Video: Here’s A Graphic Comparison Between The Wii U & Switch Versions Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

IGN has posted a comparison video that shows off the graphics of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild on Nintendo Switch and Wii U. The Wii U footage comes from E3 last year. It’s only a minute long, so there’s not a whole lot to see here. Still, if you want a better idea on what Nintendo is planning the game to look like on each version, this is a good opportunity to find out. We’ve included the video down below, so feel free to check it out.

  1. What matters is if the detail and framerate is better on the Switch and this baby video clip does not do a good job of showing any of that. Just showed Switch being darker than Wii U. That alone made it look better but it was still too quick to judge whether or not their are framerate issues on Wii U and if the textures are jagged compared to the Switch.

  2. This is exactly the right kind of improvement; it ABSOLUTELY looks better on Switch, so people who buy the new console will get something for it, but the meat and potatoes of the game are still intact on WiiU, so those of us staying behind don’t feel screwed. I think Nintendo did a good job with this.

  3. I like the WiiU version sometimes and switch version sometimes…we really need content and desperate details…unless Nintendo is afraid to release them.
If the WiiU version is practically the same game, initial sales could tank.

  4. After seeing the trailer again, and this video… I cannot wait to play Zelda U, It’s going to probably have a shot at being the best Zelda yet!!

  5. Nintendo fan since the 90's

The game has still been in development when the wii u e3 verion was shown so the whole comparison could be the improvements they made over a year doesn’t show a thing if they want to compare have 2 relevant clips not one from a year ago against one shown now.

  6. While we are talking about graphics:

We have had huge discussions about how powerful the Switch is gonna be in comparison to the PS4 and Xbox One.
And from what we have seen in the trailers, like the Xenoblade and Mario trailer, this looks to me at least (!) on the same level as both of them. Actually if I look at the graphical juggernaut FF15 I have to say that Xenoblade 2 looks better to me (purely technical, not because of the style), but that might be because Monolith. :P

    Any other opinions on that?

    1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||Today’s generation are so obsessed and blind by the so called realistic graphics which still look cartoony anyway, which automatically makes them think it’s a weaker system because of the general non-realistic artstyle High Command strives for…||

    2. We are going to need more info to confirm Switch is close enough to current gen systems. Our real saving grace is that Scorpio games are supposed to be developed so they can also run on the X1. So those of us with an X1 can skip the upgrade if we want.

This will hopefully keep developers thinking since they have to create a slightly watered down version for the PS4 and X1, hopefully they will not be so resistant to develop for the switch if it’s not too much more work.

      1. Well, no info about any specs is as accurate as looking at the actual games.
And I think what we have seen is really great.

Not that this super important to me, Wii U level graphics would be ok to me personally, but I think this is still interesting to note.

  7. I didn’t think XC2 looked anywhere near as good as FFXV. Not saying it looked bad, but based on the gameplay we’ve seen, I’d guess the Switch lies somewhere between the Wii U and PS4/X1 in terms of graphical capability.

  8. The colors are much more vibrant in the Switch version. Very happy to see that.
I can’t believe it’s only 7 more weeks until this game and the Switch finally release!

  9. Let’s remember the wii u version may well be better than tbis video suggests as this footage is from 7 months ago wheras the switch footage is new…just a thought 😀

  10. Omega Kalas Ridley X3 (Greatness Awaits at Nintendo Switch & Sony PlayStation 4! Come join us in the Light of Darkness!!)

Switch footage looks better but the Wii U footage is still old footage so it might not be a fair comparison. I guess we’ll find out soon enough when Nintendo eventually shows some new Wii U footage, if they show it.

  11. Why do I get the feeling the Wii U version is going to do a Twilight Princess and. Become stupidly expensive in a few years time on the older hardware.
