There’s No Stereoscopic 3D In Pokémon Sun And Moon

One of the Nintendo 3DS’ major selling points won’t be a part of Pokémon Sun and Moon. While many people now play 3DS games in 2D anyway, I’m sure some fans will be disappointed to know that stereoscopic 3D will only work in one of Sun and Moon’s mini games. Pokémon X and Y only really used 3D during its battles, but according to both GameXplain and IGN, this is no longer an option in the upcoming games. Oddly, 3D gameplay will only be available in a photography side quest. Will you miss seeing battles in 3D? Tell us below.

      1. I’m just saying I personally don’t really mind the absence of 3D in Sun/Moon. I disliked how half-hearted the 3D was in X/Y and OR/AS (with 3D only being in battles and in caves), and I think the game is better off without trying to fit in 3D just because the system can do it. With the New 3DS, this game probably could have accomplished the same 3D seen in X/Y and OR/AS with the frame drops and all, but it’s kind of obvious that this game was already pushing the 3DS in terms of the scope of the world and higher graphical fidelity.

    1. And so you’d prefer to sacrifice the frame rate, and risk the game crashing mid battle using 3D (which has happened for me in OR)? If the normal issues prevailed, I’m pretty sure people would complain about them. If you lost playtime, you’d be annoyed, right? They’re giving so much more content than usual. 3D Pokemon-snap is in game. Mini games in the PC, you can ride/fly/surf on the actual 3D model of a Pokemon, your pokedex is a legendary. There’s so much, one feature doesn’t have to ruin it.

      1. He doesn’t like the loss of an effect he liked & used. You hated the feature. So because a small few hated it, it should be removed? That’s pretty selfish of you to say. ESPECIALLY when you can turn said feature OFF! I guess some Nintendo gamers really do hate options.

      2. More specifically, they seem hate it when people have the option of something THEY don’t like. I don’t like anchovies on pizza but I won’t try & stop someone that DOES like them on pizza since it’s an OPTION I can turn down.

      3. And if one feature ruined it for him, oh well. That’s his issue and he’s allowed to have it. It’s his money, after all. See. Another nice little option the guy has now: not buying a game & saving that money for something else. Maybe a game on another system or something to put back as savings for a Nintendo Switch.

    1. No, its just only the 6th, 7th & 3rd gen 3DS pokémon games that don’t play in 3D. All other 3DS games play in 3D outside of those 3 games.

  1. I mean, from the start of the generation, Nintendo said 3D was optional for developers.

And anybody who played X/Y or ORAS would know that the current (or soon-to-be previous) gen Pokemon games maximized the use of the hardware. Turning on 3D would absolutely kill the framerate in many scenes, and more hardware-intense scenes wouldn’t allow 3D altogether.

I was kinda hoping the New 3DS would give the developers more flexibility, but then again, we wouldn’t want these games to be exclusive to the New 3DS or anything like Xenoblade Chronicles if the developers felt they absolutely needed the improved hardware to get some things working…

    1. I think it’s less a case of Game Freak pushing the 3DS and more so poor software optimization in their end. With the standard consoles able to run visually impressive titles like Monster Hunter, Megami Tensei, Luigi’s Mansion, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear with stable frame rates and full 3D, I don’t think there is an excuse for how poorly the last Pokémon games ran.

      1. I agree, I can’t understand how such impressive games run buttery smooth yet pokemon can’t. There doesn’t seem to be a fundamentally obvious reason why.

        1. Exactly, it be different if half the devs utilized it and the other half had problems with it, but it isn’t the case.. xenoblades, full 3D, every Zelda , full 3D, fire emblems, full 3D , yaiko watch, full 3D , metal gear , full 3D, the marios, full 3D, the kirbys, full 3D , monster hunter series, full 3D.. now that I’m typing this is just realized.. every single title, from a slew of different devs that I have are all FULL 3D EXCEPT Pokémon and now not even battles.. that is 100% a software optimization problem, Pokémon has pretty much the worst graphics of all the ones I’ve listed, the game is great but definitely not because of the visuals(without 3D, the moves in 3D when battling are pretty nice looking) so yeah.. it’s has nothing to do with the complexity of the game and has 100% to do with the dev team being amoungst the bottom of the barrel for Nintendo which is ironic since Pokémon, quite arguably the most successful and profitable franchise ever created has made more money for them then quite possibly all the other dev companies combined and they are the worst ones at making games to take advantage of the hardware.. it’s so bad it’s laughable

