The NES Mini has certainly been a hit with fans and retro gaming enthusiasts but it has certainly been hard to get hold of. NeoGAF member Roarer works for a large Scandinavian retailer and has heard from Nintendo and their distributor Bergsala that the system is no longer being produced and will be phased out by the Kyoto based company. Roarer says that whilst production has ended they will still be getting a few more shipments. The last shipment should arrive in April or May and then that’s it. Good luck getting hold of one if you haven’t managed to do so yet.
We just got word from Nintendo (or rather, their Nordic distributor Bergsala) that the NES Classic Mini has reached its end of life and will be phased out. According to them production has ended and we will be receiving a few more shipments before everything dries up.
By our estimates, we (as a single retailer) might not be able to fulfill all orders that have been placed so far. Our last shipment should arrive in April or May, and after that there won’t be any more shipments.
Hmm, I doubt it.
Another awkward decision from Nintendo. They’ve been lining awkward decisions for quite a long time now.
Why discontinuing something that sells like hot cakes? Is it because hackers have shown they’re able to add games and install emulators on it? Nintendo’s long time and paranoiac fear of piracy? Smells like it a lot.
Pinch me please, it feels like this is an April Fool’s joke.
It most likely is. Most of these dumb rumors as false. Especially considering they’ve been restocking them in multiple places.
I was thinking the same. But there’s already every important Nintendo game on the system and you pay for them. Why would Nintendo care when you pirate some 3rd party titles? And being able to install more games than 30 is the only reason I will eventually buy a NES mini. In this case: Piracy = more cash for Nintendo!
>Investors meeting: We are making more NES Mini
>Random nobody on the internet:No they are not, they are cancelling it!!1
man, who to believe :/
Nintendo said they were also selling a ton of Wii U switches at 100%, 350% and than 450%. That was Reggie spitting percent to investors in a meeting. He said the Wii U was going to do 9 million in one year to investors. Rumors at that time hit that Nintendo was slowly cutting production in favor of a new system. It was true.
Point being is that, I don’t believe anything Nintendo says anymore. This doesn’t sound true, but saying it isn’t true with 100% is like believing Nintendo is actually shipping my NES systems, because they really haven’t yet.
I would hope not. Or mine just became a whole lot more rare
They are just keeping them for themselves and selling on ebay for 250$
Because I live in Sweden I actually sent Bergsala an email during the weekend when people started reporting this. The answer is got was something similar. Basically they said: “We’re making a few more shipments but from what we understand most of these consoles are booked. With luck you might be able to find one at a retailer that doesn’t do pre-orders”.
So it looks like they’re indeed starting to cut down production. Which is strange since all the evidence from what I’ve read before this weekend pointed to them increasing production.
||Or this is simply concentrated to certain areas like Sweden, since Sweden is an Xbot zealot territory…||
so your insulting yourself huh? well glad to know the truths out but your choice mr roleplayer
||You don’t even make any sense human…||
You’re human yourself you delusional idiot, your’re roleplaying a character (a bunch of ones and zeroes aka NOT a real entity!
||It’s ausing how low you humans fall, it wasn’t long ago you stood by my side against the imbecile known as Michael Ponder Jr, now you have become the very same primitive like him, no wonder you humans elect primitive primate like Trump as leaders or any other disgusting primate…||
give it up roleplayer, you’re a living breathing human! yes your vocal effects for the character are impressive don’t get me wrong but you’re taking this persona of yours way out of control. and you spelt amusing wrong you said ausing it’s spelt “amusing” try picking up a dictionary sometime, lot’s of them come at your skill level.
||Take your own advice first human, even more so regarding basic grammatical skills, I have glitches because of the FF-Virus, it’s not misspelling…||
||Second, you seem to suffer from this “role-player” disease you keep mentioning, whatever that is…||
||Third, my logic is undeniable…||
Melfice is my gamer name i use online. I don’t roleplay myself i used to, but what makes us different is I actually know when enough is enough, while you on the other hand do not! You just stick to your Metroid boss persona who is not real he’s a creation. Ok you like the franchise good for you but your view on thinking your a boss character that Samus kills by the way is very silly and please remember you are a human not a bunch of 1 and 0s or a pc programme with a virus. But a living, breathing Human being!
||And as a bonus, a racist human like yourself shouldn’t even bother to comment at all, or I’ll get you banned effective immediately the next time I see anything racist against anything because Nintendo doesn’t tolerate primitive cerebros…||
Racist? Just stop going over the top as a roleplayer is all i ask.
