GameStop Says They Have Seen Tremendous Demand For Nintendo Switch

Large US video game retailer GameStop have recently commented on the state of Nintendo Switch pre-orders with the company. A List Daily recently caught up with Eric Bright, senior director of merchandising at GameStop who said that the company had seen tremendous demand for the system. Bright also said that they have a long way to go before they can satisfy all the demand that’s currently out there.

“We’ve seen tremendous demand for Switch. And of the initial allocation of pre-orders we took, the majority of them were done by PowerUp Reward customers. They’re definitely looking for this device. We have a ways to go before we satisfy all the demand that’s out there.”

  1. No duh the majority were Rewards memebers when they pretty much forced me to get the basic card when I preordered mine. Either way I’m happy that I got mine. Also a few days ago I saw a mother and son asking how to get the Switch day 1 without a preorder. I think the hybrid concept is going to be a real hook for people. I could tell you right now a console like this would’ve been a dream when I was younger in school. Play with your friends at school then continue at home on the TV? Hell fucking yes!!!

    1. I really think people, older people who consider themselves “serious gamers” or anything more than casual, really are missing this point. Kids drive the market and if they can play games in the back seat that are REAL video games, and that is what they want, then the Switch is going to sell crazy. It will build till the holiday when Mario releases and because of the easy or fast port time, if developers see the Switch selling, they can port games for the holiday no problem.

      1. Yep you’re 100% right IMHO. Kids drive gaming whether ‘real gamers’ like it or not. After all, every ‘real gamer’ was a kid once and most probably played their first game as a child.

        My son turns 7 3 days after the Switch launch and I’ve got one on pre-order for him. He is going to love this like nothing else. I can imagine him having a sleep over and playing the switch in his bedroom to all hours with a friend. I know I would if I was 7 and had a Switch.

        Now I just need to get one for my daughter and ah…….myself.

        Nintendo sending me broke…..again.

  2. It’s not a age thing tbh it’s the let’s play event and word of mouth. If you talk to anyone who has had a opportunity to touch the system everyone is saying that they are impressed and much more positive news. The only ones. Bashing the switch has not touched it and are only looking to troll anyways. There the same ones who’ll call you a fan boy, blind or whatever else. They talk about the controller while the whole time their company they support is looking to still ideas from Nintendo.

    1. Not talking about this particular instance, but fanboys also call people who say anything bad about a company or console trolls. So it goes both ways. Not everyone who likes a company is a fanboy, and not everyone who complains about something is a troll. The hybrid aspect honestly doesn’t matter to some people anywhere as people make it out to be. People are heralding the portability like the second coming of jesus. It’s really not that big a deal. Console players like playing on their big tvs, so the portability aspect will not get used by them as much or be as appreciated. So there are reasons like this why people may complain about the console, and that does not make them a troll.

  3. Great news indeed. I went to Gamestop the other day to preorder more joy-cons and this young couple was interested in getting a Switch but were sold out so they had to get put on a waiting list. The Switch is becoming popular because of Nintendo’s aggressive marketing….something that was missing from the Wii U. Nintendo is certainly putting forth the effort of making a better future for themselves and I hope it works

    1. You’re right, Nintendo are pulling out the big marketing guns for the Switch. Very much like they did with the Wii.

      I feel the Switch is going to benefit from word of mouth and people seeing it in the wild too. A lot like the Wii did when it took off. Fingers crossed.

  5. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

    My GameStop only got around 7 in total for preorders & maybe 5 to be sold in store.