          1. The problem is GameFreak stuck with NES & SNES quality hardware & software for so long that they were behind everyone else that came out around the late 90s by the time they finally did start using 3D models. They have to play catch up more than Nintendo as a whole. @.@

        2. Maybe the fundamental reason has more to do with the holiday season and filling that gap in sales. They certainly can’t rely on the Wii U titles or NES Classic edition.

    2. I have the New 3DS XL and have played hundreds of hours of x, y, or, and as and I never experienced a single issue with framerate regarding the 3d. I have no idea what everyone is talking about. No lag, no stutter, no dropped frames. It was all completely fine and smooth with 3d on max the entire time, sincerely. I’m a kind of person who is also very alert to framerate and it seemed to lock at a minimum of 23.976 fps for me, which is hardly a slow-down when that’s considered the cinema standard.

      1. I’ve noticed a slight dip in speed of framerate when playing them on mine. But it doesn’t bother me because I actually enjoy the slow down a bit. The slow motion effect is nice when a move is truly awesome but you don’t get to see it very well because of how fast the move is.

      2. No dropped frames is an exaggeration. My New 3DS XL does lag a bit when I use the 3D. Not very much, but it still does. This is pretty sad really. As much as I love Pokémon, the developers for it (in terms of graphics) seriously suck. There is absolutely no excuse for it to have been a problem ever. I’ve played games with better graphics, AND FULL 3D. So far, I’ve only played X. I honestly assumed they fixed the framerate issue in OR/AS, and that they’d be able to include full 3d in Sun and Moon without lag. Today, hearing that OR/AS did NOT fix the issue, and that Sun and Moon aren’t going to either with the added fact that they are dropping 3D all together is extremely disappointing. I expected more. I know this game will probably be amazing, but I expected things like this to improve, and I’m not unreasonable for doing so. They need to get it together, not because I care so much for graphics, but because it shows how little effort a is being put into such an infamous and iconic franchise as Pokémon.

  2. So? X and Y barely used 3D and the effect doesn’t really even add to the game like it does for Mario 3D Land or Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon.

While I won’t be getting Sun or Moon, I wouldn’t feel as if I miss doing any of it in 3D.

  3. Quite disappointed. I hoped this game would have BETTER 3D and not WORSE 3D. Like, couldn’t they at least include some 3D on the New 3DS? Why did I even buy that thing, aside from Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and Hyrule Warriors Legends?

    1. I feel exactly the same way. Just got a NEW 3DS XL as my first ever DS because I was finally hoping on some Pokémon to play handheld that I was hoping to at least be similar to the Pokémon XD game on GameCube and have 3D Pokémon battles. I feel very let down. I also blame Nintendo for not having bothered to already release a NEW 2DS withiimproved hardware. If they had done that it could of gave The Pokémon Company more to work with in bringing that to the game without having to alter game code too much to support parts to work just for certain types of DS. That would of also boosted sales for Nintendo to release the NEW 2DS XL right now since tons of parents would be rushing to get them for their kids.

      1. Pokémon Company (TPC) is just there for handling interation licensing shit and doesn’t have anything to do with developing the games or anything at all, really. It’s a pencil pushing subsidiary that was founded in 2003 if I remember right and I don’t think they are involved with media released in Japan. Correct me if I’m wrong.

        1. In fact, Nintendo even owns the English names of the pokemon. TPC only owns the Japanese ones, and maybe some other international names, I’m not sure.

  4. I was hoping to see more 3D… not less. I know a lot don’t like the 3D but I have a New 3DS and enjoy the stable 3D of it and almost always use it. This is a huge disappointment for me. I loved the 3D battles, it felt more like I was there.

    1. I completely agree. I’m quite bummed that they dropped it; I constantly use the 3D on most of my games that support it. I was hoping that they could utilize it further with the capabilities of the New 3DS to add more life and depth to battles and outside of battle foreground and to enhance background scenery and depth. Oh well, I’m still getting the game, but I’m sure that I would’ve enjoyed it more fully with the 3D effect.

