Shortly after Nintendo’s official unveiling of the Switch, Nvidia released a statement detailing their involvement in powering the console. Nintendo’s upcoming console will be powered by a custom Tegra processor. This will certainly excite fans of PC gaming, Nvidia comparing the console’s GPU to “the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards”.
Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.
The Nintendo Switch’s gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses.
Gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.
We’ve optimized the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases. This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.
NVIDIA gaming technology is integrated into all aspects of the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system, which promises to deliver a great experience to gamers.

You guys need to check out the Mario Kart portion! Boo is in there is also a second item slot so you can hold multiple items at once!!!!!! Does this mean new DLC and a new update? will this be updated on the Wii U version as well?
I noticed that too. Looks like a revamped version of the game. I doubt they’ll update the Wii U version as the 2nd item slot alone would fundamentally change how the game plays. Plus they’d probably want these new features exclusive to the Switch (I almost said NX!).
Very excited for this new version though! Maybe they’ll fix battle mode as well 😀

It looks like a sequel- though we saw very little footage, the map they were shown playing on matches no known maps in the original, and new gear and even “hairstyles” were seen on Inklings, as well as a more linear spawn point as opposed to rounded, more central one in the original.

A fix on battle mode or completely revamped battle mode would be AMAZING!!!! We shall see as more info comes in. I didn’t think they would update the wii u version but a guy can dream. :P I know they’ve abandoned the Wii U. I”m sure most of their big games will just be ported over (some like MK8 with new features) so they can sell more on the completed games.
While a return of battle arenas will be nice, I hope they don’t abandon letting us use actual race tracks for battle as I actually like that about Mario Kart 8.
So instead of building their own, Nvidia is basically powering all aspects of the Nintendo Switch. OS to games… sounds good to me

Sadly, I’m not as tech savvy as some of my friends & family would believe, so a gaming PC is not really up my alley. Hence I’m stuck relying on consoles which is fine by me because I enjoy my PS4 & the occasional GOOD Nintendo console.

It’s using Pascal, so it’ll be close/above PS4 power, and that’s pretty good.

Have you see already the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer? If Switch don’t load something like that, will suck and CAn’t compete. They need to have that graphics quality for at least 5 years. :( Not a graphic whore, i prefer gameplay but in this world we have seen what Devs want. They want power.
It’s most likely the Pascal GPU as Skyrim Special Edition on the Home Console Mode looked and played better on the TV screen, and Skyrim is pretty demanding despite not being the prettiest game.
Also, the new Red Dead Redemption 2 does look good, but it’s not really the big leap as I thought it would be. It’s basically the Blaine County part of GTA 5 only expanded upon.

That game alone wouldn’t be able to run on a “Double the power of the Wii U” system.
Most likely the Switch is close to that of the PS4, but when docked into the dock it enhances the performance to above PS4.
Skyrim was released on the last gen systems, which were slightly weaker than the Wii U.
But this is Skyrim remastered edition.

Tx2? Wow more updated than I thought Nintendo would do. I cant wait to see how powerful this really is then. I wonder if this can also be operated like a smartphone or tablet meanng can I download apps etc etc? Plus if ic can pick up on wifi at Starbucks and the Terminals to watch Hulu or Crackle TV. Because if this is able to download Apps, then Sony doesnt need to make any agreements for Crackle TV right? I wonder if it is voice activated?

Lol ps4, Xbox one has more power. We can talk specs all day but at the end of the day Xbox one can pump out 1.8TF and ps4 1.3TF, pro and Scorpio systems aside (ps4 pro with 4TF, and Scorpio having 6TF)
That said It should come out just at ps4 power when docked, and I would imagine at least twice the power of Wii U when mobile.
I would assume that Bethesda demanded mod support for Skyrim, or it would have bin a no go. So that well be interesting to hear how they work that into mobile/home and such.
You got the FLOPS wrong way around for base models.
We don’t really know about the custom chip in the Switch, but assuming it’s mostly a Tegra X1 on 16nm node, then it’s roughly 70% faster than the X1, so somewhere around 500 GFLOPS, I doubt that, even when docked, it reaches more than 700.
Not that that matters since Xbone is being beaten by PS4, so power equal to PS4 is good enough for me.

Anyone who are familiar with Nvidia gpus already know that their performance is way better than AMDs, just look at all of the ingame bench marks comparisons between the two companies and you will know this to be true. All I need is for the NS to be backwards compatible with 3ds games, a new Metroid, A new F-Zero, and a re release/remaster of both Splatoon and StarFox for the NS and I’m good.
Hum now you make me think, if the NX is compatible with 3DS games then that will be for me something I would consider when I decided to purchase it.
