Project CARS 2 Developer On Title Coming To Nintendo Switch: “I Just Don’t Think It’s Possible”

Project CARS was once slated for a Wii U release but ultimately the lack of graphical prowess of the console meant that it eventually got cancelled –  much to many fans’ dismay. Redbull recently got to sit down with the Creative Director of Project CARS 2, Andy Tudor, who expressed his love for the Wii U and explained a little (if not slightly ambiguously) about the games’ chances of coming over to Nintendo Switch:

Originally Project CARS had a Wii U version announced that didn’t quite work out, but do you guys have any plans for Nintendo Switch?

“I think the Wii U thing is very similar to the PSVR thing, and that’s why I don’t want to get people’s hopes as much. With the Wii U version, the actual machine was brilliant, I play on it with my kids all the time, but technically, getting the game to a state where it matches our standards was extremely challenging. In the end it was something we weren’t happy with, releasing a version that was substandard to what the eventual title ending up being, which was critically acclaimed (it did extremely well), and it may not have been if we pursued the Wii U version further, so we decided to ultimately stop production on that.

In terms of Nintendo Switch, I can say probably that Project CARS franchise will not be coming to Nintendo Switch currently.”

That’s a shame, it would be cool to take it on the go.

“Similar to the Wii U, it looks amazing. I’ve held it in my hands, and the concept of taking it on the go, yeah, I totally agree: we’re all gadget freaks, so we kind of want to, but equally I just don’t think it’s going to be possible.”

  1. hhmmmmmmmmmmmmm okkkaayyyyy

    the developer that didnt touch a wiiu dev kit that stole money claiming to be making a wiiu game that NEVER EXISTED in the first darn place that found out SHOCKINLY 905 into a dev cycle on wiu they couldnt get a game THAT DIDNT EXIST running on wiiu

    lol these turd partys

    shin’in gets a racer running at 1080p 4player split screen and there 5 dudes just banging out games no problem

    i love the HORSE SHIT THESE CRETINS COME UP WITH

    1. The fact that Shin’in can get a game with amazing graphics running in 1080p, 60fps with up to 4 players split screen goes to show why these guys are talking out of their arses.

      I think people who wanted the Wii U version need to start filing lawsuits against these feckers, teach them a lesson to mess with gamers.

      1. He’s talking about Fast RMX for the Switch which is confirmed by Shin’en to be native 1080p 60fps even in multiplayer mode like Bio-Orc said

  2. So Project CARS isn’t coming to the Switch… despite the fact that it’s pretty much close to Xbox One in power… so by their dumb logic the Xbox One shouldn’t be able to play it- Oh wait, it fecking DOES!

    I purchased this game on PC and it’s great… but feck me, this is one lame ass accuse.
    So they don’t want to take the time to port a game to a console that actually has software to help port the game onto it. These guys are fecking worse than Double Fine, which is bad enough with their horrible SJW Leader. I’m not buying Project CARS 2 out of protest, because I will no longer support these assholes..

    I hope this comes to bite them in the arse one day.

  3. Uh every developer is practically praising the Nintendo Switch as the EASIEST PLATFORM TO DEVELOP FOR.

    Crap developer here. It’s not possible ‘cuz you aren’t giving the effort.

    1. Yeah, that explains why the Switch is getting Skyrim Special Edition, Steep, Dragon Quest X, Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2 and not to mention the hundreds of games currently in development like Yooka-Laylee, Snake Pass, Fifa 2018, NB2K18, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Sonic Mania, Sonic 2017 and many more….
      Oh did I mention the recent rumours now suggesting a Rockstar game being ported to Switch with updated graphics as well being shown off at E3 2017? Yeah, that’s also a thing to look at…

      So please, tell me how the Switch is like the Wii U?

            1. Yet it’s still a Zelda game at launch and it selling better when it comes to the Wii U version.
              Also, New Super Mario Bros isn’t a an exclusive either as it’s coming to the Nvidia Shield in China, but no doubt they’ll release it over here as well.

            2. You do realise that Twilight Princess was one of the key reasons the Wii had a relatively strong launch in terms of sales, despite being a cross-generational release? Hardly anyone owns a Wii U – the ratio of copies of BotW sold on Switch compared to those sold on Wii U will likely be at least 4:1. And I say this as a proud Wii U owner still playing the console to this day. Again, BotW is the Switch’s initial killer app – it’s going to sell a ton of Switches, but not many (if any) Wii Us. Just because you don’t personally value it as a launch title doesn’t mean you get to change the definition of a pretty self-explanatory term.

              1. TP is not the reason Wii sold big. It may have contributed to initial sales, but hardly for overall total. And it was a drastic change, the Switch is everything the U should have been.

                1. Please engage your brain. Any monkey and their grandmother knows that the Wii phenomenon was not directly caused by a Zelda launch title. That’s not what I wrote, nor what I implied: “You do realise that Twilight Princess was one of the key reasons the Wii had a relatively strong launch in terms of sales?”. We’re talking about the LAUNCH PERIOD and LINEUP. TP helped Wii have a much stronger launch then it otherwise would have, thus providing it with a relatively solid foundation in terms of sales and reception and subsequently helping to pave the way (along with many other things) for the massive golden period the console would enjoy. Similarly, BotW will provide/has provided the Switch with good initial preorder sales, which may or may not work with other factors to help the Switch in the long term.