  5. That explains why the camera minigame had such a low framerate in the trailers. While I don’t really mind the game being in 2D, I am fairly disappointed that we never got to see a Pokemon city in stereoscopic 3D. That was what I wanted the most out of the 3DS and its 3D feature. I always imagined, back when I was in 8th grade, before the 3DS release, the Diamond and Pearl/Black and White engine, with the rooftops of the buildings of each town slightly jutting out of the screen. I wanted to feel like I could reach in and touch the world. In my opinion, this is truly a missed opportunity. However, it is one I can live without. My hype for Sun and Moon has not faltered with this sad news.

  6. Well that’s disappointing. Not a deal breaker, but disappointing. I’m surprised that a lot of people don’t use the 3D when they play. I never experience any frame rate drop with it (or if I do it’s not significant enough to distract me from the gameplay). My personal experience so far is that the 3D only makes games better.

      1. False comparison, especially since shoulder buttons enhanced and expanded upon gameplay, while HD rendering in is all media and is a logical step forward for visual technology – not to mention the benefits of HD for more than just gaming but other applications.
Lastly, the context for my comment was for the handheld specifically, and I’m a fan of 3D movies when done correctly (Avatar, How To Train Your Dragon, etc), as it can look stunning. But on the 3DS, it is nothing more than a cheap stunt that does little for the system, which is why most people don’t use it.
But by all means, keep bringing up actual good tech advancements in gaming like haptic feedback (something I think won’t be fully utilized until VR and AR get going, however), joysticks, and wireless controllers and compare them to the bullshit that is 3D on the 3DS.

        1. I think 3D land is a pretty good case study for how designing with 3D in mind can impact gameplay, so I don’t see it as a false equivalency. I feel that playing games in 3D is a pretty natural evolution as the medium has constantly faced issue with conveying 3D space with a 2D display, and games are really the best medium to really make use of the technology. VR seems to further push the capability of 3D displays, but as an oculus owner, set up and support is still troublesome, and the convenience of glasses free 3D has yet to lose it’s appeal to me. As 3D can deeply impact gameplay, I think it’s a more beneficial feature in relation to gameplay than 720P displays and wireless controllers. Any distinguishing hardware and software feature can be called a gimmick. It’s not a bad word.

          1. I agree that the word gimmick doesn’t always mean it’s bad – but in most cases, when something is referred to as a gimmick, it’s a negative connotation. The Wii’s motion controls are a gimmick. The 3DS’s 3D is a gimmick. If done properly, it can move past such a connotation, however, but as it is implemented currently for the handheld, it’s pretty damn useless. Obviously that’s subjective, but it’s a general sentiment viewed by a great number of people.

            1. 3D gives off way more clearity & anti-aliasing then HD. Plus its a million times better than draw distance, and I haven’t even gotten around to the three-dimension part.

          1. Color, sure. 3D? Agree to disagree. To each their own. 3D in movies can be exceptional, but what the 3DS does is a parlor trick in comparison. It’s a gimmick that the majority of people don’t use and don’t care for when playing the handheld.

            1. From the limited number of polls I’ve seen, it seems that the majority of 3DS owners actually do use the 3D feature. I know the system could be annoying in it’s first iteration, but it was greatly improved for the new 3DS, adding facial recognition and a greater FoV. I definitely don’t think it’s useless. It adds a level of immersion to games.

I wouldn’t call 3D a more logical step forward than HD in the general sense, especially since HD is almost required to make 3D look decent; but I do think 3D is the next step after HD, and I definitely think it was the next logical step for a Nintendo handheld. After all, Nintendo couldn’t possibly deliver an HD handheld back in 2011, so it made sense for them to take the next possible step, which would be stereoscopic 3D.

As a final note, considering VR is currently emerging and that it uses the same stereoscopic 3D system as the 3DS to provide an immersive experience, it seems clear that 3D is indeed the next possible step. It also seems kind of ridiculous to think that people can have such an immersive gameplay experience with VR, but call the same stereoscopic 3D on the 3DS a useless feature.

              1. Ridley 4 Smash Switch X3 (Dragon Ball Super & the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z Kai both air 1/7/17 on ! Yay!)

