The Wall Street Journal has conducted an insightful interview with Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi, the Switch’s general producer. You can read the full interview right here but I found this particular quote at the end rather interesting.
“I want people to share the fun of playing games not just over social media but also on street corners,” he said. “When we see people playing the Switch at various places and with different styles, then we would call the Switch a success.”

That would be called work, most people use the public transit or public transportation (whichever you prefer calling it) so playing on the switch would be great while waiting for you bus or taxi, even in the cold. Besides, I see people shopping in cold weather, especially in the snow, I should know as I’m a cart associate at Wal-Mart and not even the snow will stop them from going outside.
remember when people couldn’t use their ipods in public or if you had white earbuds you would get robbed? i don’t feel too good about carrying around a high ticket item like the Switch on the subway.

Yes, and people swipe the phones as well. To me, it’s all about how observant you are, and the parts of the city(ies) you are in. Of course crime is always a concern, that’s why you need to be smart.
Yes if you set up the switch with the kickstand, someone may try to swipe it depending on much you are aware of your surroundings. If you hold it in your hand, less likely to happen, but there may be someone that attempts to grab out of your hands. I think overall, the key is to be smart, be aware and be cautious.
For instance, I’m in Chicago. I hear about all sorts of theft on the ‘El’. It is easy for people to grab and exit the train. However, on the metra to go outside of the inner city, don’t really hear much about that. So some trains are different than others.

It’s a worse form of motion control, the headset is the tv that you happen to use motion to control the camera and the controllers are wiimotes/ps4 moves in which you flail. VR is basically a first person perspective with motion controls.

Whatever you do, don’t invest in VR. It’s a video game marketing strategy so terrible I could write a book on it, but don’t believe me, just look at the sales of the VR sets already on the market. Sitting there on store shelves with software development costs so high they can’t get anyone to produce any software that makes their 400-600 dollar goggles appealing.
I really wish them all the best. The overall presentation left me a bit pissed at them.
Think more so from a power perspective, if I am to invest in a new console, I want to know exactly whats under the hood. The online service sounds like a bad move as well.

The Wii U launched in time for Xmas and why it sold 3 million from launch till early January.
Nintendo says its shipping 2 Million for launch,if they sell all 2 Million it will be a miracle given how close after Xmas the big event was!
Nintendo are right just shipping 2 million in March as its so different to their normal console releases of October November time.

Nobody is buying the UK one because of region lock and it’s the most expensive of the bunch.

what he means is 280 gbp is about 450-500 usd, so having one shipped from the US or Japan when living in the UK makes alot more sense compared to buying one locally.

@Switch_rocks I would say that shipping 3M if they have 2M pre-ordered would be a good move. It would give people who don’t like to pre-order a crack at the console as well. Nintendo needs to sell as many of these as they can right out of the gate.
I think once word of mouth hits about “Breath of the Wild”, those who are on the fence will cave. I know several who swear they won’t buy a Switch, but will have a hard time keeping away from a new “Zelda” title.

1: All the issues that led to the Wii U’s Failure havent been fixed.
2: Lack Of 3rd party games that are found on PS4 and Xbox1 (no 3rd party support.)

4: Too Weak and Underpowered to Run 3rd party Games,whats worse is its even Now too underpowered to even run Nintendos own games (eg Zelda BOTW) with its Framerate issues
5: Once again Cheap Nintendo is selling outdated old last gen tech for even a higher price then current 8th gen consoles like PS4.
6:Still using uneccessary Gimmicks to sell thier product. (JoyCons and HD rumble)

Gamexplain helped me with the framerate issues, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe AND Splatoon 2 they said ran very smoothly on the Switch, both TV and handheld, and look really great! They have a Q&A on the Switch in a video, they were at the event.

I agree with you except for the fact that Nintendo really are marketing this thing better, and dropping the Wii brand was the right thing to do. It is true, however, that this device is hindered by being overpriced and underpowered, and it lacks third party support and relies on gimmicks. I expect it to be moderately successful, but not a smash hit. There is nothing all that innovative here. I have a smartphone with a MOGA controller, and I can stream the image to my TV. I don’t see how that is much different. Again we have a scenario of people buying in for the first party titles, which continue to be top notch. How long this will keep Nintendo in the console race is anyone’s guess.

This isn’t really the most reassuring statement regarding the success of a brand new Home console. I can’t see it reaching the level of on the go playability like the 3ds has, could be wrong, I just don’t know.

Nah, I think its through an app. I literally have a 3DS, a Wii U, and a flip phone. I bet you can get it on everything that pokemon go was supported by.
You need to download an app on “your smart device” to use voice chat. Although, the switch seems like a smart device in it self, so I’m kind of confused about it as well.
I think the idea is that if you want to play online on the go, given that this is a portable device, you are going to need to create a mobile hotspot with your smartphone… Which I assume will eat up all your data. In other words, it has standard wifi, but not built in LTE or whatnot.
I dont have a reason to buy this at launch. BOW is on Wii U if I want to play it and Neither Odyssey, Bomverman R, or Ukelaylee are available. I learned from buying a Wii U at launch.

I just pre ordered my BotW (Switch) copy, the Switch itself I’ll buy later, maybe in the end of February. I’m Brazilian and the console will not launch here ’cause Nintendo left the country due high import taxes, the console’s pre orders are taking your money right now, and for the most part it’s expensive as hell, like 540-760ish dollars.
