Dragon Quest Producer Says “… It’s Like Nintendo Took Half Of The Bill!” For Dragon Quest VII

Fans were delighted to hear that Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is  being localised for the west, but what we didn’t know is how much involvement Nintendo had in the process. In a recent interview, Dragon Quest VII producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto admitted that Nintendo basically took half the bill for the game and really helped it happen for the fans. You can read our review of the game, right here.

What has Nintendo’s involvement been in the development process?

The sheer translation volume of Dragon Quest VII is more than 2 times Dragon Quest V, so it’s a gigantic game. It was really hard to make the business decision to localize the game. With Nintendo, we were able to work it out and work hand-in-hand and make it happen together. To be completely blunt, it’s like Nintendo took half of the bill!

    1. no, i want nintendo to do that more often and i also want some games that are only in japan to be localized, i don’t care if its jap dub only with english translation (Zangeki no Reginleiv is one of them)

      1. I remember unlocking a trophy of a character from that game on one of my Smash 4 games. After looking up the game online, I’d like to see that get localized. Sadly, in the back of my mind, I’m worried Nintendo Treehouse might mess it up with silly censoring and replacing some shit with god awful memes. :/

  1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

    ||We take half of everything, half your lives belong to us and the other half isn’t as good as the half we save…||

  2. Still have my fingers crossed. I’m hoping this opens a gateway to the Dragon Quest Monsters games being localised. Although it’d probably be after Pokemon Sun and Moon get released.

  3. I honestly don’t like the sound of this. Please tell me Nintendo’s Treehouse fucktards didn’t dig their filthy censor happy claws into it? Then again, most of the censoring for Bravely Default & Second were probably all Nintendo Treehouse’s doing. Whatever. As long as they don’t fuck up Dragon Quest VIII, I’m good.

    1. If this continues, at this point, waiting for a Mother 3 western release is like Valve fans waiting for a confirmation of Half-Life 3: we’re probably never going to see it happen.