Thanks to an IGN email, I hear they could be bringing 8K televisions in the next 10 years. Ugh! I just got a 4K TV & not all video games have fully moved into 4K quality yet and there is already talk of 8K!? Slow the fuck down, businesses! Let’s improve what we already have first before jumping into the next big fucking thing! Oh & let stuff become a lot cheaper, too!

              2. Ridley 4 Smash Switch X3 (Dragon Ball Super & the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z Kai both air 1/7/17 on ! Yay!)

Anyway, I look forward to the day we have 4K 3D TVs that don’t cost an arm & a leg to buy. Right now, I’m gonna have to stick with my 4K TV for awhile because a 4K 3D TV is still way too much money.

              3. “From the limited number of polls I’ve seen” – problems with that are “limited”, and “polls”, especially when they’re just non-scientific and put up online. I’m also saying that VR with 3D will most likely be good – but the 3D as it stands now is boring and limited in its execution.

                1. Yes. The information is limited and we can’t assume that the polls represent the full picture (and I never suggested that they do); but that’s all the information available to us. All I said was that this limited information suggests that most people use the 3D feature.

On the other hand, you said that the “majority of people don’t use” the 3D feature, without any evidence to support such a claim.

                  1. Touche, though I’ll then tout various boards and articles I’ve seen online and then say that even if many people may play it in 3D, it’s not something that they find compelling them to buy the game or essential for gameplay.

                    1. Final Fantasy Explorers and Rodea the Sky Soldier didn’t sell in the west because one had no 3D effect and the other had the weakest 3D effect. Pokémon main games sell because they are Pokémon games. After Earth was the worst selling Will Smith action movie because it was a movie that was suppose to be 3D but wasn’t 3D. If all upcoming movies were in 2D, you would see box office sells drop like a brick, because we can see them for free via bootleg disc & internet & so fort. The only reason for most people to pay to see movies in theaters is for 3D & 4D (its also 3D).

                2. 70% to 80% of Americans see 3D movies in 3D, and 88% of people internationally watch 3D movies in 3D. This doesn’t take into account 4D screenings which also use stereoscopic 3D. 4D screenings are enjoyed from america to china. The 2DS released everywhere except japan and south Korea in October 2013 and then in japan in 2015, but according to Nintendo it only sold 2 million as of July 2016. Sony said the PS Vita only sold 9 million global as of before holiday 2016. In South Korea they are anti-nostalgia, so 2D would never sell in that country, they prefer fancy controllers (wiimote and gamepad and so fort) over nostalgia controllers (classic/pro controllers). 3D nas more practical uses then virtual reality does. You can only use VR for romance and documentary movies, and select video games, but you can use 3D for everything, like using 3D in VR because there is 2D VR as well. People don’t care about HD, the first year’s sells of 3D TVs is better than the first year’s sells of HD tvs, and same goes for 2nd 3rd & 4th year comparisons, and lets not forget that HD tvs have a 50 years gap between them and color tvs, while the gap between 3D & HD tvs is only a few years or so. And when it comes to physical media, when people can’t find a copy on 2D blu-ray; they just get it on DVD from redbox to buying, because people don’t care about HD. People with at least two home consoles during the Wii era would use their Wii to stream Netflix on their HD tvs amongst most gamers, because people don’t care about HD. HD is just a marketing ploy, because 4K HD movies have always existed since 1924. While sells of 2D Blu-rays & DVDs have their prices at $9 & lower (both disc are 30 refresh rate). Meanwhile, 3D Blu-rays & 4K Ultra HD (both disc are 3D, and are 120 refresh rate & 240 refresh rate respectively) sell at $30 to $40, including movies that are 5 or more years old. So clearly consumer demand speaks, and it has spoken. The majority of people love 3D. When the 3DS was sold out everywhere in every country in the world, you could still find the 2DS on store shelves in half of all retailers.