Yes that is strange if its true. I remember seeing a video with a Bergsala rep, and he said that the NES mini will not be a limited production but Nintendo will continue to produce it. And also strange considering the amount of demand for it right now
Well, they need to make money “à la carte” on the Switch’s eShop. They will charge 6-7 bucks per NES games you already got on the Wii, then rebought for the 3DS, then rebought again for the Wii U.
This is WAY more lucrative to them, as there is no additional hardware to produce and manage. And on top of that, there is DRM so (virtually) no piracy.
They’re sometimes are treating us as cash cows. Don’t get me wrong: not that I cannot afford it, it’s just that having to pay again and again to get my retro library to new consoles makes no sense. It’s 2017, Nintendo!
I also have many versions of VC games that I even have hard copies of. The great thing about the NES Classic is the ease of use. I have an extra long hdmi and extra long charger so I guess that helps… but the emulator is so polished and the save slots, album art, speed, portability, soft modability and the use of Wii classic remotes makes this system a must have.
@powerizer85 I don’t know what’s worse hacked nes consoles or money hungry idiots who charge people 2 or 3 times what the consoles worth. Nintendo needs to put out a huge shipping of these NES Consoles so people can buy them instead of short changing the public !
Try to put some sense into their heads, you are likely to meet disappointment.
I love Nintendo. I love them fiercely. But they’re constantly acting dumb.
They’re like Ralph Wiggum to me.
“My cat’s breath smells like cat food”
NES Mini production is ending?
…did production ever begin?
:P
This better be a FALSE rumor. I’ve been waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more to find one in stores. Why the hell hasn’t Nintendo shipped more of these to all stores by now? What are they waiting for, Hell to freeze over? There’s no more excuses now. GET THESE TO STORES, NINTENDO!
||Take into consideration that this rumour-sayer only mentions Bergsala, which is my HQ only…||
Are we really taking this from a user on Neogaf that says “I work at x?”
Might as well say he has an uncle at Nintendo.

Fake… All my friend are ready to spend their Money on that things and can’t find one. There is so much money to be made here. Nintendo won’t stop peoducing them.
Screw that and the stupid prices on Amazon and eBay. I’ll stick with my homebrewed Wii and not worry about it.
There’s no way – Nintendo is not *that* unbelievably stupid. I have yet to even see one here in the US
Am I the only person who’s never seen one of these in person yet? Like I did with the PS Vita, I refuse to believe that they’re sold in the UK until I see a box for one.
Pingback: Nintendo terminata la produzione del NES Classic Mini?
Just splurged for one on Ebay for $115. NES + Switch = no more money
Us: Shut up and take our money.
Nintendo: Ick money. Yucky. We’re allergic you fools.
End of life cycle? Wasn’t this less than 6 months? Unless they’re making a version 2.0 that you can download more games for.
HMMM. Just can’t see this as possible. It’s every business’s dream. Demand far outpacing supply.
Alternatively invest in a RetroPi in a SNES case and have much more choice.

This Neogaf rumor is untrue, and here’s why:
“We apologize to our consumers and retail partners for the inconvenience caused by product shortages. Some parts require time to procure, but we are working to increase production.”
This comes from Nintendo’s Q3 Report at the beginning of February. I’ll repeat that. “We are working to increase production.” The fact that this supposed “retail employee” is saying exactly the opposite of this shows they didn’t bother to do their research.
You cant end production on something if it never was in production.
