You may have seen that Codemasters announced Dirt 4 yesterday to applause from racing fans around the globe. The respected rally driving simulator is only confirmed for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC at the moment, however that doesn’t mean it can’t come to the Nintendo Switch in the future. Here’s what Senior Games Designer, Darren Hayward had to say:
“Personally, I’ve got my Switch pre-ordered and I’m getting it day one. Obviously at launch [DiRT 4] is not coming to Switch. We’d already picked our platforms. We’ve nothing to announce right now, but, I wouldn’t rule it out.”
“There are signs of more traditional games coming out for Switch with full controller support like Skyrim, but would Dirt Rally or Dirt 4 work on a split Switch controller? I think we’d have to do quite a lot in terms of extra tweaks.”
“When you take it away and you’ve got it in tablet mode with the Joy-Cons it’s great, but those split controllers, that’s custom game design right there specifically for that platform.
“There are not many inputs, so you’d have to have super simplified controls and because of that, it may not be the ideal scenario for DiRT 4.
“That said, I could definitely see Nintendo Switch having some compelling racing experiences.”
I’d love some dirt on the switch
I’d rather mine clean thanks
What do they mean? The split controller has the same inputs as a regular one, only with no plastic between the sides. Plus, the plastic comes bundled with the system…
I think he means different when using only one Joy-Con but I’ve always seen that as an optional feature that some games might not have.
Yes, why would you want to design the game around that controller method, if you think it would be difficult to make it work? Makes no sense.
Wasn’t there supposed to be a Dirt game on Wii U?
Yes, it got cancelled before the Wii U released, I think.
Dirt is cool, but wouldn’t the digital shoulder buttons make it hard to play? Or is it more of a arcade racer?
I suppose you can use one joystick for throttle and the other for steering?
You can, but its not as good as analouge triggers.
||Just create the to have bad sales weapon already and be silent…||
Long story short: wait forever.
Forget DIRT 4, how about that Micro Machines game. That would work perfect on this thing.
Isn’t Codemasters the ones that made the Game Genie back in the day (my favorite cheat devices) ? It’s kind of weird how they make regular games too.
Yeah, they are the ones, but they had been making games years before the game genie. It is odd that people tend to forget that these guys are as old as Nintendo. Or maybe even older, I might be wrong though.
Nintendo was founded in the late 1800’s *facepalm*
As developers *facepalm*
CodeMasters say: “We want to give you a little bit of possible hope that we MIGHT develop Dirt 4 for the Switch, but then when the time comes we’ll say we can’t do it and forget we mentioned it in the first place ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”
I’m going to have to agree with some of the more negative trolls we see around here and say I’d rather they kept their answer vague if they’re not committing. The split controller design seems like a poor excuse to me. I won’t be (or at least can’t see myself) playing any games that way.
They bringing anti Trump rallies to Switch?
