There’s An Alternate Ending In The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed that an alternate ending is featured in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But only players who meet “certain criteria” will be able to witness the second possible conclusion of the game, according to Aonuma. “There is an alternate ending if you meet certain criteria,” he teased. “If you do a few things, you may see a different ending.” The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled to launch on March 3 for both Nintendo Switch and Wii U.

  1. Calling it now: It’s going to be a super tragic ending where Zelda gets sacrificed to finally free Ganon and the entire world falls into ruin. Everyone dies except Link, left alive to make him remember his failure for the rest of his natural life.

    1. Hopefully it’s something like Wind Waker’s ending where it hits you right in the feels, or at least for me it did.

    2. I personally expect something different. I expect there to be one “real” ending, which you get when you play most of the story, and one different endinge that you get when rushing through the game and skipping a lot of the story stuff, which you could technically do.

    1. I don’t consider this to be a spoiler tbh, it says absolutely nothing about any ending :/ if the “certain criteria” were explained then that would definitely be a spoiler. I doubt Aonuma-san would have shared this tidbit early on like this if it gave anything away.

Some people tend to classify leaking gameplay mechanics as being spoilers in & of themselves. Weird, I know, but there are people like that.

        1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

          ||Batman you did not read this article, you read about health insurances and how it would benefit your broken spine…||

          ||Also the Ganon loving Joker is still at large somewhere in Gotham City…||

        2. I have a friend who’s sensitive to spoilers like you, she hates hearing this type of stuff. Not being rude but I’d suggest you be careful coming to this and other gaming sites over these next couple of months- especially RIGHT AFTER the game launches. The next 2 to 3 months could possibly be very upsetting to you as people will instantly be sharing most information they find. While I don’t mind this piece of information getting out because I probably wouldn’t have even known there was an alternate ending(s) just by playing the game, things like this and even bigger details will soon be all over the place. If you want to go in mostly blind it might be a good idea to duck the internet for a while 🙂

Hope you enjoy the game! Switch is almost here finally!!

      1. BARNACLES IS RIGHT!! IM FREAKING PISSED MAN!!! I would go on a news strike but unfortunately i have a Nintendo News focused YouTube channel so gosh dang.

    1. That wouldn’t make much sense, since WW happened because no hero came at all, not because he failed. Otherwise tha would be pretty cool! As long as you actually get to see the world getting flooded.

  2. I usually play a Zelda game once with zero contact with anyone else who’s playing it, stay away from magazines (the time when it was magazines ) or sites… No YouTube no Twitter (this time as in fairly new to twitter) and just see what happens. Badger I finish it I look up stuff to see if I’ve missed anything to determine if it’s worth a second play through … This time I already know I need to play twice !

  3. A lot of people saying need to play twice. An alternate ending could also just be the “true” ending. You know how you play some games, beat it but it doesnt feel all fleshed out though? Like you missed a little back story but still feel great about it? Im guessing this is how this will play out. Where as in you do the certain criteria and you get the more expansive ending.

    1. I hope that there’s a “bad ending” to the game that really hits you in the feels, maybe for dying to Ganon or trying to fight it too early.

  4. They have no problem spoiling their games but ask them something important about the system and its

    “Hey, look over there…”
    “What?”

    …Nintendo rep vanishes…

  5. I like when games have alternate endings. It gives the game more replay value. That is, if the game is fun enough to want to keep playing. Which I believe this Zelda game WILL be. Alternate endings is one of the things that made Chrono Trigger so unique and fun.

I’ll enjoy a full cinematic bad ending! As for the good ending, I’m hoping it’ll be similar to Final Fantasy X-2 & how it handled the ending: the more of the story you see, the longer, and better, the game’s ending.

The bad news about this: if there are varying different good endings, there’s gonna be a lot of in-fighting, as if the Zelda fanbase doesn’t have enough of that already with people being against the official timeline for whatever reason & those for it, about which ending is the canon ending. Hopefully the game itself will make it obvious which ending is the canon ending, though, to stop the in-fighting. Then again, in a way, Nintendo probably loves the fact the Zelda fanbase is split straight down the middle.
