Twitch Plays Pokémon Celebrates Its Third Anniversary With A Special Stream

It’s hard to believe that Twitch Plays Pokémon started three years ago. The innovative Twitch stream exploded in popularity after it was discovered by fans. However, Twitch Plays Pokémon is still finding new ways to innovate. The latest experiment involves a hacked version of Pokémon Yellow where the viewer literally controls the game’s dialogue. Instead of a Pikachu, the player is joined by a loudmouth Chatot who spouts messages from the chat. It’s certainly a sight to behold. Check out the stream here.

  1. What made the first couple games fun was how chaotic the gameplay were with thousands of people inputting commands. Once the regular viewership sunk below 1k, it was kinda boring. The magic really dwindled for me when they hit Gen 4. I think it was the feel of the older games being brought back to the forefront for a lot of the fandom that really got me hyped.

That said, I still praise Lord Helix every single day of the year.
