The Creator Of Senran Kagura Is Interested in The NX, Talks About Nintendo’s Reaction To Senran Kagura

Senran Kagura series creator and producer Kenichiro Takaki recently took part in an interview with DualShockers. One of the topics discussed was the NX, where Takaki says “I’m very interested in the NX too, and I’d like to eventually work on the console”.  Takaki also talked about Nintendo’s reaction to Senran Kagura, saying that “there weren’t actual restrictions, or anything that they actually told me not to do, but I did feel the pressure from Nintendo. But, you know, after we discussed so many times, we managed to make it happen. With the first game there was a lot of confusion on Nintendo’s part, because they didn’t really know the gameplay, and they only saw the sexy side. Yet, after they saw what the actual gameplay was like, they didn’t have any problem because they knew what the game was all about. For Senran Kagura 2 it wasn’t that hard”.

    1. LOL. I really don’t understand the artist giving all the women the same exact boob size. As a guy I can say giant boobs like that are not really that attractive to me. Giant fake tits are overrated especially in Anime.

      1. Well hey, with all the extra meat, you could say it makes the game more “fleshed out”. Games that are fleshed out are a “plus” in my book.

      2. I also hate the lack of variation in boobs. DDs are fine but it’d be nice to see a nicely sized C cup every once in awhile, not DDs every single female. No way is every single person in the world going to be THAT well endowed without some kind of unnatural work being done on them. Even if the franchise wasn’t revolving around fanservice, I’d still have a problem with the lack of variation.

          1. “Disgusting! These guys are treating women like they’re objects, arguing about not enough boob size variation from a female cast of video game characters!” Well these are video game characters so they actually ARE objects!

Sorry. Just a thought I’m having if some of those types of “feminists” popped up here & saw our conversation. lol

  1. Senran Kagaru fan here and I would be absolutely thillled to see Takaki work on an NX title. Technology should be good enough for a console title if it’s really an improvement from the Wii U. Not surprised to hear the bit about Nintendo’s negotiation given they care if the game has good gameplay despite the fanservice (one of the few qualities that draw me to the series other than the lovable cast).

My boyfriend would be just as excited if he seen this, but he’s going through tough times after losing his second grandmother earlier. He’s definitely not in good shape and he didn’t want me to go with him to visit his grandfather. It’s going to be a long week for him to hold this heavy burden while he grieve. Sorry mates, I know better than to bring such depressing news to MNN.

  2. Off the topic, but still about anime games, I always wondered why every game that’s based on some anime (or just anime style characters) is always OUTRAGEOUS in price. Even years after the games release? I have never seen an anime video game that had a fair price. They’re always 30 and 40 dollars or more. At least for Playstation 3 and 4, and Wii U anime games. It’s as bad as Studio Ghibli films. Always too expensive.

    1. My guess is that it’s because of the Japanese culture. Japan seems to place value on things a lot more than people in the West. So naturally, they bring their thought process to the West. There are probably exceptions to the rule, but it seems to look like this is the reason (though, again, it’s just a guess).

      1. (I probably haven’t explained it completely well, but hopefully you’re able to connect the dots and understand what I’m talking about; I’d rather not have long paragraphs of explanation in my comment.)

  3. This will never happen because Nintendo are a bunch of censoring prudes even with rated M titles, and even if they allowed it nobody will buy it because of all the cut content due to Nintendo censoring! Most logical individuals with some common sense will gravitate to the uncensored versions on other platforms, so this is a failed idea before it even began lol:D
This A major reason why Nintendo will never be at the top of gaming ever again because they don’t offer type of games that interest adult gamers, and when they do they butcher it to no end! You will never see games similar to GTA, GOW or any other game that allows mutilation and lots of blood on a nintendo console because of Nintendo’s prudeness even towards rated M games, I mean these idiots are still censoring words like “Damn”, I mean really in 2016!?

    1. It sounds like you didn’t actually read the article.

“…there weren’t actual restrictions, or anything that they actually told me not to do…”

“…they didn’t really know the gameplay, and they only saw the sexy side. Yet, after they saw what the actual gameplay was like, they didn’t have any problem because they knew what the game was all about.”

It sounds like Nintendo was perfectly fine with the game as soon as they understood it better. They probably would have only had a problem with it if it used unnecessary sex and violence to cover up mediocre gameplay. Also, Nintendo will never have any games with blood and mutilation? I guess you missed Bayonetta 2 and Devil’s Third; both Nintendo exclusives.

      1. Pretty sure he’s upset because of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, which Nintendo was involved in because their own property was a part of it.

It’s not like the game was meant to be rated M since TMS was fairly light by CERO standards to begin with. It’s just that they were taking one too many precautions with the bikinis and hot springs when that stuff would have still gotten it a T rating. It’s kind of the thing I doubt Nintendo will really let go of given what happened with recent games like Fates and Fatal Frame V.

Sorry mate, I know better than to talk about issues like this when I’m feeling down for the night. My apologies.

        1. No need to apologize. Those are excellent points. When it comes to Nintendo’s own properties I can forgive them for any censoring decisions they make. After all it’s their property they can do whatever they please with it; and in the end they have to make the decision they feel is best, even if we the fans disagree.

He seemed to be implying though that Nintendo goes around forcing 3rd parties to censor their games, and that simply isn’t the case.

          1. Actually, the only case that he can make is when Midway was forced to get rid of the blood in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat, but that was a long time ago…

In any case, some people need something to whine about (probably in order justify themselves or something). I’m surprised no one has compared Nintendo to the Chinese government (now THAT’S something to complain about, especially if you live in the country).

              1. “MK2” as in “Mortal Kombat 2”?

… didn’t I already mention about Mortal Kombat?

If that’s not what you were talking about, then I’m not too sure what “MK2” is supposed to mean.

        2. I had zero intentions of buying Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, those type of games do not interest me in the slightest, especial games about idols. Any game featuring singing or based around popstars in general will never interest me. My comment is based on facts, Nintendo will never allow a games with excessive violence, blood, and depictions of mutilated bodies on their consoles, and if they do they will ccensor it straight to oblivion and back, thus forcing gamers to buy the uncensored versions on other platforms that’s just fact or have we forgotten the SNES vs Genesis fiasco when everyone chose to buy the sega version of MK!?

          1. I feel like Mad World, House of the Dead Overkill, Bayonetta 2 and Devil’s Third are good examples of games that contradict what you wrote there.

  4. I really like the gameplay of these titles but playing these games would probably make me feel like a 12 year old boy in his puberty. Not dooming it or saying that it should be censored or anything…but here the artdirection and motif of the game really made me skip them.

  8. I can’t get into this franchise, and I’m big on fanservice, because I can’t stand games or even anime that have it to where all the females have the same size boobs. I want variety, damn it! Exactly why I hated the earlier DoA or Mortal Kombat games in the mid 2000s: they all wanted to give most of the female cast the same damn size. Booooooring!! lol
