Nintendo Struggling With ‘Super Mario Odyssey’ Trademark, ‘Eternal Darkness’ And Other Applications Accepted

On February 01, 2017, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued an office action suspending further action on Nintendo’s trademark application for Super Mario Odyssey. There seems to be some hassles with the trademark because it’s clashing with a prior-filled application for Super Mario Run which falls under a smiliar filing. It’s highly unlikely that this situation will result in any delays for the Nintendo Switch title but it’s ultimately down to Nintendo to get this Trademark sorted to ensure no hiccups before release.

It’s worth noting that a few weeks ago the Trademarks for the following titles and their applications were accepted:

  • Arms
  • Eternal Darkness
  • Excite Truck
  • Snipperclips

You can read the full letter which explains the suspension here.

    1. Wait, what?
      “It’s highly unlikely that this situation will result in any delays for the Nintendo Switch title”
      The article specifially states that it’s very unlikely for this problem to cause any release issues. Not to mention that it’s more than half a year before the game’s earliest possible release – plenty of time to resolve any issues like that.

  1. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

    We have created such powerful copyright security that we somehow managed to trip over our own trademark. Were such heights even possible?

  2. That’s so dumb. They have plenty of time to fix it before release tho, so I’m not worried. Probably just some undercover Xbots who are angry at Nintendo for being too amazing;)

      1. That’s one of the reasons I don’t like the name, because I can’t help but think of Odysseus every time I see it. I don’t know, I just don’t like it for some reason. The game looks amazing, just the name is not doing it for me…

    1. plus they can’t trademark oddessy anyway there’s hundreds of games with that word in it’s title so stop being so high and mighty nintendo.

  3. Am i the only one with a deep down feeling that Eternal Darkness is an HD remake??
    I mean, they been acting like game cube emulation is not coming.. which leads me to believe that this could be an HD remake, which would be an awesome idea in it of it’s self.

    1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

      To simply emulate certain GameCube games would not do some of those games justice. Some deserve HD remasters with updated graphics, like Eternal Darkness! *crosses fingers for Eternal Darkness HD Remake*

  4. Here’s a few names off the top of my head Take note Nintendo !

    Super Mario Atlas

    Super Mario Other World

    Super Mario Conquest

    Super Mario Switch

    and finally my favorite

    Super Mario Universe

  5. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

    That issue sounds incredibly fucking stupid.