                  1. Ahahahaha. No. So wrong it hurts, dude.
                    Where to start? Yikes.
                    1) 3D box office in US/Canada was 14% in 2014, 15% in 2015. If done well (Avatar, many CGI animated films, most recently Dr. Strange, etc., it can be a boon. But in many cases it’s gotten to the point where it’s not necessarily detrimental but it doesn’t add a whole lot to the film to justify the added price. Internationally, it’s much higher, sure. But ok?
                    2) The 2DS was released several years after the 3DS when it had already saturated the market – most people didn’t buy a 2DS because most people didn’t NEED to.
                    3) Actually, if you look at CES and the other tech shows, they’ve moved away from 3D as the main “wow” factor and to 4K (and soon 8K), etc, which is also why many store chains have 4K and HDR as the biggest selling points.
                    4) “You can only use VR for romance and documentary movies, and select video games, ” LOL says who? You? Ok, sure. lol. Such an absurd statement.
                    5) “And when it comes to physical media, when people can’t find a copy on 2D blu-ray” – most blu-ray releases come with a dvd copy. Redbox (and dvd rentals in general) have been declining drastically year over year, by the way.
                    6) Your statement on 4K and its history is also silly because it was filmed differently given the technology and there was no availability of content for people to watch outside the theater, let alone on 4K at that time.
                    7) It’s only worth the price if there is a demand for it – for the 3D sets without 4K, not so much. For 4K sets yes. Although, um, there are no 4K 3D movies right now, so I’m not sure what you’re looking at…..oh wait, you must mean “Journey To Space”, where it includes separate discs for both 4K and 3D Blu-ray. MY BAD.
The Blu Ray Disc Association’s finalized specs in 2015 for the new line of 4K Blu-ray discs weren’t designed to transfer 3D in UHD resolution. So please tell me where the 3D copy is when looking at the contents of the 4K sets of The Martian, Deadpool, Suicide Squad, Mad Max Fury Road, and others. Also, your assertion that they’re all $30 or higher is incorrect, as it certainly depends on the movies. Many 4K sets of movies are, but there are a number of 3D sets that you can get for under $30, and even lower – a simple check of Amazon, Best Buy, etc will show you that. So you kind of prove my point….for 4K and HD over 3D. Thanks for that.
                    8) “The majority of people love 3D.” Based on sales data for movies, only when it’s done well for certain movies….so overall…..no, not really.
                    9) “When the 3DS was sold out everywhere in every country in the world, you could still find the 2DS on store shelves in half of all retailers.” /sigh – see #2 above. Good grief.

                    1. The 2DS cost $80 while New 3DS XL cost $200, so why could you still find a 2DS?
And there are almost 8 billion people on the planet, but the U.S./Canada combine population is only 350 million people. Plus over 80% of people internationally see movies in 3D. They still charging $30 & up for 3D blu-rays.

                      1. A. I attribute the 2DS’s low sales to 1) not being as portable, 2) no way to protect the screens, so you risk damage to them, 3) smaller screens, 4)New 3DS has better tech (enhanced processors, etc), and 5) in my personal opinion, it just looks more gimmicky and something for younger children. Since the market was flooded with the DS and then 3DS, people are already on board with that particular handheld and feel more comfortable with it, which I also see as why the Playstation, and to a degree Xbox controllers have not changed much throughout the years. Unless a console/handheld is completely shelved and/or updated like going from the Game Boy to Game Boy Advance, people won’t acclimate as well when there’s an option available that they’re used to, in most cases.
                        B. Your other “stats” were bullshit, and while 3D is indeed more popular internationally, it’s still not close to 80% saturation rate.
                        C. Yeah, at Barnes and Noble or specialty stores that still sell them at MSRP until they have to vastly discount them to meet Amazon, Best Buy, and other chain store prices.
You’re still wrong.Oh, and in reading your other post – no, After Earth didn’t fail because it wasn’t in 3D, it failed because it was Shymalan had become a laughing stock (the marketing team did its best to keep his name off everything) and the movie was bad, and I’ve already refuted your ignorance regarding 3D (and the horrible “4D” shit). I love how you keep pulling your stupid theories out of your ass with no basis in reality whatsoever. Really entertaining.

