Nintendo Doesn’t Rule Out Phone App And Nintendo Switch Link-Up Opportunities

There’s no denying that the spotlight has grown even larger for Nintendo since they announced their partnership with DeNA and their commitment to bring Nintendo IP to smartphones. In an interview with The Telegraph, Shinya Takahashi, a major individual in the Nintendo Switch‘s development, mentioned that App and Nintendo Switch software link-up wouldn’t be out of the question:

The Telegraph: “Nintendo has seen some real success with smartphone games, Can we expect to see a link-up between mobile games and Switch games. For example if I complete a task in Super Mario Run, could I unlock a bonus in Super Mario Odyssey, and similar kind of things?”

Takahashi: “I don’t have any concrete examples we might do along those lines, but it’s certainly not an impossibility! But what I can say is that I do feel software design for mobile is in essence different for something that would be designed for Switch. So as we release different games on different platforms and think about how there can be a connection between the two, we really have to think about how each of those individual pieces of software stand on their own and have their own purpose and merit to being on each of those platforms.

So then if we are able to find a way to satisfy the users that are playing on those platforms by some sort of connection between the two, then that would be the point we would introduce something like that.”

  1. I want some stuff like when I’m playing Fire Emblem Warriors on the Switch and link it up to my nintendo account i get a message that says “hey i see you’ve played Fire Emblem Heroes, here’s an alt costume for such and such character.” Or you’ve played FEW here’s 10 orbs for FEH. That would be cool.

  2. I liked that GB could connect to N64 and GBA to GC, some games used those features well but I won’t buy a switch if it does this with a smartphone. Everyone getting a switch probably has a 3DS so why not 3DS connectivity? I was really disappointed the feature wasn’t used in Wii U and Wii didn’t make good use of it.
    Its like Nintendo is forgetting about brand loyalty to their own gaming devices and enforcing brand loyalty on non gaming devices that Nintendo doesn’t even make.

  3. This article is embarrassingly misinformed how do you guys not know this already? You’re supposed to be a Nintendo news site lol. Not only is it not out of the question, but it’s already been confirmed. On NIntendo’s own website. Where it says there will be a dedicated switch app for managing game information on the go. Wow. Go here and read all about it: http://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/

  4. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

    As long as nothing exclusive like an outfit you can only get in Animal Crossing Switch by playing the stupid phone game is done, I’m fine with this idea.
