Super Nintendo Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary Today

Celebrating its 25th anniversary today, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System arrived in North America on August 23rd 1991. Released just under a year after the Super Famicom launched in Japan, the Super Nintendo was the successor that the legendary NES deserved. While it never sold as many units as its predecessor, the SNES continued Nintendo’s amazing legacy. Many of the titles released for the Super Nintendo are beloved classics. Both Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past are considered by many to be the pinnacle of their respective series. As well as this, the SNES didn’t just continue older properties. Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country and Star Fox are all beloved Nintendo series that originated on the console. What is your favourite game on the Super Nintendo? Tell us in comments below.

    -Etc.

  2. My favorite SNES game would have to be Mega Man X.

But a few others I love to this day would be Super Metroid, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World, TMNT 4: Turtles in Time, Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2, F-Zero, Super Castlevania IV.. and many more that I don’t feel like typing lol. The SNES had so many great games.

    1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||You get a point for mentioning Super Metroid first besides your favourite game…||

  3. Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Mega Man X and Final Fantasy III (A.K.A. VI) are definitely my top five. Shadowrun and E.V.O. are a very close six and seven. And finally; Super Kid Icarus is a game I wish had been made.

  4. simple I really can’t tell you what is my favourite game. Yeah the Super Famicon did not sell has much as the Famicon but it has defined Nintendo and in my eye was more successful than the NES.

  5. Best console ever made when you look at the game library, also the last Nintendo console that was really legendary. After that things got worse and worse each generation although the n64 and gamecube are worth a mention.(ps1+2 where better)

Some of my favorites with great memory’s:

Castlevania, Donkey Country 1/3, Double Dragon, Illusion of Gaia, Killer Instinct, Lufia 2, Megaman X, Mortal Kombat, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Star Fox, Street Fighter, Super Mario Kart, Super Marior world, Super Metroid, Terranigma, TMNT, The legend of Zelda, The Lost Vikings.

Allot more worth mentioning I could easily make a top 100 with awesome games, but I definitly played these games the most.

    1. I live in europe we never got it on the snes, I ignored it on the emulator, never bought it on any of the sony consoles eather. Waiting for the right time wich will probally be ones I buy the nvidia shield mediaplayer, so I can emulate it on my tv.

I’m sure its absolutely amazing though.

  6. Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country 1-3 (even though I still haven’t beaten any one of them yet lol), Super Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Street Fighter 2, Killer Instinct, Super Mario RPG (another game I haven’t beaten yet even though I was at the final boss), & a few other games that I sadly can’t recall the names of. I guess I should mention Link to the Past, too.
