Animal Crossing Composer Is Producing The Music For Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

While Koji Kondo is usually the composer for the Zelda series, Breath of the Wild is being handled by Manaka Kataoka. A relative unknown, Kataoka got her start composing music for Wii Fit, Zelda: Spirit Tracks and most notably the Animal Crossing series. All the music from the Breath of the Wild trailers has been incredible so it seems we’re in safe hands. Have you enjoyed the music from the latest Zelda trailers? Tell us below.

    1. Huh???!? Why? Koji Kondo hasn’t been a main composer in a Zelda game since Majora’s Mask. He’s composed a tune or two here and there like in Wind Waker, the trailer theme in Twilight Princess, and the Opening theme in Skyward Sword before the title screen, but he’s been relatively uninvolved in the games in general.

Same goes for the Mario series. He hasn’t been the main composer of any Mario game since Super Mario Sunshine… although he’s been a little more active there, especially with Super Mario Maker.

I don’t even know why Koji Kondo not composing for this game is news anyway. He was asked years ago about this game, and he said he was merely going to supervise it.

Actually, he hasn’t been composing for TLoZ since Wind Waker (with a little exception of “Prologue” for Skyward Sword”). Since then he’s just a sound/music supervisor. But it’s easy to be mistaken as in every game new composers reuse themes made by him.

Manaka Kataoka is a she, actually. Unless you made a typo.

  2. Never played much Animal Crossing, but I know Spirit Tracks has incredible music, so I think we’re in good hands

  3. The music for each trailer is phenomenal seriously one of the main reasons I watched each trailer several times is because of the soundtrack I even got it stuck on my mind for days which rarely happens for me with video games music.. I don’t pay attention/care much about soundtrack of video games in general but I’m so gonna focus on the soundtrack actually I pre-ordered the special edition for the soundttack CD! Omg march 3rd hurry the F up!

  4. As a musician, I can appreciate BOTW’s music compositions. They give the game unexpected life and energy. They excite the emotions and move the soul.

    Pre-ordered.

  5. If it ends up sounding anything like the early am themes from wild world and new leaf, I’ll be a very happy camper indeed. :)
[Pre-ordered the special edition bc maps and art books are my weakness]

I enjoyed Spirit Tracks’ soundtrack. Even if I by chance hate the gameplay, like I do Spirit Tracks’, I can at least be happy that at least my ears enjoyed themselves.
