Shigeru Miyamoto Says Link’s Full Name Is “Link Link”

Akin to how Mario’s last name is the same as his first, Link’s full name is “Link Link.” That’s according to series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who mentions how Link isn’t human as a reason to justify the unconventional last name. You can check out his explanation in the video interview below. Link stars in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is scheduled to launch on March 3 for both Nintendo Switch and Wii U.

      1. I don’t get why people are taking it seriously. It’s not like they officially announced his name. They were having fun and joking around. Also, the interview is fabulous and hilarious.

        1. The article doesn’t indicate that they were joking. And I’m guessing a lot of people just read the article. I did that at first. But then I got a few minutes to actually watch the video and saw that it was actually a joke. Probably should have been made more clear in the headline/article.

          1. Ooooooh, all this misconception makes a lot more sense. Yeah, it’s very clear in the video that they are joking around, definitely should’ve been included in the title. Funny stuff, very enjoyable to watch.

    1. I’d like to believe it was an accident that you didnt clarify the context of this statement, but I think you did it for the clicks. At first I was mad at Miyamoto for saying this, because it really underminds the seriousness of the franchise, then I read the comments and people are saying its a joke… well thanks for getting me pissed off for nothing Alba.

    2. Alba, maybe I need to make it clear that the name “Link Link”, was merely a jest.
      The Creator Miyamoto said “It’s the same as Mario’s”, and The Creator Miyamoto has stated several times that Mario’s name is not actually “Mario Mario”. And neither is Luigi’s name “Luigi Mario”…

      “‘Tis but a joke”, crudely put.

  1. So that’s what her name is. Now I would like to know what zelda’s full name is I mean he has had many games and we still haven’t found out.

      1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

        Pretty sure he was joking. Relax. lol

  2. Please tell me the person who reported this realises that the majority of that interview was intended as humorous and not meant to be taken seriously, right? Sweet Jesus…

    1. I think they wrote this so we all could discuss it in the comment field. They already written this news in the 51 sum-up thing. They probably saw how enthusiastic everybody got about it so they made a dedicated articles for views and Fandom Rage.

  3. First off, Link doesn’t even come from a universe where characters have last names.

    He’s obviously trolling us now. I guess that SMB3 stage play nonsense and him being Bowser Jr.’s mother is officially crock.

      King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule & the few kings also with the last name Hyrule from Minish Cap want a word with you.

    1. No because it is Samus Aran, she has a full name , if she was going to have a middle name it would be Virginia after her mother :)

    2. Nope she has a full name Samus Aran, if she were to have a middle name is like to think it would be Virginia after her mother :)

  4. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

    As long as this remains a freaking joke, I’m good. But if he EVER decides to be serious & actually try that shit, I’ll flip! D:<

  5. Hey listen MyNintendoNews. This video from Game Informer was delightful. The amount of joviality expressed from these two and the lightheartedness of their answers was something we don’t see often from Nintendo. Likely because they are afraid gaming news will get the wrong idea. That, and they hold their franchises to a very high set of standards. If we want to see more of this side of Nintendo you can’t post misleading headlines about such things. However, if you must, at least refer to the fact that they were joking in the body of your article. A turn of phrase comes to mind, “This is why we can’t have nice things.”

      She’s part of the Hyrule Royal Family so her last name would end up being Hyrule.

  6. It’s a Joke. Mario is NOT officially “Mario Mario”. That was made up for the movie to explain why Mario and Luigi were called the ‘Mario Brothers’.

    I’m pretty sure what he originally meant was “Like Mario, Link has no last name”. However, because he is also well aware of the “Mario Mario” Joke, he said “Link Link” in jest.

    It is embarassing how many ‘Journalists’ and countless individuals across the internet don’t know SARCASM when they hear it.

    Here is a hint. When someone laughs after saying something, it’s probably a Joke, not meant to be taken seriously.

    1. As I wrote over. They probably did this on purpose for the commentfield activity and views. They’re probably fully aware of everything. But I won’t defend it. It’s lame to try making this facts without explaining it’s probably a joke.
