Yooka-Laylee Has Gone Gold

Playtonic Games have reached a major milestone with the upcoming 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee. In a recent update to Kickstarter backers the company has announced that the game is now finished and has subsequently gone gold. Yooka-Laylee will launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 11th. The game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, but a release date for the game has yet to be finalised by the company.

Almost two years since Playtonic announced itself to the world – and 21 months since our Kickstarter campaign – we’re absolutely delighted to announced that Yooka-Laylee has gone gold!

We couldn’t have reached this moment without the incredible support of our backers, fans, family and friends across the games industry. Thanks again for your unwavering enthusiasm for our studio. We hope you enjoy Yooka-Laylee when it releases on April 11!

  1. Yay! I don’t think they’ve announced when the Switch version is coming have they? I hope its close to the others cause I’m getting it on the Switch.

    1. I’m afraid it won’t be that soon. Maybe Fall or something. For me it looks like they aren’t working on that version for more than 3-4 months and porting something like this over to the Switch’s architecture might not be that easy, especially as the Switch might still not be able to render all the XBone & PS4’s versions are displaying.

But the thing is, that I believe they would already have given any timeframe during the Switch’s launch window, if it would’ve been that finalized.

      1. From everything I’ve heard porting to the Switch is really easy. Also I don’t think much, if any downgrade would be required. The game doesn’t look like its a game that’s pushing the PS4 or Xbone at all. BotW is way more graphically advanved than this game and it runs on the Wii U. So I don’t think it will be that hard. It really depends on when they started development on the Switch version. But I’m thinking it will be a mid summer release.

  2. Switch version is definitely coming, but slightly later. I’ve read before June, but it is speculation. Anyways, this game will be the Switch’s Banjo-Kazooie. I seriously hope that Playtonic and Nintendo makes a great partnership to recreate the Rare era (without the bad sides).

  3. I already backed this just for the PC version. I’m glad that I didn’t back for the Wii U and get disappointed when it was being transitioned to the Switch, but I’ll still probably get that version too.

  4. I’ve been looking forward to this game for a while. I was glad to hear that they will also be releasing it on the Switch. Now fingers crossed we also get Bloodstained on the Switch too which would mean not only the first decent Banjo Kazooie game for a long time but Castlevania as well.

  5. No WiiU version… looks like I’m getting it on my 3rd party box.
I’m at the 3rd spirit in Twilight princess, and 6 hearts! 1 month to get my Wolf Amiibo upgraded!

        1. Shouldn’t take you long, I expected it to take me a lot longer, I was surprised how quick the game can be, and how easy the bosses are (even on hero mode). I let my friend play the entire Ganon fight on hero mode (he needed to use 3 or 4 potions) and he won the fight his first try, and he’s never played a zelda game before. I know he used potions, but that’s still too easy if you ask me lol.

          1. I’m finding it easier than I remembered… I was going to chalk it off to my being more experienced… guess that’s not it. Lol.

It’s fun, and I’m bias towards wolves, and the dark plot, and Midna has an awesome attitude. So yeah, I guess I can give the difficulty a pass. ;D

            1. For sure, I like all the things you mentioned, I was just shocked by the level of difficulty. Hopefully BOTW isn’t so easy lol. I’d say OOT is harder and maybe even Wind Waker than TP. Still loved playing through it again.

            2. Tips for Cave of Shadows. You have to go through 3 times at least to reach the end. After floor 5 or 6 and after floor 18 I think are checkpoints you have to leave the first time you reach them, so you can have 20 hearts and save then. So far easier way to do it, but you can’t say ypu beat the whole thing

            3. If you wanna do all floors, I tested last night, you can use Zelda and shiek amiibo to heal once per day, but not 24 hours apart. My game clock was 11:55pm and I healed with Zelda, then tried again before midnight which didn’t work but 12:01 I was able to heal again not ten minutes later with the same amiibo. So yea you can leave your system on and essentially have unlimited heals in one run, just gotta wait it out. So yea if it is too hard, you have this option to get all your hearts and also be able to say you made it all the way through.

