We know a little more about the Nintendo Switch‘s features, thanks to Kotaku. When Kotaku asked if the online stores will be region-free, just like cartridges, they were told that “The Nintendo Switch system is not region locked, but we recommend that players buy games within their region to ensure full service and support. The user will access the Nintendo eShop that corresponds to the country identified in their Nintendo Account. (Up to eight user accounts can be created on a single Nintendo Switch system)”.
A Nintendo Switch Can Handle Up To 8 Accounts & The Region Is Related To The Accounts You Create
The only accounts that matter are pretty much your own country and Japan.
well sometimes Europe… Xenoblade hasn’t been confirmed for America yet in 2017 but it has for Europe and since i want this game in English i will buy it from Europe
Pretty sure its a global release or Japan first this time around. The only reason Europe got it first is because they were behind the entire localization in the first place, and English audiences would never have had a chance at getting it otherwise. Xenoblade X came out same day in EU and NA and about 3/5 of a year after Japan.
I think Europe might be behind the localization again though…

I’m not sure, but it’s nice that you can make a Japanese account or an EU account (if you’re in NA, vice versa otherwise) to play certain titles that aren’t going to be released for a while / won’t be released at all.

Can’t do that on the Vita:D This is going to be the greatest handheld yet, I’m gonna import so much s!@# lol:D So now it’s capable of using SD cards, unlike Vita which uses price gouged proprietary memory cards, and we are able to create multiple accounts made for different regions, unlike Vita which you have to either erase your only already expensive memory card or buy a whole new one which runs from $40-$100.
This is why Nintendo screwed up during the Switch reveal, they should have opened with comparisons between the Switch and the Vita. Vita fans are gonna buy the Switch day one, and they probably have a more dedicated fan base than Nintendo has, I mean for god’s sake, they are the only reason we are still getting physical vita releases here in the states to this very day, and that’s after the Vita was abandoned for what seems like years by sony. Congrats Nintendo fans, your party members are about to get a ton of dedicated gamers who are looking for the next Vita experience:D
The Switch, being compared to the Vita, is heartbreaking. Vita being released in 2011/12 and the Switch launching in 2017. The Wii U was compared to the Vita.

So glad Nintendo finally went away from region locking 😁
So, i will have 2 accounts.
One will be called Sasashi Gumpai and live in Japan, and the other will be Greg Johnston and be in the US.
That way i can get my JP only games, and my US games.
Kinda silly i have to do that honestly.
But i guess it’s better than nothing.

On 360 it was not possible, if memory serves. Though there wasn’t that many games on 360 that you wanted out of region.

Not exactly. Region locking is when they lock hardware and games together in a specific region. You can only play games bought in the same region as the console itself. Not anymore. You can play whatever games on whatever console.Doesnt matter which region you make the account in, you will be able to play the games. However, As for accounts, if you make one as a Japan region account, you will get to choose from Japans specific options that are available to them. Basically what is popular in Japan might not be as popular elsewhere. So you will get Japanese games that wont show up in Americas List of games but you will be able to buy them and play them just the same.
Something like that anyways.
