second, that’s not a good sign! I’m just gonna wait and see how this plays out.

I miss the days where almost every game came out on one console and they were released in a completed form, good times man, good timesTuT

      1. Actually, he’s partly right.
Games were complete a lot of times when they came out back in the 8 and 16 bit era.
The one console statement though makes me scratch my head.
Maybe he never heard of Sega or NEC with their turbo grafix?

        1. Well yeah, the “complete” part is true- nowadays almost every game has DLC, which *can* be done right (Mario Kart 8, Fire Emblem Awakening/Fates, Skullgirls) but can also be done poorly (Hyrule Warriors) or just plain badly (Street Fighter IV). And then there’s releasing games that are definitely unfinished and then you get Day 1 patches and stuff like that, which to me, speaks poorly about your integrity as a developer.

          1. If you look at Koei games they are famous for abusing dlc in their games, for instance look at Ken’s rage on the Wii U, or Toukiden Kiwami on ps4, so if you compare Hyrule Warriors DLC to the DLC Koei released for their other games they actually held back on abusing the DLC for HW, I mean it’s still terrible none the less, but not nearly as bad as Ken’s Rage on the WiiU. I wouldn’t be surprised if even their future titles got the same treatment, like the Berserk game that is coming soon, I have a bad feeling that game will be riddled with DLC like an unstoppable cancer on steroids!

  4. I will always buy a Nintendo console just for their exclusives but it will never be my only console of choice. Nintendo consoles are my side consoles not my mains lol

    1. I’m gonna miss the days I had a Nintendo console as my main if NX doesn’t do something drastic & similar to PS4 & Xbone.

  6. So, basically they’re saying that moms hate the PS4 and Xbox One and that’s why Nintendo’s consoles need to ditch voice chat and user-friendliness.

  7. Your inbound NX hype train is starting to derail, Nintendo. You best reach the station soon.

And please, for the love of the gods, make the loyalists your utmost priority with this one.

  8. Just no more games like:

    -New Mario 2.5D
    -Amiibo Festival
    -Mario 30th Level Editor
    -Splatoon
    -Federation Farce
    -Starfox 64 Reboot
    -LOZ Dynasty Warriors
    -LOZ Trifarce Zeroes
    -Kirby Trace
    -Yoshi Yarn

    NO MORE SHALLOW SPIN-OFF TITLES!

      1. So for the sake of two Koei Tecmo-owned characters, you would rather do all that extensive level grinding, gold skulltula hunting, material collecting, and those adventure map missions AGAIN?

As hot as they are, it’s not worth. I pooled a majority of hours and money in the Wii U version (and I don’t even play Dynasty Warriors). I’d go crazy if I have to do that all over again.

The average person will never finish Hyrule Warriors too soon (let alone Hyrule Warriors Legends), so why make a sequel?

        1. Well, that’s how most of the Warriors games are. Some people dislike them for how repetitive they are and all the grinding to level up characters, etc… But I like them. Dynasty Warriors is one of the only hack and slash games that I can replay the levels for hours with different characters. Hyrule Warriors is very similar to the other games and they honestly could have just ported DW8 to Wii U and added Nintendo characters, but they chose the Zelda universe to do it with instead. Which is better! Anyways, the Warriors games don’t drastically change with every new entry and the fans already know that. There’s so many of them! (Like over a dozen) and others like One Piece Pirate Warriors and Warriors Orochi got sequels, so Hyrule Warriors getting a sequel wouldn’t be that bad. Dynasty Warriors isn’t for everyone and they aren’t Game of the Year types or nothing like that, but for me, they’re addictive and pretty fun.

          1. You admit they don’t drastically change in each sequel, you admit that there’s so many, you admit that they’re repetitive and not for everyone, but you want another one?

Hyrule Warriors already went above and beyond with nearly every last Zelda character (who aren’t owned by Capcom), we even got a handheld version and plenty of DLC. What more could they possibly do to warrant a full second game.

At this point, I’m burnt out from Hyrule Warriors. Even The Completionist went crazy from trying to unlock EVERYTHING (and this was when updates got started upon the making of his review). The game itself is the pure definition of quantity. In short, you’re not even supposed to finish it, you’re supposed to play it and not run out of things to do. And why would buy the second game, when they’re not finished with the first one.

            1. That’s Dynasty Warriors for you! If Hyrule Warriors was too much, the other Warriors games might make you go insane then considering how many characters and missions there are to complete. For me, it’s not about completing everything. I’m not a completionist. I just like mowing down hundreds of soldiers with flashy combos and special abilities. :D

    1. Splatoon & Hyrule Warriors should not be in that list. Same for Super Mario Maker. While I hate most casual games, Splatoon & Mario Maker are okay as they can appeal to core gamers, too. As for Hyrule Warriors, it’s a good hack & slash war game that is mindless fun & it doesn’t need to change too drastically. Asking Musou games to be more than that is like asking Mortal Kombat to quit being a fighting game.

  9. Nintendo are aiming for the widest possible audience with NX, not even remotely shocking. They know how lucrative it can be from the wii/DS era how lucrative it can be to tap into the casual market. Of course since the rise of smart devices they know how fickle those fans can be. Appealing to both the core and casual market in a balanced way will always be tricky but if they can pull that off the pay off could be huge. It’s a big if but the rewards make the endeavour worth pursuing.

If ever there was a time to be worried. Brace thyself! The time is upon us! Nintendo might be pyching us out!

Or this Shinya Takahashi is full of shit and doesn’t know how, nor should be allowed to speak upon the behalf of Nintendo.
His words are not reassuring. They’re unsettling. Please get this parasitical slacker out of the press!

      ||The only thing High Command needs to do is to fix the flaws of the Wii U, namely droughts, marketing and less civilian nonsense…||

  11. Like another said, it should be a red flag to see they mentioned casuals before core gamers. :/ Also the fact they said so moms won’t dislike it. Which moms are they fucking talking about exactly? The ones that flip out over every little thing and form committees & rallies to boycott T for Teen rated games with a little harmless bit of brief nudity or mild language or M for Mature rated games that shouldn’t be for people under 17 to begin with instead of actually being a mom & PARENTING their kids to tell them showing off your body or cussing in public is frowned upon by some people? Or the moms that do actual research on games before buying it for their children to see if it’s something they want their child to play?

    1. My point is, if you are going to support both sides, you can’t censor shit for ridiculous reasons in Teen & Mature rated games to make the one side happy because then you are just pissing off the other side that you supposedly said you’d support.

        1. Not to mention the false teaser trailer promising Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem only to give us something not even remotely similar to Shin Megami Tensei or even Fire Emblem. The game is just way too bright for a SMT game.
