You may remember that rhythm based title VOEZ was confirmed for the Nintendo Switch in last week’s edition of Famitsu. The music title is available on mobile platforms but many wondered how the game would make the transition to the big screen. Well, it turns out it won’t, as it will be the first Nintendo Switch game that will only be playable in portable-mode only. The game is reliant on the touchscreen so it makes sense, but it makes you wonder what kind of precedent this sets for future Nintendo Switch titles.
Good. 3DS/Vita confirmed dead.
I mean, can the Vita really die… again?
Always Double Tap
Well that’s interesting. Wt I would like to see is a bunch of apps come out for switch like the Vita has with minis. Personally I don’t play cheap games like that but I know a bunch of people are real suckers for that stuff and it would help switch support out imo. And they also need to get all the video streaming apps on there as well which I have no doubt are going to pop up soon after launch
I wonder if app like games would sell Switches.
I don’t think it would honestly but it would definitely be a positive thing for some
This took me a minute 😂
Definitely saw that coming.
Portable mode only? Wait… What? They can do that? Lol. Nice. I guess the Switch really does have a chance at getting Pokemon then.
youre honestly beyond dumb if you think mainline Pokemon games arent coming to the switch
Pokemon company already said they are actually
Why would they block tv mode for a Pokémon game? That doesn’t make sense at all, here they do it because gameplay can’t work outside of a touchscreen, pokémon games work absolutely fine outside of one. (And we know Pokémon IS getting to the Switch, as it’s director has mentioned it twice already)
But if the Switch was not portable, they wouldn’t be interested in putting it on there, would they? The portability is likely the only reason why we’ll see a game on it. It’s not about the touchscreen being required, but how they view the gameplay. Every time they get asked about Pokemon on console, they use the excuse that it’s somehow better suited as a game on the go as a reason not to. That’s why I was thinking they wouldn’t bother with the TV. Honestly, I hope I’m wrong. Because I want it on the TV. It would be amazing.
An interesting thought would be having mario maker levels creatable only in portable mode but playable in any form factor.
Im guessing you could use the motion controlls in the joycon to do this.
Rip bigscreen Pokemon
This game is portable only because it needs the touch screen. There have been many Pokémon that don’t require it.
Touchscreen controls in Pokémon have only been a minor convenience, but there in no way vital to the experience, we’ve had Pokémon games before those were ever in a Nintendo console!
I hope Pokémon Stars isn’t that way (that would kill the hype if it’s portable only game.
But why would it be?
A lot of people would go nuts over a mainline Pokémon game on the tv screen.

the link to VOEZ…
this should also be the reason that this is handheld mode only
I must say, this is great! Because it means that Nintendo doesn’t dictate that games have to work in both modes. This opens up new possibilities for developers!
I hope this is just a rare occurrence. Otherwise, the hybrid aspect could very well be in jeopardy.
