Koizumi On GameCube Virtual Console: “We Are Working On Some Things Along Those Lines”

We know very little about the Virtual Console service on the Nintendo Switch. It’s obviously coming but Nintendo is not entirely ready to talk about it yet. One of the persistent rumours is that we are getting GameCube games on the platform. Yoshiaki Koizumi from Nintendo basically confirmed this in a recent interview with French publication Melty. He wouldn’t give a straight answer, but he did say that they’re working on something along those lines.

“We cannot give a concrete answer, because we have nothing to announce at the moment. But there’s something I can tell you: we are working on some things along those lines.”

  1. With the flexibility of the Switch platform, it’d be fascinating if Nintendo released a wireless GameCube controller for the Switch with analog triggers and some well-done Virtual Console ports. We can dream.

        1. …it’s not the right thing to do, morality applies to other human beings not corporations…
          …multi billion dollar business empires are not entitled to, nor do they deserve your kindnesses…

  2. If the Joy-Con shoulder buttons are still digital and not analogue like Cube controllers’, I’m not sure how they’re going to do it. Games like F-Zero GX, Mario Sunshine, and Luigi’s Mansion come to mind when I remember what games extensively used analogue shoulder buttons.

    1. I’d like to add Eternal Darkness to that order. And Rogue Leader.
      And PN03!
      Oh and Double Dash! Ugh. I’ll just keep my Gamecube.

        1. Yeah…it was a tough decision. Keep my Wii, or Keep my game cube and transfer my Wii to my WiiU. I went with the later, kept my GC and transferred my Wii to my WiiU.

          I hope my GC never breaks!! (none of my Nintendo consoles have so far! Except for a dozen 3DS screen replacements!)

    1. Ugh… Hold on, gotta speak the dialect… Argh, me matey! Why ye pirates be so enamoured with ye old Smash games? Smash Wii U seemed to me to be far superior to previous games. I thinks it be high time ye abandoned that sinking ship. She be headin’ to Davey Jones!

      1. Melee is easily the best smash game ever. No question. And you don’t have to be a pirate to play gamecube games on your computer. It’s easy enough to just rip the ISOs from the actual game discs.

        1. Mr. Giraffe… I will not argue your love for Melee. I just don’t understand the reasons why people like it so much more than later games. I highly doubt more than .00001% of anyone in the world legally rips games from genuine GC discs that they own.

      1. It’s not just blind nostalgia. I know plenty of people that never played Melee until Sm4sh came out and still prefer it. Melee is just a better game. Sure, it doesn’t have nearly as much content, and it’s “not as pretty” as Sm4sh, but the game just has a more enjoyable pace. And when you add in the fact that the skill ceiling is incredibly high while retaining a very low barrier to entry, it should be easy to see why this game continues to be so popular.

    1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

      That’s actually a good question! I’m actually wondering that myself now.

    HD remakes for games like Eternal Darkness, Super Mario Sunshine, & the Baten Kaitos games would be more welcome than VC games. I’d gladly pay 60 bucks for those games if they are updated with new content & better models.
