The launch for the Nintendo Switch is just on the horizon and many publications are being gifted with some quality time to try it out for themselves. Not long ago a Spanish media outlet seemed to of uncovered an intriguing feature of the Joy-Con; they may be able to charge the Switch by giving up their own ‘power’. Read the translation below:
One of the things that most called our attention was knowing that the console in handheld mode, along with the Joy-Con will have mutual feedback.
What does this mean? Well, when we play with the Nintendo switch in handheld mode with the Joy-Con, these can charge the console and viceversa. This will happen when some of those parts have low battery, this way we will be able to play some extra time. For example, if the battery of the console is at 10% and the joycons are at 100%, these will charge the console.
Nintendo are renowned for drip-feeding information to its consumers so it may be a case of reading through the manual in the Nintendo Switch box to see if this is actually a feature. Either way, USB-C is used for standard charging and there’s always the Dock that comes packed in…

So then you could take along a second pair of fully charged joy-cons as a kind of back-up battery? That’s cool.
Oh. You see that’s what I want to see, if it can charge to the tablet while you connect both joy cons.
This sounds good if true but we also have to keep in mind the joycons most likely have drastically smaller batteries so, if true, it’s only a game changer if they can charge the switch a decent amount. In either case a portable battery is the best bet and many of them are really small and lightweight so it’s mostly a non-issue. Hopefully it’s true
well, they have a 500mah battery or something like that and the switch has a 4310mah battery

That actually sounds pretty freaking cool. But sounds way too good to be true.
That’d make buying an extra set of joycons more worth it. It’s like getting extra controllers and battery pack in 1.
I’d use extra joycons to charge while using in tabletop mode.
Hm… So praising 20 hours won’t matter if you are gonna be using the Switch as both a home console & portable on a regular basis & balance. Looks like me complaining about no charging grip that comes bundled with the Switch wasn’t such a dumb thing to bitch about after all. *waits for new excuses for the defense force to come up with*
Of course, this is just a rumor but it’s bad if true. Looks like I really WON’T be using my Switch as a portable for awhile after launch.
Well think of it this way- if the Joy-Cons CAN charge the system while attached by sacrificing their own battery power, wouldn’t that be better than carrying around a dead Switch with controllers that still have a good 13 hours of charge in them and nothing to use it on?
Not really, the Joycons having 13 hours of battery doesn’t mean they could give the Switch an extra 13 hours of that charge, that’s not how it works. They can last a lot longer because they don’t have to do nearly as much as the Switch has to, meaning those 13 hours would translate to something like 10 minutes on the switch as far as we know. (And by the way, the rumor was confirmed fake by the source)

But I’ll need that 13 hours of battery life when I get home so I can play on my big ass television while still using the awesome Joy-Cons! D:
So it’s been updated now and they are saying that it was a misunderstanding made during the presentation, Nintendo reached out to them and told them that only the Switch itself charges the Joy-Cons but not the other way around.
Cool if true for sure but most likely as an adult I will have charging capabilities when I play it at work whoo hoo!
Doesn’t matter at this point because we officially know that the Switch will have a battery life of between 2.5 and 6 hours. That includes any potential power saving tricks!
Joy-Cons battery is miserable, it wouldn’t improve console’s battery time. That’s it 3-6 hours.
