While practically no details were announced, the Fire Emblem Direct has announced that the Fire Emblem series will be coming to Nintendo Switch in 2018. As the stream reminded us, this is the first console Fire Emblem game since the Wii’s Radiant Dawn in 2008. Hopefully we’ll learn more about this mysterious game soon!

This is great news! If they’re willing to bring main FE titles to the Switch then Animal Crossing will undoubtedly follow.
Ahh, I wish. :c But seeing how they put out a huge update for Animal Crossing New Leaf only a couple months ago, I honestly doubt we’ll see a new AC game anytime soon. I hope I’m wrong though, there’s always a chance, I suppose.
Shame that you’re probably right. Nintendo knows AC is huge in both hemispheres which is why I was dumbfounded as to why it wasn’t teased at the very least. It may be moved as a future release to avoid possible droughts.
It is hard to imagine they would pass up on the opportunity to bring the franchise to the Switch, since AC works perfectly well as both a portable and a home console game, and with the Switch offering a pretty much seamless transition between the two play styles, I can only imagine how great it would be. But then again, I told myself similar things in relation to AC on WiiU, and well, we see how that turned out, hah. I’m still extremely disappointed we didn’t get it for the WiiU, would have been really good, especially with the gamepad. Very unfortunate.
But yea, now I’m just hoping AC on Switch will happen eventually, and Nintendo won’t make me go through the same kind of disappointment again. :p
The time gap between AC games seems to be getting wider every time.
I feel like we’re getting a bit oversaturated with Fire Emblem games lately. This is like, what, the 5th Fire Emblem game within 5-6 years? We had Awakening, Fates (which had two versions), Fire Emblem Echoes, the upcoming Warriors game, this, and then the mobile game, if you want to add that one in. I wish they would focus on franchises we haven’t seen in a while, like F-Zero, Metroid or even Animal Crossing (though chances for that seem slim, considering the huge update they brought out recently), for example. The new FE game for the 3DS really seems a bit unnecessary. This one’s at least for the Switch, and something that makes sense, considering there hasn’t been a FE game on consoles in such a long time.
Fates two versions really don’t count as two, because the game isn’t complete without both, Echos is only a remake and Warriors doesn’t count any more than Hyrule Warriors counted as a Zelda game. If you look at things that way, that’s only 3 games in the last 8 years.
I didn’t count Fates as two. Echoes being a remake doesn’t change the fact that it’s a Fire Emblem game. Warriors is Fire Emblem themed, meaning, you are playing Fire Emblem characters, fighting Fire Emblem enemies and have a story related to the Fire Emblem universe, so it still adds to the Fire Emblem saturation, even if it isn’t a conventional type of game of the franchise in terms of gameplay.
So no, it still looks very much like 5 games to me, within 6 years btw. Awakening is the oldest in the list and came out in 2012, the Switch FE is coming in 2018. That’s 6 years. I mistakenly said 5-6 in my previous comment because I wasn’t sure if Awakening came out in 2012 or 2013.
I remember back in 2003 that I was teased at school for playing Fire Emblem because no one ever heard of it… I’m now genuine happy :’)

And the protagonists aren’t more Avatars (they were nice at first, but they kind of overstayed their welcome).
I’d say & hopefully not censored for stupid reasons but region free so this is a problem easily avoided if they dare do it again.
Anyone still doubting this is their one console moving forward?

Get rid of the fucking avatars and bring back real Lords. That’s all I ever ask.
It was a cool idea at first, but now they are reaching into Gary Stu territory.
If they do bring the avatar back, at least don’t make them the center of the game’s story again. Let them be a side character like the Tactician was in The Blazing Sword with Lyndis, Eliwood, & Hector.
That would be a good idea. Leaves more room for developing the other important characters instead of the Avatar feeling too Mary-Sue-ish.
Although, I will give Fire Emblem credit for doing a better job with the avatar’s integration into the game’s story than what Xenoblade Chronicles X did. From what I hear, you could play the entire game & never once concern yourself with the avatar.
Yeah. With Xenoblade X, you were nothing more than a spectator while the squad you team up with gets more plot relevant attention. But the most developed characters in the story would have to be Elma and Lao for very spoilerific reasons that probably won’t be revisited until Xenoblade X2 (which will probably never happen).
