The five characters shown so far for Arms aren’t the only ones you’ll be able to take control of. In addition to Springman, Ribbon Girl, Master Mummy, Mechanica and Ninjara, there are more playable characters that remain to be seen. That’s according to producer Kosuke Yabuki, who also revealed that certain in-game stages will consist of destructible objects. Arms is set for release later this year on Nintendo Switch.
SHOW ME A ROSTER!
…..NO! Better yet.
SHOW ME A $50 – $60 ROSTER!!!
You don’t think $10 per character is worth it? ;P
Probably not. A lot of gamers seem to want to complain and think everything is some dire issue.
$10 per character?! That’s way too expensive! Take for example, Killer Instinct on XB1. It’s $5 per character, and $20 per season at their release. There are 3 season, each with around 9 characters each. Even something like 10 characters would be too little to justify a $50 or $60 price tag, especially for a new IP. I could see this doing okay for maybe $35-$40.
Well now we see why you all aren’t Marketing Majors.
It doesn’t take a Marketing Major to realize that charging full retail price for a new IP with not much content on a new console might not be the best idea.
You dont know how much content is in the game, so you’re not in a position to say its not worth the retail price
You’re right, it may have enough content to justify a $50 price tag. From a consumer standpoint, when you see a fighting game that you’ve never heard of on a brand new system, you’re not gonna think ” I just spent $300 on a new system, I think I’ll give this game a try.” People who buy the Switch will probably stick to Zelda, which they’ll know what they’re getting. They’re not taking a gamble with Zelda like they would be with Arms. The consumer only knows what is being showed to them so far, and so far it’s not much. That said, if the game were $20 or so less expensive than Zelda, it might entice consumers. The large majority of Day One Switch owners will likely be Nintendo fans, and if you had to choose one launch title, it’s going to be Zelda.
This game looks really good in my opinion. Assuming i have the funds this is a day one purchase for me!
All good… doesn’t matter as you are basically the character and the game is based more on our physical movements than just button mashing.
If it has replay value, great… that is about the only thing that determines worth to me
Actually characters do matter because They all have unique “hands” so the punches act differently. You choose from 3 different types of “hands” per character and each character has at least one unique type of hand. You can also choose which real hand you equip the “hands” to as well. Each “hand” also had unique special attacks that you charge up, so each character has their unique specials. Its a pretty in depth game.
fair enough but I still don’t believe that the number of playable characters dictates the value of the game… it is the replay value.
True, Street Fighter 2 came out with just 8 characters and everyone ate that up. I really hope there’s more unique “hands” though as that’ll add to the depth as Batman stated.
Yeah I definitely think that’s true, I’m just saying that the characters add to that replay ability and depth. They’re not just cosmetic differences as it seems you may have been suggesting.
I think we’ll have more than 3 types of hands to choose from for each character. Look at the photo on the headline, I don’t remember those fish hands being available at all in the Demo. I’m willing to bet we have seen at most, 50% of this game. IF that much. I don’t think half the stages, characters and hand units, have been shown off yet. I’m sure there will also be some sort of story mode, and probably a boss character of some kind.
Yeah we probably haven’t. I’m not expecting a story mode, tho it would be cool.
This game looks fun for me.
There’s better be a literal fighting clown with party popper arms in the roster.
Is this Nintendo’s new pricing system now? To calculate the price according to content, not production cost? 5 characters x $10 = $50. 20 mini games x $2.50 = $50. Or Bomberman: 10 stages x $5 = $50. The Binding of Isaac: 200 randomly generated rooms x $0.20 = $40. I don’t like where this is going. No sir, I don’t like it.
Lmao how does this theory even come into your head
First Konami priced Bomberman. Second, it is over 5 characters for ARMS. Third you may be right on the 1 2 Switch. Fourth, Nintendo didn’t price the Binding of Isaac Afterbirth + and the developer alright explained the pricing for that game.
The more I watch of this the more I liked what I saw. Hard to tell if characters had any unique abilities or if the all acted the same when you threw punches. It’ll really come down to the player rather than learning long drawn out combo sequences that not everyone can learn. Hopefully it has more characters and good online modes or mini games that’ll keep us coming back for more.
They all have unique “hands” so the punches act differently. You choose from 3 different types of “hands” per character and each character has at least one unique type of hand. You can also choose which hand you equip the “hands” as well. Each “hand” also had unique special attacks that you charge up, so each character has their unique specials. Its a pretty in depth game.
Ah so each character has specific hands that do unique things to that character huh ? You know I watched the Japanese stream of this game and I saw the 3 hands you could select but thought that it was more cosmetic than functional. Well this makes things even more interesting then 😏
Nope its actually way more functional than it is cosmetic. Each weapon plays in unique ways and has unique features.
This game needs a really good online mode to succeed. That’s the kind of game it’s looking like. It looks like Splatoon in that multiplayer is the main draw. I don’t think there will be lots of single player content on there honestly. But who knows maybe
Online is confirmed.
Yea I know but I’m saying it needs good implementation like having customizable characters and upgrades, leveling system etc. and good connection. I remember Splatoon was really hard at the beginning to play
Yeah Splatoon had a bit of problems its first week because of the insane amount of success that game had. They fixed it quick tho. Since then it has run (at least for me) at a perfect 60fps with barely and character lag and you got into matches extremely quick. But yeah i think this game will be great!
I love the positive reception this game is getting so far. I love seeing new fun ideas and I love seeing people enjoy them even more.
One better be Little Mac. XP
He’ll be a paid DLC character. Calling it now. But if I’m wrong & he ends up being a free update, I’m okay with that.
I have a feeling that possibly, an Arms character is coming to the Sm4sh Port of Switch.
Either as a fighter or an assist trophy, one is bound to appear.
Yeah it’s possible. I’m a little worried about the unreleased Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta btw, we haven’t got a release date or something like that. I know it’s off-topic but just saying :P
amiibos
I’d assume those would accompany the port of Smash 4. If Cloud is delayed past that, it’s because of a Final Fantasy VII Remake port for Switch not being ready to share yet.
i dont think smash is coming to the switch
Too many characters usually turns me away from a fighting game.
10 would probably be a good number for this game.
A whole 5 characters!!!???? Ima explode!!
||Good, Mechanica will be taken over then and join the Ing…||
That’s all I wanted to know about ARMS. This game and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were the most interesting games at the Switch reveal.
The game does indeed look good but only is a bit bad having more of a roster will make tourneys alot more of a challenge
Wow! OVER 5 CHARACTERS!? GOLLY JEE WILLIKERS BATMAN!
This is serious hype.

It’s a brand new IP, guys. Even Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Dead or Alive, King of Fighters, Super Smash Bros, etc started off with a roster of about 10-15 characters. Even the Warriors/Musou franchises started off with a small roster. This is normal of a new series. If it’s a hit, future entries will add more, new characters.