              1. Ah! Thank you. I need to change my WiiU settings… I think I have it set to turn off after 1 hour. I need to get all the heart containers first. I started completely over a week or so ago. I’m at Zora Lake as Wolf Link now! Trying to get an hour or two a night after work and dog running. I have February to get it done! I heard somewhere, if I wait til the end of the game, then go to the Cave of shadows, It’s easier, because I can save the 20 hearts to my Wolf Amiibo after the first checkpoint? Not sure if that’s true or not. I would finish the other two checkpoints, but at least my Wolf will be ready for BotW! I’m hoping to get some solid game time in this weekend. Work days are rough on my freetime. Work from 7:30am to 6pm. (That includes 2 hours of driving.) Run my dog from 6:20 to 7:30. Then Cook dinner. Then Play with the pup a little more, THEN around 8:30-9pm… I usually have a couple hours to relax. Half the weekend is usually catching up on house stuff. So on Sunday’s, I reserve for myself. No walking the dog, no family calls. Just gaming, Hobbies, and resting! That means sinking time into twilight!

Thanks for the tips, I will put them to good use!

                1. Sounds like you got your schedule figured out lol. I would have responded earlier but my cell phone is an iphone 4s and runs this site horribly, half the time it reloads the page and all the text I was typing gets lost, so I usually end up not responding to a lot of people sadly. But yea you should be able to get to floor 5 or 6 and save from there and have all your hearts once you have the 20 hearts in the normal game.

                2. Beat the Cave yesterday on my first run, it’s not as bad once you play it a few times and get a strategy. Still easily the hardest thing in the game though lol. Cave of Ordeals (COO) is really easy, I have 3 bottles full of Great Fairy Tears now which you can only get from beating the COO and one with the Rare Chu Jelly which you can only have one at a time. I don’t know if having that set up or 4 bottles of the great fairy tears would count towards a perfect 100% file lol. Which would you think completionists would lean towards, 4 great fairy bottles or 3 great fairy bottles and 1 rare chu jelly botle? The only other thing I can do in the game is with fishing, I could go and fish the max weight or size of each fish both in the fishing hole and outside the fishing hole, but that would just be a lot of random time wasted. Lol sorry for the nerdy update on my file haha had to tell someone though.

                  1. You sir, are quite the Zelda fan. I didn’t expect that! And you can never geek-out too much where Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, Fire Emblem, FZero are concerned! :D

I would say both Bottle situations could be considered exceptional. I never completed Twilight to that degree, and am impressed!

I am not near the Completionist Mike is. (You’ll see him on here from time to time.) He is the Completionist god, CD

In any case, I am going to wait til I’m almost done to go to the cave. I have a ways to go! I’m 20hours in and just finished the Lake temple. I’m on my way to gain the ability to transform at will next! 7 hearts.

If I can get my Wolf up to 12-15 hearts, I’ll be happy, but I’m aiming for 20!

                    1. Glad you appreciate the geek fit hahaha. I’m not sure if I have seen Mike the Completionist actually. And yea I may not game as much as I used to, but when I do, I try to 100% a game every time.

The Lake Temple lol that one was annoying, took way longer for me due to stupid obvious mistakes overlooked. Why is the water temple always so annoying lol (OOT).
I’m sure you’ll end up with 20 hearts, you have 26 days till launch (sounds better than saying just under a month to me lol) so I can see you doing it. Let me know if you need any advice on anything lol.

                  2. I’m also working at 100% DOOM. Fuck I love that game. I am using it for a series I’m building for my YouTube channel that’s TBA.

                    1. Nice, you talking about the remake of the old school DOOM? I don’t know of any others lol but I haven’t been too up to date on gaming news outside of nintendo the last few years.

                      1. Yeah, the New DOOM game, the reboot, remake – I’m not even a huge FPS fan… it’s just so well made… if you can stand blood, gore and excessive violence. Haha. OK. Back to Twilight!

    1. I’ve just reveive a Kikstarter update about the switch version : We continue to work closely with Nintendo on plans for a Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee and more details will be revealed in the future. We’d like to thank our many Nintendo fans for their continued patience and understanding while we form our plans: we hope to make your platform of choice a great place to experience Yooka-Laylee in the future!

Note: Upon release, the Switch version will be delivered to backers via digital game codes and thus no additional upgrade cost is required.

    2. I’m looking forward to this sóóó much!
Whould have liked a physical version for the Switch, but I’m glad I’ll be able to play it on the Switch anyway!

    3. Hopefully the Switch version will be released before 12/25/17.

But yeah, so many good games are coming to the system:

Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Project Sonic 2017, Sonic Mania, Ultimate Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, Oceanhorn, Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition (even though I wasted $10 on the Wii U version I haven’t even played yet, during the Ubisoft digital clearance sale), and of course, Yooka-Laylee.

Too soon to get into ARMS.

    4. To be honest they took the decision to give up on the wii u version since last year or right after E3 2015. I am pretty sure the switch version should be ready in June at the latest. If I have to pick up that game it would be on PC.