                  1. I know what you said and I disagree as TP has a divided fan base. Also no one saw the growth of Wii until a year later, initial demand can be controlled by low supply.

                    1. Dear lord this is like talking to a brick wall. Whether TP proved divisive amongst series fans or not has nothing to do with this conversation. It’s my least favourite 3D Zelda, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s also the best selling Zelda game and what sold many people both on the series and the Wii. I also have no idea what your next sentence means: “no one saw the growth… until a year later”? What? The boom came several years into Wii’s lifespan, whether anyone predicted it or not is neither here nor there. The fact that TP helped provide a solid sales foundation is important in terms of market perception – if the Wii had sold poorly upon release then it would likely have struggled more down the line. Demand and actual physical sales are different things, and we weren’t discussing initial demand for the Switch. Sweet Lord…

                      1. We were discussing initial demand, because the topic at hand is release lineup specifically 1 Zelda title vs NSMBU and third party support for release.

                        You started pulling useless Zelda data when I was talking about complete launch lineup

          1. … HAHAHA! Oh you must be joking… the Wii U barely had any good games to begin with XD

            Switch has fecking Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a launch title… What did the Wii U have? New Super Mario Bros U… yeah, you need to try harder mate.

            1. That’s your personal opinion.
              I can play BoTW on my U, so it’s not exclusive to it.
              It had third party support, something that isn’t readily available on the Switch.

                1. The only thing I’ll miss out on is Bomberman, and since I didn’t play it much as a kid it’s not worth it. At least I’ll get to play way more third party titles on a competing system, though the ones you mentioned don’t interest me.

        1. Oh yeah Skyrim. Something that has been out for 4 years, that’s real third party support right there. Why no fallout 4? Because this thing won’t be powerful enough that’s why.

          So I will give you Dragon Quest XI and EA sports games, but porting old games like World of Goo just shows how pathetic this launch is. Can you not see they are making the same mistakes they always make? Zelda was clearly developed for the Wii U so even their first rate launch title isn’t really a game that will take advantage of the new hardware very much. Don’t worry Minecraft and Stardew Valley are coming to the rescue for the 10 people who haven’t already played them.

          You are going to see quotes like these a lot more.

          CEO Randy Pitchford noted, when asked about a Switch port on Borderlands 3, “I do not see that as happening. We were talking to Nintendo, but that stopped for some reason. They have other priorities.”

    2. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||Their fate was decided long ago, they will meet it where THQs and Atarians are currently at, Nowhere…||

    3. I don’t really play realistic racing games besides Gran Turismo, however I find shit like this incredibly frustrating;

      “I just don’t think it’s possible”

      Or rather “I can’t be arsed to try”. Where the hell is his passion for games? What a pathetic excuse, his attitude stinks. The fact that he is quite blasé about not even considering the notion of putting it on the Switch makes him come across as arrogant.

      Maybe I’m reading too much into it but he comes across as someone who entered the industry for the money rather than the games, which is completely the wrong way round.

      1. Listen Brah, While I agree that this developer should have at least investigated whether the switch could run Project Cars or PC2, you cant be mad at them for getting into the industry for the money my doode. THEY ARE A BUSINESS, NOT CONSUMERS. No one gets into an industry to have fun, they get into it for the money bro-bro. Thats what businesses exist to do. Make money. Do little kids set up lemonade stands because they love lemonade, or because they want to make some money my guy? Probably both, but you get the point. This developer never even tried to put Project Cars on the Wii U, they are liars, and for that we have every right to be pissed. But dont be mad at them for wanting to be successful hombre. Nintendo, is in it for the money. All your favorite companies are. This dev is no different guy! They doubt that the Switch is going to be a hit, and they are playing it safe. Big deal! WHO NEEDS EM? Fuckem thats what I say brah.

    4. Think it’s safe to say nobody cares.
      The first game was forgotten faster than no mans sky, and it too was hyped like second coming.

    5. I mean, ok? The first one wasn’t much more than a graphics demo and is already a bargain bin game. It’s definitely possible for it to come to the Switch though, he’s just an asshole.

    6. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

      What was Project Cards again? :O /s Yeah. Don’t care. I have a PS4 & I still could give a rat’s ass. xD

      1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

        Damn it!

        & I still couldn’t give a rat’s ass!* Fixed. I think I always typo that damn phrase with could instead of couldn’t. Oh well.

    7. So… what happens to the money of the backers for the Wii U? If the first one isn’t even coming for the Switch… what now? Make no mistake… I am no backer… but am wondering what happens to the money of those who did? 🤔

    8. At least they’re being more honest this time. Remember when they were like “Developing for the Wii U is going great! ( ^ ▽^)”. Months later “Sorry, folks, can’t get it done after all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”. lmao seriously, as much as Nintendo needs third party, they’ve lost the trust of people already to not care.