                      2. Well, every study ever done, shows that the majority of people over age 50 hates 3D and that the majority of people under age 50 love 3D. The generation gap keeps growing bigger and bigger. Where as old people have more disposable income and fewer variety of interest, the younger generation have only started to have disposable income and have a larger variety of interest dividing where and what they spend their money on. Millennials and younger, make up almost everyone who goes to physical retailers for video games and groceries in America. The older generation tends to be anti-social like gongress & Senate, which is why there is so much gridlock. The PS Vita bomb because it was the only handheld not doing 3D. I’ve seen mostly only people no younger than 44 years old with a 2DS. People can’t fit a Switch nor tablets like iPad mini in their pockets, but that doesn’t stop them. You know everyone is going to be carrying around a Switch.

                        1. Cool, show me those studies please. FYI it’s not surprising that older people don’t like 3D as much as younger generations, so that goes without saying with a lot of new tech. My father hates using a computer. Parents needs to call their kids for help setting up stuff, etc.
Also, lol and wtf at the anti-social thing? There’s gridlock in congress regardless of the age, and if anything politicians are some of the most social people out there, so….not sure what you’re smoking but it must be some potent stuff, dude. The whole generalization on older people not having as many interests is also something you can’t prove – I can just as easily say that many people when they retire have even more time to work on their hobbies.
Also, fyi, the Vita didn’t bomb, nor has it bombed. In fact, it’s still going strong in Japan. The problem is that Sony didn’t really support the handheld and didn’t know what to do with it for a time….and the fact that Nintendo has such a huge market share for the handheld market.
And lastly, you DON’T know everyone is going to be carrying around a Switch. Frankly I’m concerned that Nintendo’s strategy is outdated and that most people aren’t going to be gathering together like they have in the commercials to play together. Taking the console on the go for themselves, like on an airplane trip? Sure, sounds reasonable.
To summarize: every one of your posts has had bullshit theories and “facts” pulled out of your ass that I’ve either refuted or shown to be disputable and problematic. Please, just stop.

                        2. Not only do around half of moviegoers for every 2D & 3D movie see the 3D movies in 3D, but an extra 40% of Americans only go to theaters to see 3D movies only, as well as an extra 60% internationally and an extra 90% in China, that’s nearly half the people in China who will only see 3D movies only, and that’s straight from the horse’s mouth itself: http://pro.boxoffice.com/interview-reald-looks-at-the-future-of-3d/

The 2DS only sold 2 million in U.S., and the PS Vita has only sold 2 million in U.S. as well. The PS Vita did sell 4 to 5 million in Japan. The Wii U has sold 15 worldwide, while the PS Vita has sold 10 million worldwide as of dec. 31 2016.

                          1. I’ve already, yet again, refuted your b.s. logic on the 2DS and Vita. As for your one article, in lieu of the actual stats from the MPAA and others that I’ve posted which give a more accurate picture:
“I’d say that at least 90 percent of the Hollywood imports are 3D movies.”
First problem: “I’d say”, so he doesn’t know exactly. Second problem: “Hollywood imports” – China only allows a certain number of U.S. movies to be released in China, and it’s a short list, so no, that doesn’t reflect your numbers. But even so, I’m not disputing that 3D is big in China. That’s also specifically 3D in film, and one cannot make the correlation that simply because 3D in film is big in China, that somehow a lot of people play the 3DS with the 3D on, especially when it’s really sub-par 3D, which has been the basis of my entire argument this whole time, which somehow went over your head yet again.
Lastly, fyi, it’s unclear whether the guy is talking about 40% of Americans seeing movies in 3D, or a 40% increase in the growth of 3D in America. Either way, the stats I’ve posted refute that, and you’re STILL making bullshit statements about them “only going to theaters for 3D” when you’re just trying to extrapolate that from, again, unclear numbers from one guy that he hasn’t backed up with any sort of evidence, and which as already stated, goes against the MPAA and other statistics for the growth of 3D in America.
So yet again, the hole you’re in is getting deeper. Please continue while I get out the popcorn.

          2. The 3D effect on 3DS is great, just look at Castlevania & luigi’s mansion & donkey Kong & lego city & jett rocket 2 & crashmo & sonic racing transformed & pokémon mystery dungeon gates to infiniti & sega 3D classics & Zelda games & so fort.

