Star Fox fans in North America will be pleased to know that Star Fox 64 will finally be arriving to the North American Wii U eShop tomorrow. The title was added to the European eShop early in 2016.
Star Fox 64, that was released originally in 1997, will be available to download for $9.99. Here’s the overview from the Nintendo website:
“The Lylat system has been invaded! Take control of the Arwing and skim over the surface of an alien sea, weave through the concrete canyons of a futuristic metropolis, or dodge planetoids the size mountains. Complete 15 missions on your way to the final showdown on planet Venom. It’s up to Fox Mcloud and his team of space mercenaries to save the galaxy from the clutches of the evil Andross.”
Only took until the wii u is dead for that to happen ;’) seriously though, I hope virtual console for the switch will be better than the wii u’s.
It’s kind of ridiculous that Zero was essentially using the same storyline as 64, but with better graphics and some new features. Why couldn’t they just create an actual sequel to 64 with a brand new storyline, new planets, perhaps more than 1 solar system to explore… heck, they could’ve even expanded on 64’s multiplayer capabilities, taking it online for 4-player competitive combat.
Instead, we got a game that was delayed multiple times over multiple years, just because they were obsessed about hitting 60 FPS and adding in mandatory motion controls (of which I still noticed frame rate drops while I was playing it in single-player mode), and it had pretty much the exact same storyline as the original game 20 years ago, except without multiple endings and with worse multiplayer than the original.
This is one of the main reasons why the Wii U failed to capture an audience. Reggie keeps talking about how the games are the most important focus of the company, but there were so many missed opportunities with creating good games for the Wii U. No main series Pokémon game or Metroid game. Zelda no longer an exclusive title for the console. Paper Mario ruined by a bad combat system. Star Fox Zero essentially yet another remake of the 64 version, which has already been remade numerous times. Yes, there were great games for the Wii U (Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Pikmin, Tokyo Mirage, etc.), but most of the console’s library consisted of reboots, remakes, re-masters of older games or messed up spin-offs like the ones I mentioned above that tried to be “innovative” at the expense of turning off the core gamers of that respective series’ franchise.
*Sigh* Why can’t we just get another Star Fox like this one? SF Zero could have been it, but the wonky controls and lack of a multiplayer mode of substance just wrecked its chances.
The controls wouldn’t have been an issue if we had the damn option to play the game traditionally without all of the bells & whistles. I like motion control but for shooters like Star Fox, fuck that shit!
Why is it the Wii’s Virtual console was better than the Wii U’s was? It certainly was’nt power that’s not the cause.
Will this include the N64 multi-player mode so we can have VS battles? With other SF64 owners?
Them: “Star Fox is coming to wii u virtual console tomorrow”
Us:”…why?”
Them:”…..”
Us:”why don’t you bring fox to the switch virtual console as well as having NETFLIX, CRUNCHYROLL, HULU PLUS, & YOUTUBE teady for launch?!!!” why bring classic hits to an already dead console?
Them:”…..”
Who the heck uses a game console to watch TV shows and Movies? All the services you listed are horrendous.
Should’ve come out when Star Fox Zero came out. :'(
The enhanced port of Star Fox Zero is only 1/6th of Zero’s price? Sweet!
This is redundant at this point but I’ll say it anyway because I just like mentioning it and maybe possibly pissing off the fanboys: NintenD’OH! *facepalm* of ‘Murishit is total, utter shit. GET NEW STAFF, DAMN IT!!!
