Nintendo eShop Purchases Will Be Linked To Your Account Not Just Your Console According To Nintendo Switch UI

Nintendo fans have longed for a system where if you purchase a game on the eShop then it’ll appear on your Nintendo account and not just the console it is downloaded on. Thankfully, due to the recent unboxing video of the Nintendo Switch, an eagle-eyed viewer has spotted some interesting information which confirms that the dream is now about to become a reality.

It reads:

Your Nintendo Account contains your Nintendo eShop purchase history and current balance. By re-linking your Nintendo Account after initializing the console, it will be possible to redownload any software or DLC purchased using that account. (Software that has been discontinued may not be available to redownload in some cases.)

It’s still unconfirmed as to whether Virtual Console titles will be included but we can only hope.

        1. Joy cons are just wii motes, nobody wants to control games with motion control and its been like that for 10 years now.

          Games on flash cards have been around for years…

          Its a portable console with a “super gameboy dock”

          Gyro is retarded for controlling games, maybe mario kart is ok I guess.

          Their touch screen isnt even oled. It’s so old..

          HD rumble adds nothing to real gamers

          This sytem is about as cutting edge as the ouya

            1. Right now i’m getting it for Zelda, MK8 Battlemode, Mario.O and ill probably pick up Bomberman sometime but I did cancel my pre order of it. I’ve finished Skyrim completely so I wont get that.

          1. I don’t much care for many of the things you listed, but I gotta disagree with gyro controls. They have been such a welcome edition to Zelda games for aiming e.g. the hookshot, bow, etc.

            1. Well at least somebody likes them. I cant stand them for anything other then Mario Kart and Wii sports , didn’t think of that last one until now. I went to buy Splatoon around launch but before I did I demoed it at best buy and it used Gyro to aim and I turned around and walked out of the store. I didn’t know that you could disable gyro controls at the time. I heard you couldn’t disable Gyro with Starfox so I didn’t pick up that title either.

            1. You’re in the minority then. Which console’s do you own? Also, Do you like motion controls and rumble so much that you would rather Nintendo put the cost into those instead of providing a system that is up to date spec wise?

              1. If it allows them to make good titles that utilize them, then yes. Nintendo have a vision for their games around their hardware and they’re usually good. I’m a retro collector with pretty much everything from the 4th gen on except Sony stuff (Sega, Microsoft, Nintendo). I like motion controls, gyro aiming, and am intrigued by the HD rumble. It doesn’t make one any less of a gamer to feel that way. Also, I really, really don’t care that their consoles aren’t as powerful as their competitors’. If I wanted three of the same consoles, then sure, that’d be nice. I want Nintendo for their exclusives and I’ll get multiplats elsewhere. Even if they come to Switch, I’d probably get them elsewhere because they will be more definitive.

          2. I am excited about the Switch because it’s the handheld I’ve always wanted. I don’t care about the other features….though I wish it had better battery life.

            1. That would have been good. Alot of people wish that. Although, I wont be using it at all on the go so the battery life doesn’t bother me much. They should have had mic jacks on the joycon grip and the pro controller though. I’m not sure if you can even Xgame chat with this phone app they are forcing you to use.

            2. Battery life is 2.5 – 6.5 hours. It’s pretty standard for a handheld. Sony claimed the PS Vita Slim was up to 6 hours of playtime, while Nintendo listed the New 3DS XL as 3.5 – 7 hours. There really is no difference, considering the games on Switch will be bigger and significantly more visually demanding.

  1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

    If this means my shit won’t be fucking console locked, yay! It’s about god damn fucking time! Welcome to cloud gaming, Nintendo!

      1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

        I started cussing at around the age of 9 or 10. Like smoking, it’s become an addiction! xD

      2. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

        Of course, I can hold back when I’m in a place that would highly frown on it like Miiverse or church.

  2. On the Wii U they WERE linked to your account.

    I don’t understand why people still don’t get this. If you can see games you bought for the Wii U in your purchase history on the 3DS, then it IS linked with your account. The problem was that your account could only be linked to one console and one handheld at a time and you had to call Nintendo to move your account to a different console or handheld.

  3. About freaking time. After learning the hard way with my Wii, spending hundreds of dollars on digital downloads and then not being able to redownload them on another system, I stopped supporting Nintendo downloads. Only games I would get on Nintendo systems were physical. If it’s true that you can re-download your games on another system with your account, this is the best thing Nintendo could have done in ages; everyone else has been doing it.
