Virtual Reality is a pretty hot topic right now with Sony’s PlayStation VR accessory doing very well. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima says that the company is researching VR extensively and will add it to the Nintendo Switch platform once they work out how users can play for hours on end without problems.

I heard 720p does’t look great for VR
I hear VR isn’t doing too great either.
The price is high, but most people who have it like it a lot
The same was true of the Wii U, Vita, Virtual Boy, etc. etc.
VR is a money pit. Far too small of an audience can afford a $600 optional accessory that doesn’t add to core gameplay, and if you make it necessary for core gameplay people will be upset that they’re “forced” to buy it.
Thank you, *looks at obed17* that was my whole point on “its not doing well either”.
VR is doing pretty, especially PSVR. It is mostly sold out, and with RE 7. The best thing the price will come down and some game will only be VR. Nintendo, microsoft, HP, lenovo are making VR headsets now. Google, oculus, htc, sony already have headsets. VR is here to stay, sorry to you haters and trolls.
Pokemon VR
I really don’t care about VR, it has all sorts of caveats not to mention that the tech hasn’t proven itself to be advanced enough yet.
And it’s still too pricey! 600 bucks for a VR Headset PLUS A PS4 for 300 or a PS4 Pro for 400!? Heh, fuck that.
A 99-199$ device please, anything more would be just an accessory for geeks.
I bet we will not see it with Switch.
Why
Id rather see more AR first… save VR for the next console.
Next Switch tablet could have a full HD screen for this.
Honestly its out AR, that’s the future. VR is just putting your self in a inclosed environment, it sounds more emissive, but until your freely moving around with full body tracking, no cords and device light enough to not notice…..this is why microsoft is going about it the right way.
AR first, Kinect tracking, and the option for VR on xbox/windows10. And let it happen naturally. HoloLens even has its own motion tracking on the out side of device that maps your room/hands/objects.
Unless they are planning a sick Metroid game, I hope nintendo just waits for the VR thing settle first. Switch has enough going on
VR is exclusive, something inclusive should be nicer. Switch is the contrary, it’s a social thing… at least with the intentions.
I like it just the way it is. Motion and classic control, that’s it.
VR not really my cup of tea but it becomes a little more interesting when you think of how the HD rumble could work with it and become more immersive. I still don’t like the idea of having my head stuck in goggles for extended periods of time though…
“…Sony’s PlayStation VR accessory doing very well.”
Incredibly inaccurate statement. Only 750,000 units sold by the end of 2016, with fewer than 15 games currently in development that we know about. PSVR is a big old flop that Sony will drop faster than you can say “fad”.
“Only 750,000 units sold by the end of 2016” fo you realize that it launched at the end of 2016. for only a few months thats pretty good
Yeah but you could say the same happened with Kinect.
The first units are the easiest to sell. Have you seen the numbers of how many units they have to sell for it to be profitable?
yeah well people said the 3ds would bomb but it worked out in the end
It’s been sold out pretty much everywhere for a while. It’s back in stock in the UK at least.
It released in november. It only had two months of sales how is that a flop ? Especially given the price point and the fact that they didn’t have enough in stock. Your comment sounds pretty biased
It sold out everywhere and hasn’t been back in stock. It’s coming back in stock to stores this month and has a lot more than 15 games in development ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_VR_games ).
resident evil vr lets go!
I’d be in favor of trying this on Switch. I always enjoy new or comical tech. But then again, you’re talking to a guy with a virtual boy on his living room table.
Everything I hear about the Resident Evil 7 VR experience has been really great. People love it. RE7 could be it’s chance to pick up momentum, unfortunately the horror genre is big, but not huge or inclusive of various types of gamers.
If they can pull off a couple more amazing titles, I think it could get momentum. But it can’t grow with RE7 and a few tech demo’s alone.
I would love to see a game like Elite Dangerous with VR.
It’s not even available on any of my tech, and I agree with most people that it doesn’t quite make sense for many games – but I think there could be a small market if the right games were built for it. It’s going to be a bumpy ride, even if it does succeed, but it’s definitely not dead yet!
Samsung VR sucks and so does Sony VR. You wanna take a chance at damaging your vision? Go right ahead.
What’s wrong with Samsung VR?
It’s not going to damage your vision any more than watching a regular TV screen will.
Unless someone plays it 24/7 with absolutely no breaks, they have nothing to worry about. Of course, going blind will be the least of anyone’s concerns doing 24/7 gaming with absolutely no breaks. Death being a pretty big one.
||Death is the ultimate sacrifice a human can do for The First Order…||
I’m sure they can work things out with the VR
the switch is too heavy for a facemask thing to drop it in. they could release some sort of lightweight visor, like the LG G5 wired headset, maybe using wifi to make it wireless. if it can output 1080p docked it can handle VR.

Yea I’m doubting this.
They do know VR requires beefy specs, right? Even PS4 VR is considered entry level for the experience.
It would most likely have be an entirely new Switch tablet. Probably costing around $600 or more.
So, my take on this is that much more interesting to me than the merits or demerits of VR at large or its success or lack thereof, is the potential implications that the serious prospects of VR could have for the true capabilities of the Switch hardware (one of the few lingering unanswered questions left for the system).
I realize that VR can come in many forms, including the $15 dealies you can put a six year old phone into and watch a rollercoaster ride. Those kinds of VR experiences say nothing about the hardware driving it. And if that’s what Nintendo has in mind, then yeah, it’s nothing to get excited about.
However, things like Oculus take a lot of power to run well, and to a lesser extent (I believe), PSVR as well. If THAT’s the kind of ideal Nintendo is talking about, then it’s a tremendously good sign of what kind of performance we can maybe see from this new Tegra.
I mean, this thing is already confirmed to be more powerful than the WiiU, which was my drop-dead minimum, so in one sense how powerful this thing is doesn’t really matter to me anymore as it has already exceeded my minimum threshold and has landed squarely in the “definitely gonna get it” (Lord willing) category.
And yes, the games, and the experience it offers are all more important than raw specs / gflops / tflop, etc…..I get all that. But call me an eternal optimist, I still care how powerful this thing is, and I want it to be as powerful as possible, and I’m still holding out hope. Serious talk of VR is a very encouraging sign to me on that front.
Now, all that said, what do I think of the idea of VR on the Switch in particular? Well, why not?
But won’t it conflict with the social aspects of gaming on a Calgary rooftop with all the gal pals, or shooting hoops with your friends…..after shooting hoops with your friends? Well, in conjunction, perhaps. But even more than being “the social system”, the Switch is really kinda the “everything system”, and so I am sure they’ll find a way to work it into the wheelhouse of the system’s total offerings.
And besides, it’s not like Breath of the Wild is this great big social gaming affair, right? So not everything on the system is going to have to be. VR could fit in that space wonderfully. Or heck! If you can pair up to 8 Switch (Switches? What’s the plural here?) then why not do 8 player splatoon without being able to tell what faces your friends are making at you? :-)
Now, if they try to make it front and center of the Switch experience, yeah, that might not go so well. If they make having VR essential to having Switch, and have any more than just the ultra-rarest of VR exclusives, then yeah, that’s bad! Or on the other hand, if this thing is more akin to Google Cardboard than it is to Oculus, or even just PSVR, then it’ll probably just be one great big insulting joke, and nothing more. But otherwise, I can only see this being great! Just even more value for this quirky little “portasoleblet” that looks poised to be the most utterly paradigmatic game platform this millennium.
I say bring it on! :-)
Cheers!
Unless they can give me VR on par with the others for less than 300 bucks, no thanks!
