Capcom Is Looking To Revive Some Of Its Older Franchises

Major games developer and publisher Capcom has confirmed today in a press release that it is looking to revive some its franchises that have long since been forgotten. The company has a number of established IPs under its belt including Dino Crisis and Mega Man to name but a few. Here’s what they had to say:

In addition to regular major title releases each fiscal year, Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP. Beginning with MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: INFINITE, a return for the series following a five-year hiatus, Capcom looks to enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich contents.

  1. Hopefully that means that they will also make games for those franchises.I was so heartbroken when I saw X, and just later realized it wasnt a new Megaman X game. But ill content with MvC 4!

        1. I’m thinking of two actually, Sega’s Shinobi and Konami holding Bloody Roar hostage. Yugo, Alice, and Gado are probably suffering from stockholm syndrome towards konami at this point, and that sickens me to no end:{
God I miss Hudson Soft T-T

            1. What!? Goemon is a Konami IP!? DAMN IT!!! So much for one day getting an HD remaster of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon from the N64! :/

        1. Don’t get me wrong, I would love for the MegaMan series to come back full force, but a tv series doesn’t mean shit overall. And after Mighty No 9 happened, it’s gonna be an EXTREMELY difficult battle uphill to get a full on MegaMan reboot

    1. I think it might be too late. There are many great Megaman type games now.
Still, if they try, I hope it’s more successful than Sega’s Sonic has been!

      1. Oh yea true I remember viewtiful Joe and okami great games lol breath of fire to me wasn’t really anything special I played it a little and it seemed kind of generic to me I never really gave it a chance tho so maybe it’s not. But yea I guess there are some worth bringing back lol

        1. Yeah, honestly, I just want another VJ, Okami, and legitimate Mega Man game. I don’t much care for fighters and I’m new to JRPGs. Sega, on the other hand, has a ton of great IPs that I want back :(

      2. BoF is a fantastic series that peaked at 4. They were down to the nail true RPGS. I still love them. If you own a wii u, or N3ds, you should consider picking up BoF 1, 2 or 3. 4 is a PS exclusive and as far as i know, its still not on the psn store. Thats the one i would recommend on playing though, but oh well.

        1. Thanks, that’s good to know. I’m a collector so I own all the consoles they’re out for. I think I’ll start with 1 on the eShop, though, to see if I like it. Or which one do you think is a) the best, or b) the best starting point for a newcomer?

          1. If you can handle older games then definetly go for BoF1, and follow it with BoF2, since that one is a sequel. BoF3 would be a better starting point for a starter in my opinion, that one is a solo entry. But the best one in my opinion is 4. Ignore everything after it unles you really REALLY loved the prior games.

            1. Gotcha, that sounds good. I appreciate the input. I’m the type that likes to go in order (although I didn’t for Fire Emblem, so I thought I’d ask) so I’ll start with 1!

  2. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAPCOM VS SNK 3 AND A REMASTER OF CVS2 WITH ONLINE MODE WHILE YOUR AT IT. YOU MIGHT AS WELL GIVE US A BRAND NEW DARKSTALKERS AS WELL. COME ON CAPCOM, MAKE YOURSELF GREAT AGAIN.

      1. I hope but I better keep expectations low because they once see said “expect an unexpected anounce soon” and it wasn’t Megaman.

  3. They can make a VS Capcom game but not a Megaman game? Just what exactly happen to neglect Megaman like that?

  4. PLEASE!!! Megaman X and Breath of Fire! Dino Crisis would be cool too. Get away from Fighting games and resident evil for a bit

  5. Where the fuck is Power Stone 3 and a REAL Breath of Fire game (not that mobile bullshit)?

Maybe then, I’ll forgive you Cashcom.

  6. -Darkstalkers
    -Cyberbots
    -Red Earth
-POWER STONE RERELEASE ON A NINTENDO CONSOLE! Not just Dreamcast, not just PSP, but a current Ninntendo system. Since its debut during the sixth gen, Capcom has neglected the Gamecube, the Wii, and the Wii U of this game’s release.

  7. Of course the fact that Capcom considers MvC a “forgotten” franchise because it didn’t get a new entry in 5 years indicates what Capcom considers “dormant.”

  8. Megaman and X crossover anyone?
    Castlvania 3ds again!!!
    Ghost and muthafuqin Ghoblins!!!
    Then Nintendo wink Smash…
    Wizards and Warriors
And fix Double Dragon for reals…
I’d keep on going but the Hate is real…

  9. I want a megaman starforce 4 game, there is a thing or 2 they didn’t finish. But what I really need is a megaman ZX 3 game. The cliffhanger was so real I crave for more, make it happen capcom.

  10. I wonder how Megaman creator Keiji Inafune would feel if capcom fully rebooted the series…..smh.
Anyway Megamn Legends all the way! But sadly it will never happen.