        3. I’m guessing because it’s to save rendering power for the trainers since that’s the only real difference to the battle scene. Now the game has to display up to 8 character models at a time as opposed to 4 in XY

        4. I’m pretty disappointed about this. I was pretty unhappy with X and Y. Hopefully battles will at least run decently now, but I’m one of the few 3DS owners I know that really values 3D and plays with it maxed as often as possible.

        5. This only proves GameFreak can’t handle the technical side of things. No wonder they stuck with 2D sprites for Pokemon for so damn long! Stick to handheld & mobile games, GameFreak. It’s clear at this point you can’t handle anything beyond that. That or they are just being lazy & cheap and don’t want to put forth the extra effort to get seamless 3D. While I’m still getting this game, this is a huge blow to replayability. I’m gonna just rush through this game just to collect all the Pokemon then move on. Fuck the story & mini-games. So much for being able to see the entire game in 3D this time instead of just being relegated to battles. I shouldn’t be surprised, though. GameFreak has always been known to disappoint their fans in every single gen in one form or another by removing something some people loved about previous entries in the franchise. This time, it’s the 3D effect that gets the axe.

            1. Seriously? lol Pathetic… Maybe Miyamoto should go work at GameFreak. They could use someone that can actually handle the hardware Nintendo makes.

        6. LOL people that are happy with this because they could not support the laggy framerate on X/Y and Sapphire/Ruby games, instead of being happy that they cut a buggy feature, they should rather be disappointed that they didn’t fix it.

Still, I know that Pokemon are big ass games with lots of content, so having to work on the 3D while sacrificing content is not wise. But that sucks. Lots of games did it properly when having a lot of content, such as Xenoblade, Zelda, Shin Megami Tensei and so on. Only Pokemon sucks at it.

        8. I kinda hoped they just added it then people can decide for them selfs to turn it on or off there is no point in making a 3ds game if it does not support 3d thats like buying a 4k ultra tv and companies say we dont make 4k movies we will just make hd movies of 1080 p
but oh well its not like we can change their what they have decided i will play the game regardless on my new 3ds just for anyone who doesnt have a 3ds and want to buy a hand-held to only play sun and moon just buy a 2ds its cheaper and you have the same quality considering it doesnt support 3d
either way its your money so you decide what you do with it

I know i will be playing

        9. Unfortunately this was a deal breaker for me, canceled my preorder.. I absolutely will not support a lazy dev to half ass shit.. don’t tell me polygon this too demanding that. It’s an option, turn it off it you don’t like it.. yokai watch entire game is 3d and much better graphically with zero fps issues.. they are literally making a sun/moon themed 3ds xl for a game with no 3D.. what a train wreck. No thanks.. thank God I don’t run Nintendo, gamefreK would be fired and it would go to a dev worth a shit.. its utter crap.

        10. I am extremely disappointed there isn’t 3d in the new games, especially it being a 3ds game. Glad my game isn’t corrupt or anything, which is what I thought at first, until i hit up google. I will definitely miss the 3d during battle…I just finished majoras mask which is in 3d the entire game so this is a big disappointment to me.

        11. I personally enjoyed the 3D in battles. It made the battles more immersive. The game is still great though and still enjoying it. But I do miss the 3D thiugh. It was fun watching the battles effects

          1. Let’s face facts, 3D is a gimmick. It always has been, it always will be, and despite the fact that some games have had pretty remarkable effects and have done some interesting things with it, it’s still just a gimmick. If you absolutely need your 3D, then by all means skip these games. Also framerate drops may not affect gameplay for TURN BASED RPGs, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t annoying or worth mentioning.

            1. I understand what your saying but the problem is simple, that “gimmick” is the only real thing that separates the 3ds from all other mobile platforms. That “gimmick” has also been executed flawlessly umongst other developers. The 2ds is 79.99 WITH Mario cart 7, the 3ds xl is 199.99 and doesn’t even include a charger.. given the fact that it’s the last standing handheld, and the 3ds has an excellent sales record.. it’s quite obvious that people want that “gimmick” and pay one hell of a premium for it.. graphic fidelity isn’t it. iPad has phenomenal graphics as a handheld, much more than 3ds can handle.. it’s an option that can be turned off on the 3ds as well. To blatantly disregard it is wrong.. even if the initial launch was 2d because of what you mentioned, there should have absolutely been a patch for 3D on the new 3ds. If your gonna ask 200 with no charger for a system, and create a version for said system exclusively themed for sun/moon, it’s better utilize what your paying 200 for.. again there is a huge disparity between the 2ds and 3ds and the new 3ds 3D is excellent.. I never turn it off.. the arguement that “it would be wrong if the new 3ds got 3D and the old didn’t is a mute point” it’s like saying I’m mad that the PS4 runs much better than the PS3 on games.. I do agree that 2d was probably the option to go initially so everyone has access.. but to not patch in 3D on the new 3ds or release a 3D version for the new 3ds is lazy and unacceptable.. ESPECIALLY with a sun/moon themed 3ds.. now a themed 2ds.. that is just greed if your not gonna run 3D in it

        12. I’ve been playing Pokémon Moon for several days now, and it’s fantastic that they didn’t have stereoscopic 3D points, because the graphics themselves are completely stunning and in 3D already. adding stereoscopic 3D to the game would have seriously stalled the framerate on the older 3DSs, which is what I’m currently stuck with, not to mention completely impractical. Instead of these beautifully done close-up designs we would have been stuck with a linear look-down like the past entries into the franchise, 3D or not. Sun and Moon went into development LONG before the possible release of the New Nintendo 3DS. They used what they had to work with to not only make the graphics more intense and clear, but to make everything easier to look at. the “lack” of stereoscopic 3D doesn’t change the fact that the games are incredibly well done and aestethically pleasing. If they tried stereoscopic 3D we would be stuck with 3D only in special circumstances instead of this constant beautifully defined masterpiece.

        13. Personally, while I enjoyed some of the 3D moments in 6th gen Pokemon (i.e. ORAS’s Elite Four and caves, X and Y’s Battles), if you’re not running a New 3DS, I would imagine, it was just lag city. My Old 3DS XL and normal 3DS both had framerate issues in 3D battles. Also, despite the fact that these are some of the best games in the series, on my Old 3DS XL I’ve seen massive framerate drops in Moon with no 3D in double battles. So having them in 3D I can’t even imagine the slowdown. I can only deduce that it’s because of my current 3DS that these problems are happening, that and all the trainers are visible during fights. 4 Pokemon + 4 Trainers = framerate hell. I would like to hear if New 3DS users experience the same thing. In any case, don’t let the lack of 3D keep you from getting Sun or Moon. They are wonderful games.

        14. I mean, why did I need to buy a 3DS if the games aren’t 3D? I could still be playing on my DSi. It just rubs me the wrong, I feel like a payed a lot of money for nothing. It’s like going to Harvard, and paying Harvard tuition, but you diploma has the name of junior college.

        15. why does it matter I’m pretty sure if they added 3d it would have only worked on the new 3ds this game is so powerful “for a handheld” I think it would have pushed it too far if they added 3d. This is from a person who bought a new 3ds yesterday.

        16. I heard rumors that a percentage of the development team has been working on the 4th gen remake since 2012 or earlier. So 4th gen remake should be full 3D, with an update for previous games to play in 3D. The director of Sun & Moon said Sun/Moon was running entirely in 3D, but decided to sacrifice it for a little bit more better graphics. Smash Bros. Director said the 3D doesn’t even take up 1% of original 3DS hardware, but circle pad pro takes up to 5% of the hardware’s power. Heres a list of great 3DS games: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20161221041107AAqiAo0

        17. That’s one of the main reasons I bought a New 3ds Xl! It fixed the 3d, and now I can’t even use it? What bull crap.

        18. I liked the 3d effect in Y and most of the other 3ds games ive played and ive never had fps drops when using it and certainly never had it freeze on me and made me lose game time. The way i see it if you like 3d get a 3ds if you dont get a 2ds and if you think 3d is a gimmick then avoid the console altogether. Its quite simple really.

          1. The 3D effect is even more better in probably all other 3DS games. I heard pokemon Omega ruby & alpha sapphire (which both these games include Delta Emerald in them). 4th gen remake should be entirely in 3D, and include the first 4 generations regions, including sevii islands. I think water type arcanine is heonn variant pokemon. I hope its all true. And it might be exclusive to new 3DS, which will sell for $79 to $99 with new XL for $149.
